hmmm... I thought the Governator was the worst of this series- completely ridiculous.

Let me refine, the governor was pretty absurd. But the core team america they kept fairly "real" as it were through the experiences.

It's not all that out of the question that people would group up and then turn on eachother as resources became more scarce. It's sort of how we were not that long ago.

His character was written a little over the top, yeah. But you gotta give it a slight pass just as a plot vehicle. I guess I saw it a bit different as I plowed through the govenor stuff in about 2 weeks time. It took you guys what? 2 years?

I marathoned it too until last season.

IMO, the plot vehicles are what makes the show lack transcendence. I really like the soul-searching and glimpses into what makes us human vs animal/zombies that the show gets into... at it's best. usually in the quieter moments, IIRC. I'm also a sucker for the post-apocolyptic "how would I survive and live if those conditions happened to me" kind of thing- so

Do you really think you would survive in these conditions? Your wife would put up a fuss when you had to eat rat instead of 30 minutes or less door to door sashimi and then some fool would stab you for your scarf.

What plotline would tell you this baby is the cure?

Have they had any running water since the farm? (I am assuming the farm had some because of the wells but they never showed a shower being used I don't think).

Watched chunks of a few of the old episodes this past weekend on some marathon thing they were running.

The mid season finale where they shoot up all the walkers in the barn is still one of the single best 5 minutes of any program I have ever watched, movie or TV show. It was like a really long wick on a giant bomb, and BOOM. Then super duper sadness like 5 seconds later. God Shane's character was so fabulous.

The other two I saw were the episode where Rick reunites with his wife/son and Shane, and the episode where they are at the CDC. Both awesome. So different than the episodes now.

Rememer when one walker took em like 10 seconds to kill and it was always super dangerous??

The dialogue and writing is vastly improved since the first 2 seasons. Some of the dialogue was so forced it got to the point where I just pushed through to some of the action sequences that seemed to matter and focused most on the characters that I knew were going to live to Season 5. I may have missed some of the decent shane stuff as I felt it somewhat pointless to watch him as I knew going into it just from hearing people around IRL discuss the show before that he didn't make it long. I knew that the farm season sort of sucked so I maybe only really watched 50% of the non action stuff there.

I mean the upgrade from the writing was most evident in old guy #1 with the winnebago compared to Herschel. Old Guy 1 was just a cardboard cutout of an old dude. By about the point where the Governor turned up it was 10x better. Some of that was death of the more boring characters and actors. But most was writing.

Second half of Season 2 was the best stretch of the series. I'd hate to fast forward through stuff and miss something important.

Fact is two infected people did the nasty and had a baby that did not die so it is at least possible to repopulate to some extent.

Imo, Dale and Andrea were the two worst character changes they made from the comics to the tv show. They were both relatively beloved characters in the comics, but in the tv show they were both detestable.

I wouldn't overthink it.

This show is better if you suspend logic and just take it for what it is. If you start questioning the pandemic and the motives and such, it falls apart pretty quickly.

If you asked me "of all the things in the universe, what is the thing that you can most count on getting worse every year?" I would have answered "the writing on TWD since the end of season 2".

Seriously, they don't even bother trying to make up a believable way for people to get into trouble with walkers anymore. They commonly just have walkers sneak up on people in the middle of the woods. A freaking ninja couldn't sneak up on someone in the middle of the woods but mindless walkers dragging their feet through every twig and rustly leaf imaginable just come out of nowhere.

Are you talking about Tyrese? In the comics he was a very conflicted character but tougher than the TV version. In the comics he dies the death that Herschel got on tv.

Based on their conversation last night I wonder if Steven Yeun and Conan read this thread. They had a lot of fun tearing apart all the over-anxiety that often comes with stuff like the lawns being mowed and gasoline's expiration dates. It was pretty funny.

Yep, they said the security guards didn't look like they had bites. That was a clue to us that something else was going on and Rick spilled the beans when they were on the run from the farm on that road. Everyone was starting to get mad at Rick, including his ##### wife who somehow was mad at him for killing Shane when Shane was going to kill Rick. He said Jenner told him, but he didn't believe it until he saw Shane turn after getting shot and not bit.

ETA: You are correct on the timing. The kid was with them when they saw the security guards, before Shane let him go to kill him.

Season 2 was so great on so many levels. I still think it's the best season of the series to date although the current one is making a strong run at the top.

I've said this a few times in here, but they had a great chance to redeem her after what I thought was her best scene in the show. When the Governor was after her in that factory and she tricked him with the open door for zombies and stand behind it, they should have ended the Governor then. It was a great scene and they missed a golden opportunity to just rip him to shreds right there. They could have worked the prison tank attack with Rodriguez, etc., and killed Andrea during that attack. If she had killed him there, bam, clean slate and she is a good character.

Wasn't she swerving to avoid a walker in the road?

The crash made plenty of sense. What didn't was Lori leaving the farm to go and leaving Carl alone after being upset with Rick that he was leaving them alone.
