PUNK Music Draft - Now Ongoing post awesome punk songs thread (1 Viewer)

That was my 3.14, and also my 90s pick (which I will have a ton of)

I was planning on The Interrupters - By My Side for my girl pick to close out my required pics because I   Aimee Interrupter hard, but I'll go a different way for variety with my 4.04 pick Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Date with The Night

Now it's time to catch up on what I missed in  the thread  I made that pick based on the Google Doc, so I can change it if needed.
I think floppo gave two picks for you but double check

So, last year was my 40th bday. One of the things I wanted to do was learn to play guitar. My sisters bought me an electric, my wife got me lessons for a year and my brother in law got me an acoustic. Youtube is so awesome for people who want to learn to play guitar, but one person (not teacher) who really stood out is Jen Fiorentina. She is a punk rock girl who covers punk rock on her acoustic guitar. Her set up got better as the years went on but the early stuff is prob the best. She is from Canada @Northern Voice. Maybe you have seen her around. Not too big of a country eh?

Enjoy

Well, since there seems to be a love test with the Interrupters, I am going to take this now. This will be my only pick of a band I have not seen. But they play Irving Plaza in March. Maybe I take my kids to their first punk show.

4.14 The Interrupters, Shes Kerosene

My bet is that winds up being the newest song drafted when all is said and done

####, I need an aughts pick too - That's next, and I bet Acer can guess who it will be ;)

I think he was effing with me - I only gave him one pick.  But well played on his part!

Yeah Yeah Yeahs is aughts. I'm not sure about satisfying the category by doubling, but Date With The Night came out before I was in grad school and certainly later than 2000.

Yeah, it's 2003. I wonder what the commish thinks.

I have an aughts pick lined up ;)

After that it is mostly going to be late 90's hardcore or pop punk from the last 3 years (bag)  I actually have an 80s song or two that i want as well - but after my required picks, I am just going to be drafting what I am in the mood for at the moment - lol

Certainly cool. I'm having a lot of trouble making my next pick because of the glut of great music I've heard the past few years, too. But it's more screamo/hardcore revival.

Like I said in a previous post, I was much more of a NYHC kid than I was a punker but I love both. Being straight edge, there were tons of old sXe bands who I would have loved to have seen in the Sunday Matinee hey day. In 2005, one of my favorites reunited for a concert at CBs. Having been (and performed) at CBs, I knew full well that I needed to get there early. Funny thing was, I never had a chance. Tickets were sold out in minutes (thx Internet). So I missed the show and had to watch on a web cam that CBs set up.

Luckily for me, they had a reunion tour in 2006 and I was making sure I went. I can not remember the exact reasons why, but the only show that I could attend was in Syracuse. None of the old buds could go, so my wife, who is so far away from being punk, came with me. We trekked up to some place called the Syracuse Auburn Public Theater to see the mighty Gorilla Biscuits perform the classics. I have seen CIV a number of times, but this was GB. You bet I had my dancing shoes on for this show. And they did not disappoint.

5.3 Gorilla Biscuits, High Hopes, Syracuse Auburn Public Theater, August 7, 2006

And here are two contrasting live shows. One from the 80s and one from 10 days ago at a secret show to celebrate 30 years of their first EP. Lol, some slight changes

Awesome. No idea how I missed out on these guys those 30 years ago, but have grown to love them over the last 10-15 years

Looks like a lot of my picks aren't on Canadian spotify.  That's just how punk we are around here I guess

4.xx Red Hot Chili Peppers - Havana Affair

now we're punkin with gas

I am hopefully a little more engaged now, but perma skip is still ok, and I don't think I'm sharing many targets
think i'm next then, right? there is literally so much to choose from, i have no idea which direction to go in...

let's keep it moving, another popular diddy

Germs - Lexicon Devil -  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_v18sGDxAOE

trying to take some of the songs others may take before nipping at the edges. Funniest thing i can think about this song, and half of the punk songs i like, is how much of a rip off it is when i go to a bar and a juke box and i play Punk. Definitely don't get the bang for my buck with these songs under 2 minutes

Unsure who is next, @El Floppo or @Jaysus

ETA: lol, i could be way off with the order here, just looked at the google doc.

I think you are way off.

Me First alone has enough covers to cover an entire draft.

Somebody should definitely take the Peaches, that's a good one.  My others were just hokey/whatever, thought it might make a fun exercise

Lots of great metal covers of "classic" punk tracks.  Not so many not-metal, that I can find, unless they're punkers themselves.. makes the Peaches track that much better..  but if anybody wants a hand mining for the metal ones, I have many to share

Apologies for the spotlights, in any case, as usual I didn't RTFM before I started tossing stuff out

I feel like punk is such a huge tent the last 2-3 decades I needed some shtick otherwise I don't have much to bring to the table and anyway my lady is home sick, the air outside is full of smoke and my employer keeps making me work

Surprised how long it took for NOFX, Descendants and Dropkick to get some love.  Have stuff from all of them on my list.

I certainly hope so.

In fact I’d love doing a “punk” band covering a song and a punk song being covered
This is what I was planning on doing.  Knock out two bands I want to draft with a single pick

Take your laptop outside and work.  Your cpu fan will blow the smoke away and then your computer will overheat.   two problems solved.

I aint no witch doctor though, so GL to yer woman.

I've realized- previously, from our annual new music thread- that I don't like the whiney sounding, higher-pitched young white guy vocals in my punk that a lot of people here are in to. just the sound of the voice makes me turn off music that I'd otherwise like.

Can you give an example or 2?

Agreed. I am almost surely going to make more from at least one of those bands. There are a few other bands I am shocked to see undrafted yet.

it's a lot of the stuff jaysus and a bunch of other people who's musical tastes I like and respect likes. I'll hear the first chords and be all in... then hear the first vocals and immediately pull out. guys like jeff rosentock.
