Really enjoyed the ep this week. Seems like the group is mostly a mix of "we need this," such as Michonne and Glenn, and "this place will make us weak," such as Carl, Carol and Rick. Though, I'm sure they all have a mix of both of those mindsets.

So, what are the congresswoman's real intentions behind bringing Rick's family into the community? Manpower, muscle, zombie experience; all are obvious needs. But based on the congresswoman's response to her son being knocked down, it seems as though she may know her group is too soft. And I almost wonder if there is a power struggle or conflict already taking place in the community; thus, she is bringing on some muscle and a new constable to possibly keep that at bay.

I'd further that the 3 exiles and their story will get us to the bottom of what you're asking.

Yeah, that is a great point. The congresswoman's motives could be very much related to the exiles situation.

We can use it to show the state of mind of any of the characters we want to focus on that episode!" I think Rick or one of Rick's group will find and watch the videotapes of others in the community and use that to gain valuable information. Especially valuable will be the tapes of the 3 people who were exiled.

What Rick threatens at the end is almost identical to what the Governor did last season. Taken in by a group during a time of crisis, when weakness comes he strikes at the authority figure(s) and takes the place for himself.

Rick's character development has been one of the most enjoyable aspects the entire series but it's been really amazing since the prison fell last season and this season in particular.

He's a Road Warrior. If he changes from a 'face' to a 'heel', the audience will still cheer for him.

One of the things I'm really enjoying about this season is Gimple pushing Rick further and further and testing the idea of just how good he really is.

Agreed here. They showed a flashback to his 'We can all get along' speech to the Gov when he rolled up with the tank. That's all gone.

I thought it was absolutely brilliant how he handled the Den Mother. She was all about transparency (so she said) but it was Rick who walked in and told her exactly how things could go down without her seemingly knowing it. He's ruthless.

Great scene, especially showing it again later. It also works on multiple levels, Rick talking about the bad folks outside, Rick talking about himself, but also the Congresswoman was doing the same thing. Lots of directions the show can take, but I saw it as she knows her people are weak, she knows their vulnerable. She's taking a big risk bringing these people in, but based on Aaron watching them and her comments about them being a family and protecting each other shes betting these people will work with her and strengthen their community instead of against her or take everything for themselves. Shes playing it much safer than The Terminus idiots who let anyone just waltz in before they went darkside. But at the same time, shes using Rick and company just as he is using them.

Obviously Rick will want to make changes to how things are done, will be interesting to see how soon before everyone is butting heads. We've already seen it with Glenn & the son.

Thought it was odd at the beginning when she had the big goofy, #### eating grin and was fumbling around with her weapons. Then they did the interview with her and it became obvious she was playing the part from the start.

They are protraying the Congresswoman as being very smart and savvy, wondering if we find out soon in a future episode if she saw right thru Carols BS.

I'm guessing it was probably the former as a walker still 50 feet away wouldn't be much of a threat and the people in the community had to have at least some experience in killing walkers.

You know Daryl doesn't like working with anybody, he wants to be alone. It will be like in The Avengers when Captain America said "Hulk....Smash" It will be "Daryl....Hunt"

Great episode, fun for all. Loved Carol, the smartest of them all, and loved Rick and Carl keeping their walker-jabbing skills up to par with some casual blade practice. "Shoulda gone with the backhand on that second one, Dad."

Great episode, fun for all. Loved Carol, the smartest of them all, and loved Rick and Carl keeping their walker-jabbing skills up to par with some casual blade practice. "Shoulda gone with the backhand on that second one, Dad."

That was another great scene. Second time Rick and Carl have bonded during a walker slaughter.

Melissa McBride was sensational in this episode. Really well-written to have Carol turn herself into a bumbling housewife and McBride sold it.

I agree with you abour Darryl. I truly don't think this is a bad group. I think it's a good place, but the group might be forced or torn between a decision involving Darryl. She said the previous 3 "didn't work out," so I could see the conflict in this story line coming from there, but I don't otherwise think Alexandria is anything other than what we see.

First, killing the walker at that distance should keep other walkers from "following" since the walker didn't get to the fence, sort of like the prison ones did eventually get too much for the fence to handle. Second, I think it was to also prove a point at how much more capable Rick's crew is. If you noticed the "guard" had this amazed look on his face that Sasha made that shot without effort. Sort of like Glenn popping the senator's son, Glenn had no problem telling him how it was because this was no longer meek little Glenn, this was battle hardened Glenn who could take a softee like the senator's son.

To the first post, I think Rick said that as a reflection of how he already sized them up to be a bunch of weak people. Carl saw it as well. Goes back to the discussion with the senator, who Rick hadn't even spoken to yet. It was funny that in that video confession, he never actually answered her question if he had sized them up yet. He had.

