Interesting theory I've seen.

Maybe the way to reverse or disable the hive is with harmonics. Clues include how the opening theme is sung in unison and how at the end of the last episode when they are all saying " Please Carol" all out of sync.
This definitely feels like a show that reddit is going to "crack" within the next couple of weeks

I've seen some interesting on-line theories

Carol -
a descendent of an alien from the same planet that escaped that planet - I assume this would mean all the non-hive minds have similar ancestry

End game for hive-mind -
From many, one. Ultimately the goal is to reach just a single vessel to host the hive mind, and then also eliminate the need for killing animals for survival or mass agriculture, thus preserving the earth's resources

That first one seems like a real dumb theory. No offense

I believe Gilligan said the show won’t be focused on the aliens so I don’t think it’s going to be that.

I assume we all know what was under those plastic sheets?
No? I was guessing some kind of body but idk.

Always have to be paying attention.
It can't be bodies. It was just a large commercial refrigerator with tons of produce and other foods. Wouldn't human bodies start rotting even in a refrigerator after a couple weeks or however long it's been?

And again she doesn't immediately get shocked. She lifts the plastic up and looks at it for like 20 seconds. If it was human bodies or parts of bodies wouldn't you recognize that immediately?

or maybe they were vacuum sealed or something and it wasn't easily recognizable at first?

Maybe it is the actual human bodies and the ones walking around are pod people. Like Invasion of the Body Snatchers. It is odd that most of the ones walking around are still dressed in what they had on when their minds were altered. For example, the tall guy that Carol invited into her home was dressed for cycling.

They would need a hell of a lot of freezer space to freeze 8 billion people

even more reason to vacuum seal them to make space.

Not buying it. Again, if that was a full human body she would have recognized it immediately and not stared at it for 20 seconds before her aha moment

So I had a dream/nightmare last night where I was in the Pluribus world and the only conscious human. My wife had to wake me up because apparently I was whimpering, "**** no" over and over. Don't remember much else, but it was disturbing. :lmao:

I get that they wouldn't care at all about what they're wearing, but assuming they are actual bodies they would need to shower/bathe over time. I assume these aren't pod bodies because the sex-craved survivor presumably would have discovered differently after sleeping with so many of them. They indicate they are vegetarian so presumably the body still needs sustenance.

My best guess assuming the "living" are still in actual bodies is that the milk is some sort of ground up blood plasma, spinal fluid, and/or stomach and liver contents to keep the "alive" bodies going with re-usable proteins. I have firsthand experience being in whole body donation facilities and freezers would be necessary so I am assuming those are freezers. Body parts are often removed and stored in containers or strong bags together. So, it would have reasonably taken the main character a few moments to comprehend that she is seeing a frozen bag of human livers or something.* Further, the PH is 7.1 which is pretty close to neutral and I think so is the human body.

*I venture to say that I am one of only a few to have ever observed an actual "bag of dicks." :lmao:

I think the number dead is somewhere around 900 million. And there are refrigerator/freezers all over the world. All the dead aren't in Albuquerque. People walking around aren't "pod" people. We saw they come back to "living" from their seizure state relatively quickly after infection in the first episode. I think the delay was her putting the pieces of the puzzle together, realizing that the hive people are using human remains to nourish themselves.

A lot of Redditors were saying "Soylent Green is people". Apparently it's a reference to a movie that I haven't seen. But, I guess the idea is that the dead bodies are freeze-dried, then pulverized, and then made into a powder that, when mixed with water and other potential necessary additives, would provide sustenance to the "Plurbs/Others". They can't kill, but they can use resources to their utmost potential.

I was only referring to the improbability of filling freezers with 8 billion people. If they are human remains its gotta be something that isn't immediately recognizable. Like some organs, or skin, or something. If it was just a body, or some arms and legs, I think she immediately reacts

I could see how a world where nothing is about you would be disturbing.

Another reason i am skeptical that it is human bodies. They are vegetarians. They seemed somewhat shocked that as many people died as they did when they took over. What was their plan if nobody really died when the hive mind took over? What was going to sustain them considering they won't kill any animals for food/sustenance?

I think they said many more died than they anticipated because they had to expedite the process.
Also, they said they wouldn't kill animals, but if the guy with the harem killed an animal they would prepare and cook it. So, if the people died during the hive mind process.....
Also, if all the knowledge and experiences are shared by everyone, then they don't need billions of people on Earth. They will determine the planet is overcrowded and humans and all they require are actually a detriment to the continuation of the planet.

