I volunteered to make myself coffee this morning. I didn't get paid for it or anything, but the coffee was enough reward for me. #volunteerlife

He has stuck to his guns and San Fran is doing the right thing keeping him for now. They're paying him $12M anyways, despite a lot of hate there is also support. He is making a large donation, perhaps he sees himself in politics following football.

Look, I don't like that he does it but I'm mildly impressed how he has handled himself since coming out in the media. The socks are a bit much but he's angry and feels like he can do something because of the media spotlight and the sport he plays.

We have to listen and not rush to hate here. I was wrong in my initial reaction but it pissed me off. Well, that's partly why he did it.

Last night I went to the Miami game in the new stadium and my entire section was mostly AA around me. All of them stood and sung loudly, cool and my guess is that's what most do but CK feels he needs to express his feelings. Maybe he will learn there are better ways but the fact is for days now the media hasn't stopped talking about it so he has done a good job of getting people talking.

The word volunteer tends to suggest doing something absent compensation, financial or otherwise, out of the kindness of your heart. But correct, they are under no professional obligation to take a second job, although encouraging all the cops to pull out on a week's notice might be pretty lame. And independent of that, their position is lame. And I am sure a bunch of those cops like that gig and are actually annoyed that now there is peer pressure to show how super patriotic they are rather than getting paid to enjoy the action and hot chicks and good times of NFL opening d
Why is it lame?  Would you work for someone who mocks you and falsely accuses you?  They are making a point.  The same people who throw rhetoric around which groups all cops in with a few bad apples, get upset when cops do not provide the protection that everyone is used too.  People deserve to be appreciated for what they do and do not deserve to ridiculed for the sins of others.

They are not working for Colin Kaepernick, they are working for the 49ers; not unlike Kaepernick. And an argument can be made that the real beneficiaries are the people attending the game more than the 49ers.

Kaepernick is part of the 49er organization.  I am certain if someone part of the evil oil cartel did something evil, you would be taking a completely different stance on separating employees from the organization.  Kaepernick has been the face of the 49ers.

Oh, so now Kaep did something evil.

Feel like these cops are really symptomatic of our PC/everyone-gets-a-trophy culture. Some guy with big hair and a busted arm wears socks making fun of them, and they just threaten to take their ball and go home. We really need to teach our kids to have some hard bark.

This is a terrible thought process. You can't expect them to work a second job anymore than I could expect you to work one. Why don't you work as a nightime janitor at children's hospital? Talk about a meaningful gig. An argument can be made you are keeping babies alive by helping to prevent them from getting infections.

That thing where you were going to post to people who disagreed with you but everyone who disagreed with you was so full of derp that it just isn't worth it.
Probably best. You probably didnt realize it wasnt a part of their standard job and are now too stubborn to back down from what you said. Now you can just slink away and not have to admit how it is a completely different issue.

Hot take hypothetical: 2 year old Colin Kaepernik is at the Cincinatti Zoo to visit the gorilla enclosure. His mom is sitting on a bench, humming the National Anthem to herself, not paying attention to Colin. A stranger, who is a cop, approaches her, walking your dog on the way to the beach for a swim at a closed resort with posted "No Swimming" signs.

"don't get up," says the cop "I won't be here long."

suddenly, a woman goes into labor. That woman? Mrs. Hitler. She is about to give birth to the Fuehrer.

What do you do?

What an odd, odd turn this thread has taken. People knock themselves out to support the right of expression for a millionaire living a cush life , but are vehemently opposed to the same rights for those that literally risk their lives on a daily basis. So strange.

Strange, but yet not unexpected.

They are free to volunteer or not volunteer. I'm just saying it seems a little ridiculous over a pair of socks. Kaepernick's issue seems a little more weighty. But maybe it's just me, black people being killed vs. socks.

Yea, you are right. I mean that's what the cops are upset over, just socks. Not being portrayed as a bunch of out of control killing machines hunting blacks for sports. Not being picked off on the streets simply because they wear a uniform. You absolutely nailed it.

