Peyton & Eli Manning - alternate MNF program: ‘The ManningCast’ (3 Viewers)

The guests the last 2 weeks have been rather boring. Too much interview like situations. My favorite one last night was probably Steph Curry but only because they actually watched the game and had some insights on it. Hurts didn't talk about the game very much. Hamm was short and sweet, and you could tell Eli was not happy with Hamm about the SNL skit.

The guests on this show from what I have see are seen as people they 'have to' include and tolerate while they rather just watch the game. Peyton actually seems annoyed with the guest as they have to ask them interview questions while he is solely focused on the game. Peyton is so much fun to see his reactions and how immersed he is while watching tho. I think the backgrund irritation adds to the entertainment imo. But agreed, its way more insightful when they actually talk about the game.

Not completely crazy about the guest format in that it's a "forced" part of the show. I'd rather see fewer guests but people they really want there.

I'm sure Eli was ok with it, just playing along with the bit.

I love the brother's chemistry, but I find myself watching the regular broadcast of MNF more often because I do not like how they cut down the screen showing the game (and I have a 65 inch TV) and when they have guests it distracts from the game. Buck and Aikman are dull, but I prefer to be hearing about what's going on on the field rather than what Tracy Morgan is up to.
i do tend to agree, though I've found it less intrusive this year. I think they may have made the actual game portion of the screen a little bigger. Plus Eli and Peyton seem to be a bit better at keeping the questions and answers short and getting in and out of breaks and ushering the guests off more seamlessly, which helps too. Feels like there is more time per game this year without guests. On the other hand, the better controlled nature of it is probably reducing the off the rails mistakes that were really the best parts of it last year.

Watched this for the first time the last two weeks.
I will not watch again. They had Pat McAfee on last week. Whole thing was painful. You guys watch the whole game this way? You don't switch over to the regular broadcast?

I think what's best, for me, is to watch the game, and then catch the highlights when @Faust posts them here.
When the Manning brothers switch their celebrity interview show over to the mornings, and have a cup of coffee in front of them, I will support. Maybe they can bring on a celebrity chef, and he can suggest some wing recipes for the big game. Maybe they can cook them during the broadcast!! Game Changer!!

Tied up last night, how was it?
I thought it was outstanding, except their football insight is so outstanding they can almost do away with guests entirely, particularly non football guests. The country music singer segment was lame, was just to promote an upcoming ABC award show

I flipped back and forth between the Mannings and Aikman/Buck and the Mannings offered much much better insight on things like Lamar’s first TD pass, why the Ravens OL got illegally downfield on an RPO, and a stunt the Ravens ran that created their first sack, just for a few examples. It has its problems, but more than anything it highlights the profoundly mediocre analysis Aikman provides

I really, really wanted to hear Peyton give an answer to Cousins when Cousins asked for advice against 0 coverage.

I like them the best when one or both Mannings are obviously rooting for one of the teams. Eli holds nothing back when the Giants are playing, Peyton was openly rooting for Denver earlier this year, and both were pulling for the Saints last night. I think that's what I like the most about their broadcast is that it feels casual and real. I hate how Aikman tries to be so anti-Dallas to avoid the homer criticisms.

Same reason why I think Amazon is killing it on the TNF broadcasts. Sherman says what he feels, Fitzpatrick played for half the teams in the league so he's not afraid of stepping on toes. The guys feel real, not stiff in a booth trying to be Joe Buck Junior.

Same. I was actually really impressed by how much schematic stuff Cousins went into. I feel like a lot of guests come on, and sort of talk about nothing, and occasionally forget a game is going on, and Cousins was actually like challenging the Mannings and offering up critiques of QB play, including his own.

With Harrison and Wayne, and later Thomas and Decker, I doubt Peyton faced 0 coverage often. Just asking for big plays.

I thought all the guests last night were very entertaining and interesting in their own way... nice mix.

I don't really know who Luke Bryan (Ryan? Byron?) is - other than he's a country music singer, but he was really quite funny. Amazed as well at how many times he has fallen off the stage while performing.