This is why I think what they are consuming is like ground up spinal fluids or something. They can split proverbial hairs that way and claim that non-meat products are still their primary source of calories as they are like grilling up somebody's calf muscle. They also probably wouldn't need as many dead bodies this way if they are consuming just a portion of the dead body for a limited purpose.

She's been through a **** ton of freaky things within the past week. She knows there are 900 million dead. She has seen several dead bodies and even moved them around. It is possible she is just not fazed by dead bodies at this point and the delayed shock reaction was her putting the pieces together that they are being used as a food source. When she realizes that, then the reaction kicks in.

They said the PREFER to be vegetarian. They never said they wouldn't eat meat. They just won't kill for it. But already dead animals/humans...it's efficiency.

Also wonder if whatever is under there has nothing to do with the milk. There was tons of other stuff being stored in there and it would be a nice misdirection if whatever she saw under there related something other than the mystery she is actively trying to solve.

What that could be I have no idea.

I thought the cold open to episode 4 was classic Gilligan and really good. I am interested to learn more about our Paraguayan friend and what’s he’s up to with that radio. I don’t think he’s looking for survivors.

Starting to wonder if that original radio signal needs to keep broadcasting for the hive thing to work and that's what he's looking for.
Wasn't the radio signal just a list of ingredients to make the virus or whatever it is?
Yeah, but we really don't know how it works and there's obviously something that can reverse it.
They needed those giant *** dishes to get the radio signal that was coming from millions of light years away. Is this guy's ham radio really gonna get that signal?

I dont know. It's just speculation. Maybe they amplified it locally for it to work the way it does? I dont know what else the radio could be for if it isn't for listening for other immune people.

It could be that simple actually. The takeaway from that cold open was that he wrote down Carol's name and will most likely be looking for her. The radio wasn't really the important part of that scene.
No, that would be him chowing down on Alpo out of the can.

Tangent but aren't most of the best shows on TV right now/recently sci-fi?

Severance, Silo, Foundation, For All Mankind, Fallout, The Last of Us, Andor, etc... I guess the argument on the other side is Hacks, Ted Lasso, The Bear, The White Lotus, Slow Horses, Only Murders in the Building, etc... but almost all of those seem to be diminishing as they go. (and I know there are mainstream shows like Abbott Elementary, St. Denis Medical, High Potential, etc.. as well)

I guess I'm curious what the never sci-fi people are watching these days but maybe I should take it to the Netflix thread.
Task is new and excellent. Not sci-fi at all.

I thought they only came in a box. At least that is what the song implied.
I believe that is only for a singular, still attached one. A medical-grade bag is apparently necessary to preserve multiple detached ones for medical research or human consumption.

I am just hoping it is in fact a giant bag of dicks
I can attest that it will take a few seconds for the observer to recognize what he or she is seeing if so...
Not you though. You are the singular who can recognize a giant bag of dicks immediately. Should put that on your resume. It’s impressive.
Is a giant bag of dicks a large bag filled with normal sized dicks or a normal size bag filled with massive dicks? @Zow I need more info please.

Well it helped when the person showing it to me said, “Hey, want to see an actual bag of dicks? Haha”

Large, sturdier looking zip lock bag looking bag.

I did not closely examine the bag to gauge the relative size of the cadaver penises. I assume the sizes and colors varied.

That's one of the ways we differ....I would have said "No, I'm good".

You must have been so excited. Like @shuke and @General Malaise excited for a bag full of big macs

Finally watched 4. Found myself fast forwarding. I just find the 1-3 minute montages showing one thought/action tedious. If I were her I’d be driving to see where they went.

"Soylent Green is people"
was coming in to reference Soylent Green.

like others, hoping it's not- but what we're assuming she sees and being at the milk plant certainly suggests it.

I'm confident in my sense of humor- has never bugged me if people find stuff funny that I don't and vice versa. that said, I'm not finding this terribly funny the way some of you are... kinda wish I was, but I also didn't find the movie Anora funny (which some of you did)... and ultimately that's fine. but also makes this not as good show for me, even if it's interesting and nicely shot.

I'm interested enough to keep watching. Not a stellar endorsement and I'm not recommending it to friends yet but so far its worth watching in a crowded world of great television to choose from during my limited couch time these days.

Is it odd that the collective wisdom of billions of people failed to realize the garbage bag was too heavy for the drone? Or is there a clue there? Maybe the hive mind is incapable of comprehending that she wouldn't follow their instructions on weight? It seemed like an odd event to me and I'm suspicious.
