49ers coach Chip Kelly on Colin Kaepernick: “I see a different Colin out there than I did seven weeks ago”
[...]
-Q: Lots of talk because we’ve asked you about Kaepernick’s physical condition–his weight, his
strength. How did that look yesterday?
-KELLY: I think he’s back. And I addressed that earlier. We had talked–that question originally came up in… camp, in August, and that was six, seven weeks ago.
And as I said, one thing about Colin that everybody here admires is his work ethic, and he’s worked extremely hard at getting more physical, getting stronger, getting faster. We continue to see that.
I see a different Colin out there than I did seven weeks ago, when we were in camp trying to make a final decision on where we were going to be from a quarterback standpoint.
So I see a little bit of difference. I think he’s up closer to 220 now–not that the weight is a number that has to be a certain thing that he has to get to.
But I think he’s gotten stronger and he’s gotten a little bit faster since we last had this conversation.
-Q: Did you see a lot of rust in Kaepernick’s game?
-KELLY: I don’t think there’s a lot of rust. I think there’s some things–he’s not a guy that’s played
seven straight games and is seeing things just like that.
