***Official*** Washington Redskins 2015 Offseason Thread (1 Viewer)

Not Suh, but I would have paid for Iupati, I would have paid for Hudson, I'd have made a decent offer to Parnell or Franklin, at least offered something to Boling, and I'd still make an offer to Bulaga. Offensive line is the only area I'd want the 'skins to spend some significant $$$ on. Other than that, the personnel are so bad across the board that bargain basement types and savvy draft picks will improve the roster by default.

I feel like the Eagles are imploding right now. Too bad we're in no condition to take advantage of it on the field. Hopefully we can when they want to trade up for Mariota.
As it stands now, Chip Kelly, Coach >>>>> Jay Gruden, Coach. As for Chip Kelly, GM, time will tell. I do know that since everyone thinks the Eagles are going to trade up to get Mariotta, that makes it less likely to happen. Again, time will tell.

I'm not sold that I'd want them to spend on O-Line (although I wouldn't complain if they did). I think there is so many holes they just need to be very savvy in the draft the next couple of years to even have a shot. Oh and half way decent QB play which I don't think they are capable of.

The price of OL has really gone up this year. I really don't see the Redskins spending big on OL.

Fixing the defense is really the top priority. If they sign Paea, that will make two DL that will start or be heavy in the rotation. I think it makes a lot of sense.

I don't like to agree with the putzes on the radio. But I do think that the Oline has looked worse due to QB play. I wouldn't mind if all the moves were just to shore up Defense.

Epic day of free agency and the Skins mostly sat it out.

It feels like the dawn of a new era.
Love this approach. Let the dust settle of all the big names flying off the board and then scoop up those 2nd level guys for team friendly deals.

So John Clayton thinks the Skins will take Mariota at #5. Can't say I would agree with that one.
This seems like a pretty transparent attempt to drive up the price on a trade for their pick, no?
I would hope that's the case. But Clayton made it sound like if he's there the Skins are going to take him. Trading the pick would be the ideal situation. Don't think Mariota would be the answer.

I think this is all talk in hopes someone trades up.

Sig just tweeted:

leaked by OAK to force CLE/NYJ trade up RT @RyanRattyNFL Per John Clayton, if Marcus Mariota is available @ 5, WAS will select him

No one has called about trading for Kurt Cousins.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/03/11/bruce-allen-says-no-one-has-called-for-kirk-cousins/

Maybe all the talk about trading Cousins will finally go away. It has been so ridiculous. I thought the Redskins could possibly get a 7th round pick for him. If not, the Redskins could cut him at the end of training camp. Most likely, he will be the 2nd or 3rd string QB and leave after this year when is rookie contract is up.
Agreed. All the Cousins hype should start dying down now. There's so QB needy teams out there that could use him. For no one to be calling about him just says that other teams don't think he is that good.

Seems like the theory on the Mariotta drafting is that the Skins are putting that out there as bait because other teams in the NFL would believe it because that is the kind of stupid crap the Redskins do. :lmao:

I actually think all the talk of Chip Kelley trading up to get Mariotta is all smoke screen. No one in the NFL telegraphs what they are planning to do in the draft. Why would Kelley spill the beans so early in the process.

based on his actions in the last week... i wouldnt put it past him.

They won't trade up, with the Bradford trade they gave up their 2nd. For The Ealgels to move up from 20 to 5 it would take multiple 1sts and multiple 2nd round picks. They just don't have the ammunition to move up.

No im pretty sure they got a second and bradford for foles.

porkchop coming in for a visit, so is parrish cox. we'll see.

really enjoying the measured focus on the defense so far.

DL and secondary being the focus is a good thing.

So Clayton was on 980 this afternoon and basically made it sound like he's speculating that McCloughan would take Mariota there because McCloughan wouldn't pass on a QB he likes.

I found it to be a rather Redskinesque deal for them.

And why does Clayton think Mccloughan likes Mariota that much?

I can't believe that it's been 24 hours since the last post in this thread, and here it is the height of FA season. My, how times change in Ashburn...

What a killer deal.

McC has made three major (in a manner of speaking) moves in FA so far--3 DL.

He's rebuilt the DL in one swoop, with team friendly contracts. What a boss.

The Titans and Arizona Cardinals pursued Orakpo, and he visited Tennessee first on Wednesday. He wound up remaining in Nashville on Thursday, and early Friday morning agreed to a contract that Fox Sports reported is for four years, $32 million, with $13.5 million guaranteed.
Wow

Good for them and better for us. Way too much money for a player that's way too unreliable. I couldn't imagine trusting Orakpo past another 1 year deal with incentives.

Wow.

Talk about paying Ferrari price for Ford Taurus production.

It's more like paying a Ferrari price for a Ferrari that is usually in the shop. Orakpo is/was a beast...when he was healthy. The problem is that he's just been chronically injured. I've been over him for 2 years and wished they let him go last year. We've moved on. I wish him the best, but I think at this point, he's just a guy.

Care to elaborate? Or were you co-signing my post but you're illiterate?
marking an X to agree w/ your post compels you to insinuate I'm illiterate? nice guy.
Usually an "X" indicates you think they're wrong.

What is " " ?

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/03/13/chris-culliver-lands-deal-in-d-c/

Chris Culliver’s visit to Washington appears to have been a rousing success.

We posted early Friday about Culliver’s trip to meet with the Redskins, which was the first public show of interest in his services since free agency opened on Tuesday. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that there won’t need to be a second one because Culliver will sign a four-year contract to join the team’s secondary.

The Redskins got very little from their cornerbacks last season before and after DeAngelo Hall was lost for the season to a torn Achilles, which makes their interest in corners this offseason easy to understand. Culliver should be the team’s No. 1 corner before the ink of his signature on the contract even has a chance to dry.

Culliver joins defensive linemen Stephen Paea, Ricky Jean Francois and Terrance Knighton as new additions to the defense in General Manager Scot McCloughan’s first offseason running the shop in Washington.

The defensive makeover continues.

As a bonus, this means Porter should get cut. Hopefully by noon. Can't do it fast enough. Saves $2.3m in cap space.

He made $2.8m last year, and contributed 3 tackles, 2 assists, and 1 pass defended in 3 games played. That works out to $467,000 per useful play :wall:

Skins are ABSOLUTELY moving in the right direction. Something has clearly changed this offseason. We finally have a real GM, for the first time in DECADES.