But please, keep pushing your agenda with ignorant, hyperbolic comments like yours. After all, BRM!!! Freedom for all (except those you don't agree with).

The socks have nothing to do with protesting. If they were doing this just because of the anthem, would be a lot more ridiculous. The socks are nothing more than him being a #### and insulting police officers.

One of the duties that security at NFL games has is to protect players from angry fans. Something that is much more likely to happen when a player is doing what Colin is doing. Who wants to protect a guy making statements like he has made about them and is blatantly calling them pigs?

If the socks have nothing to do with the protesting, what other time has he ever blatantly called them pigs?

You kind of answered your own question here.

Calling cops pigs is not protesting. It is just name calling. Please tell me you don't actually think that jabs like this are legitimate protesting? If you believe that, can I call you a moron and just say I am protesting your stance here?

Soccer player Megan Rapinoe kneels as 'nod to Kaepernick'

NFL players are no longer the only professional athletes to silently protest during the national anthem.

On Sunday night, women's soccer player Megan Rapinoe followed the example of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick by taking a knee during the playing of "The Star-Spangled Banner" before her Seattle Reign played the Chicago Red Stars in an NWSL game.

After the game, a 2-2 draw, Rapinoe told John D. Halloran of American Soccer Now that her action was "a nod to Kaepernick."

"I am disgusted with the way he has been treated and the fans and hatred he has received in all of this," Rapinoe told espnW's Julie Foudy. "It is overtly racist. 'Stay in your place, black man.' Just didn't feel right to me. We need a more substantive conversation around race relations and the way people of color are treated."

Rapinoe added: "We are not saying we are not one the greatest countries in world. Just need to accept that [it is] not perfect, things are broken.

"And quite honestly, being gay, I have stood with my hand over my heart during the national anthem and felt like I haven't had my liberties protected, so I can absolutely sympathize with that feeling."

Rapinoe said she would continue to kneel in every match going forward.

"The very least that I can do is continue the conversation with him by kneeling for the anthem," she said.

Rapinoe, a World Cup and gold-medal winner with the U.S. women's national team, becomes the first nonblack professional athlete to join in protesting during the national anthem since Kaepernick gained notoriety for sitting out the anthem in 49ers preseason games.

No I didn't, it appeared that were you talking about the cops protesting by not volunteering:

"The socks have nothing to do with protesting. If they were doing this just because of the anthem, would be a lot more ridiculous"
The "They" is the cops, and "doing this" seems to refer to their form of protesting. If that is not what you meant, perhaps you should be more careful with your wording in the future, particularly when you then suggest that someone is a moron for not understanding whatever point you were making.

I get how you could have been confused by my statement as it was ambiguous who I was referring to. I am not saying it has nothing to do with the cops not wanting to work.  I am saying it isn't protesting by Kaepernick, it is just him being a jerk. People are saying the cops don't want to work because Colin is protesting black people being killed. I am saying cops don't want to work because he is a jackass.

To be clear, I didn't call you a moron. Used that as an example to prove how name calling does not equal protesting if that was what you believed. Which it isn't.

No, and they are not screaming for her to leave the country either, probably because she is white.
Probably more to it.

People don't really know who she is. They can see in that picture that nobody was there to even call her any names. Colin started by sitting down for the anthem, not taking a knee. Probably would have gone a lot better for him if he had started that way. She doesn't have any previous disdain pointing at her for being a bum on the field. She didnt double down by wearing shin guards with cops dressed as pigs on them.

The people that are mad at Kaep simply because he is black are a small minority. They exist, but I don't believe there are very many of them.

I had no idea you had posted the ESPN article from your description in the link. People post links here all the time without an explanation as to what one might be reading and in many instances it is just trolling. In your case, asking "Is Megan Panioe's (sic) fro too big", I expected either a photoshopped picture of her or being directed to some lame YouTube clip.
