Whether or not it was Gilligan‘s intent, the show so far is a blistering commentary on the rise of AI. The real time pro-and-conning of “us” giving Carol a nuke cemented it for me.
Hadn't considered the AI angle...nice.

For me its been the obvious study in philosophy and psychology of the self vs society. What does it mean to be selfish (in good and bad ways)? And to sublimate. Does combined and shared knowledge of society enhance the individual or destroy them?

While i appreciate the TV making and providing the inspiration for thought, im not as jumpy&quo about it as the rest of you. I think for now, im not overly enjoying her constant irritation and curmudgeonry.

I'm OK with unlikeable main characters if they're well done (Succession) but it takes great writing and acting to pull it off. So far the main character in this show is just extremely annoying and dumb. I was hoping for more of a story from the other 'survivors' - how can they possibly just think this is all OK and keep hanging out with their family members? Maybe the guy in S. America will bring something good to the show. I'm still watching.

3rd episode. Meh. There were way too many of these sort of episodes in BCS. I hope they aren’t as prevalent.
Disagree on the meh. Loving this so far and thought episode 3 was maybe the best
I like the show a lot. Just thought 3 dragged. The ice hotel. The grocery store. Just meh for me.
I agree. Didn't think the episode advanced the story much.

I disagree. From that last shot of the episode where she is looking all contemplative, she now has the realization that she can ask for pretty much anything. That's pretty huge for plot development. I imagine the first thing she will now ask for is for them to stop the research into figuring out how to convert the immune folks. That's too easy, so they will probably find someway to refuse it.

I also dont think the mention at the beginning of Carol freezing her eggs was for nothing. Will not be surprised to see Zosia show up to her door with a baby or at the very least they are using her offspring for their conversion research.

Other things from this episode I liked.

- The "dance" of the big rigs all parking in perfect sync. Just an incredible shot.
- She had the entire store restocked so she could eat a Lean Cuisine.
- The caller ID on her phone says "It's Us, Carol"
- Chinga tu Madre

I didn't like Breaking Bad because the main characters were so unlikeable but I like this one. Different strokes etc...

Those were exactly what I didn’t care for.

The frozen dinner was funny.
If you don't care for cinematography, I wouldn't expect you'd love BCS. How did you feel about Breaking Bad?

Loved BB. BCS was pretty good. Definitely dragged in places. I’m on record for not loving Kim wexler. 😬

The trucks were the only cinematography forward shots in those 3 references. Not sure what you’re getting at. I did grow up in LA. Knew/know many people in the business. Worked on set multiple multiple times. Art for arts sake is cool. But ultimately the story/plot/characters drive any show.

I think the plot is moving at a good pace. We are three episodes in only. We already know what the "alien" threat is for the most part, what it's consequences have been so far in terms of what it's doing to the population, and have tons of insights into how this "hive" works. A lot of shows would drag that pacing out a lot more.

When I saw the first scenes of the pilot, I figured we'd have to wait until the end of the season to find out what this alien signal all meant, but we ended up knowing this by the end of that episode.

The pacing is fine.

Carol should have realized she could ask for pretty much anything when the guy showed up at their English speakers' rendezvous on the President’s plane. He had it staffed with a crew of supermodels and all the best food and drink. He was the epitome of a kid in a candy store "You mean you'll give me whatever I ask for?"

I suspect we are not finished with this crew.

I scrolled down as fast as I could to avoid reading anything but my first impression (of the first episode) was "meh, but I'd watch the rest to see where it goes"

and yet he was still told they wouldn’t kill food for him, so no lobster  They also don’t let their family members be just their family members, they are also dr’s and everybody else so they don’t give you “everything”

I suppose, but at that point it was still super early in the crisis and she and the others would have still been processing things. And those requests were in the context of food. I think it's perfectly reasonable for it to take a little longer to make the leap from asking for lobster to asking for a nuclear weapon.

My only real nitpick with the show is that if it's so easy to disable the hive and killing millions just by getting upset, they really shouldn't be flying her around everywhere.

It wasn't just food though. When the guy showed up in POTUS's plane, Zosia turned to Carol and said something like "Anybody could have asked for it".

I'm mildly shocked so many of the board posters like this show
-It plays to me much differently than it must play to most of you

Out of respect for the House, I won't deep dive into this but...the premise there is a large group or the majority of humans with a few exceptions that can't go with the flow...
Really brings out memories of the Pandemic and many of the posters on here typing some of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen in print
We had posters actually speak out and say they would like to basically wear a mask at all times for the rest of their lives, no issues wearing them at all or at a moment's notice

The show is way ahead of most of the audience and I doubt most get or feel what i feel when i watch the show and I never say these things about any other show on Television
This one seems blatant in its assault on society and human beings but again, maybe not everyone is hearing the show in the same way I am

-That said, 97% of this community has raised their hand and Identified themselves as returners of their grocery carts every time they shop.
From the back of the parking lot to the front doors of the Piggly Wiggly, I smell Nobel Peace Prizes for a few of you

I'm in full hijack mode, please move to the back of the plane as I'm holding a thermal detonator
Thank You!

I'm as pro mask-wearing and shopping cart returning as anyone here I think (but I dont remember anyone saying they actually enjoy wearing a mask), and I love the show so far. You're making a lot of leaps and strange assumptions here.

We wouldn't expect anything else from our buddy MOP would we?

Really liking the show. Obviously the whole thing is a fantastical work of fiction, but the idea that 12 random people could somehow "save" the human race from this scenario is obviously silly. They wouldn't even know where to begin. And Carol having this intense motivation to do so (as a generally miserable person who lost the only person she seemingly cared about right away) seems kinda far-fetched.

Best case scenario is that you spend a couple of months being like the French speaking guy......hopping around the globe in luxury.....seeing all the coolest stuff, eating all the best food, sleeping with models (if you feel that's morally appropriate) and then just maybe eat a bullet if you dont want to be zombified at the end of it.

Me personally......I'm playing the world's top 100 golf courses (sending the minions ahead to prep them as needed so they're in pristine condition) seeing everything awesome I can see along the way and calling it a career

You could golf those courses with the actual current pros. I was thinking I could stage live sporting events - football, soccer, boxing matches at awesome venues, concerts and other live performances from celebrity survivors with randos filling out the crowds.

How would sports or competition work in a hive mind?

Well yes it is silly that they can save the human race thus the reason only one of them is even contemplating it. And she obviously has no idea where to begin.

And it is sci fi dude - of course it is far fetched

For sure. Dont get me wrong...I'm not REALLY looking for it to make sense at all. I just didn't even buy her motivation.

It should be 100% of the people, 100% of the time because it's a simple, courteous, reasonable expectation. And not a single, rational, normal human being is asking nor anticipating a winky badge, Nobel peace prize, pat on the back or anything for simply doing exactly what they're expected to do.

I look for parking spots close to a cart return. Leaving the cart for someone else to deal with is a total d-bag move.

Also, MoP's description of the premise of the show seems incoherent to me.