I thought it was a great line. After watching the entire episode, I thought it made more sense. I think the point of that line wasn't about saving the community at all. The point was that he had already sized them up as I mentioned above (he didn't answer the senator's question). Carol and Rick played everything perfectly and at the end, Rick's comment about taking it over if they had to summed everything up. Those two played their parts, sized up the town and became part of the structure. Old poker pro may realize that she let the wolves in, but she may not, I am not sure about that. I think in the back of her mind she realizes that they are weak and will get rolled over if they don't toughen up (based on her comment to Glenn after he knocked out her son) or she may think that Rick's crew is nicer than they actually are. I do think Rick's crew is "good", but "good" in their survival world means not drowning while trying to save a helpless person.

I wonder from a building aspect if they did the poles outside because 1) humans weren't really a perceived threat and 2) it would be easier to have the construction equipment outside of the fences which were pretty close to the houses. It seems like maybe they were really thinking more about camouflage (walkers can't see in and handfuls bounce off/go around) than protection against a "herd" or rogue gangs. That said, it could be that it was done that way for filming, which would be kind of lame, but oh well, I can live with it. Sounds like they haven't had to encounter anything that would be a problem for it yet, with an emphasis on yet.

Rick's character development has been one of the most enjoyable aspects the entire series but it's been really amazing since the prison fell last season and this season in particular.

They already explained food. They do food runs and have swept everything in a 53 mile radius so far. That's nearly 9000 square miles of an area they said was largely evacuated.

What Rick threatens at the end is almost identical to what the Governor did last season. Taken in by a group during a time of crisis, when weakness comes he strikes at the authority figure(s) and takes the place for himself.

He's a Road Warrior. If he changes from a 'face' to a 'heel', the audience will still cheer for him.

One of the things I'm really enjoying about this season is Gimple pushing Rick further and further and testing the idea of just how good he really is.

Agreed here. They showed a flashback to his 'We can all get along' speech to the Gov when he rolled up with the tank. That's all gone.

She said they are for "Full transparency" so yea, it is to show to all people that are already there ..

Remember one of the first things they were told was he wanted to bring them back to an "Audition" and he wished there was a better term... because it sounded like a Dance audition which only happens on Fridays... which was responded to with

As far as a plot reason... my hindsight take on it is that if the congresswoman is really as good at reading people as she says, she might do it so she can review the tapes to gain insights she missed the first time.

However my actual take on it is, some writer said, "Oh, hey! I got it! It would be awesome if we have her video tape them talking one on one! You know, kind of like a reality show confessional! We can use it to show the state of mind of any of the characters we want to focus on that episode!" And the other writers agreed and no one bothered to actually worry about a reason for why she'd tape them.

My feeling is in an episode or two we'll either see a group watching the tapes ( remember she is a Congress Person so a committee seems about right ) or someone will mention they watched the tapes and helped determine the roles..

Would explain the "Still trying to figure out Daryl's Role" comment.. The committee is having a hard time figuring out just where he'd fit in, thus discussions are ongoing between the members.. Could possibly be she wants him to stay but others are worried on his state of mind and wanting him exiled..

This is an interesting thought. I think the congresswoman is well aware that Rick's "family" won't stand for any of it's members not being allowed to stay in the community. It's basically an all or nothing proposition.

When the gate was opened and a walker started ambling toward it, it was shot by the rifle with a silencer and one of Rick's (or RIck, don't rememeber which) group said, "its a good thing we're here", was it a reflection of the accuracy of the shooter or, was it because they killed a walker? I'm guessing it was probably the former as a walker still 50 feet away wouldn't be much of a threat and the people in the community had to have at least some experience in killing walkers.

I still don't get why the continue to waste bullets like that.

First, killing the walker at that distance should keep other walkers from "following" since the walker didn't get to the fence, sort of like the prison ones did eventually get too much for the fence to handle. Second, I think it was to also prove a point at how much more capable Rick's crew is. If you noticed the "guard" had this amazed look on his face that Sasha made that shot without effort. Sort of like Glenn popping the senator's son, Glenn had no problem telling him how it was because this was no longer meek little Glenn, this was battle hardened Glenn who could take a softee like the senator's son.To the first post, I think Rick said that as a reflection of how he already sized them up to be a bunch of weak people. Carl saw it as well. Goes back to the discussion with the senator, who Rick hadn't even spoken to yet. It was funny that in that video confession, he never actually answered her question if he had sized them up yet. He had.

My guess is she realizes the group is soft and weak and she doesnt expect it to last. Kind of like Bob last year talking about how the other groups he was with kept getting wiped out. I think shes hiding supplies or practicing her skills/exploring the area so shes prepared when all hell breaks loose.