Loved it last season, but for some reason, this season has really sucked. Guests just haven't been great and they hardly talk about the game.

Marshawn may have ruined it.

Wonder what the ratings are like this season?

IMO, they need football players on and some athletes, having actors, former presidents, and entertainers on defeats the purpose. It should be an entertainment value while they talk about the game. Tonight with Bucs playing AB should have been on.

Kind of dud city tonight guest-wise. Moss was OK, but he's on TV all the time.

I had no idea who Dana White is... maybe a UFC fighter from the 80s?

They needed AB tonight.. Show was again dull, been dull most of the year.

White is the UFC President, again not sure why those guys are on to talk football.

How many more episodes do they have? I don't think they will broadcast over the holidays, 2 more weeks?

AB would have been an awful idea. Gronk would have made sense though.

It's really a fine line between being great and very cringey. You need someone that can ask football questions to release the knowledge of the brothers while not seeming to force the issue. Mickleson was great. He asked some very good football questions in an entertaining way and it got them going. It was value added.

You also need it to be focused on the game (mostly) with the occasional somewhat on topic tangent. It's a hard balance and I wonder if it just has a natural ending point that may be near. Maybe limiting it to once a month would help?

I've been a fan of the Manningcast since they started it, but have always wished they'd only have NFL related guests. Now I think I'd prefer no guests at all. The best thing the entire show has going for it is Peyton's amazing recall. He can see a team line up and instantly remember that Chicago used X play for a TD against Minnesota 7 years ago with this same scheme/formation. And Eli is better than I thought he'd be at doing the same thing. They're both incredibly football smart - so genius idea here: Have the smart football guys talk smart football.

Quit wasting time having Peyton ask Brad Paisley what play he would call for this third down situation. We don't care if Robin Roberts would go for it on 4th and 1. I want to hear Eli explain why using X play on 4th and short is the best option against this defensive alignment.

Would it be an improvement to have an actual host that is able to steer the show to these type of things? It seems sometimes the show gets bogged down because there isn't a guy that ties stuff together. Peyton & Eli are fine playing off each other and can go there but sometimes it stalls out and gets awkward or dead. Having a guy (it would have to be the right guy and I am not sure who it should be. Russillo? Van Pelt? Greenberg? ?????). It has to be someone that can manage the personalities without getting in the way but also having enough personality to hold their own when it is needed.

I've had a similar thought, someone to keep them on track in a way but it can't be someone that's doing any type of play-by-play calling, otherwise it could just end up as a crowded version of a Buck/Aikman or Nance/Romo broadcast. I agree it's got to be the right host, someone smart enough to ask good questions and just like you said, stay out of the way. Maybe Dan Patrick. Van Pelt would probably be good at it but with Sportcenter immediately following, not sure if he could/would. I wouldn't mind if they experiment with a host. Maybe Archie is free? lol

I used to really enjoy this but switched back to the regular ESPN broadcast. Although I like Peyton & Eli better I prefer being able to focus on the actual game which I found myself missing almost every play when listening to them.

It's good for about a quarter and then it gets distracting from the game.

Peyton and Eli is the only broadcast I want to see. Don't want to hear the broadcast booth talk about what I'm already seeing, and fawning over whoever they interviewed that week. I LIKE that they're only half-watching the game. So am I. Their insight (when they offer it) is better than anything the other guys have. When a QB throws a pick, it literally hurts Peyton. That's how ingrained being a quarterback is for him.

I don't want football guests talking about the same football cliches. I want to see people from other walks of life talking as fans. I like when they rip on each other, as siblings do. I like Peyton and Russell Wilson lamenting Super Bowl rings they didn't win. You never hear that anywhere else.

The guests are having fun and they're having fun. I used to just mute the games when I watched them, or listen to the Spanish broadcast (I don't speak Spanish. I just enjoy hearing the enthusiasm in their voices without having to process the boring talk). Now I have another option. Just my opinion.
