BTW, this is the thing that a few who cover the NFL said about Purdy in his last few games but didn't point out this:

The difference of the 49ers having a winning season - never mind Purdy blowing a potential playoff slot against the Rams when the 49ers could only score 6 points, and was a winnable game until the game was in Purdy's hands - was that against the Dolphins the next week, 2 minutes to go and on offense, the lack of clutch sealed a losing season with a Purdy soul crushing INT guarntteed a sub .500 season, Kyle Shanahan's 4th out of 8 seasons. Purdy not only had thrown season ending and game ending INT's, but now had split Shanahan's W/L record overall with some of the worst clutch QB play down the stretch in game that were within 3, 5, and 7 points. And then he couldn't even finish the season. Why? He got hurt again. Purdy alone cost them the final four games all due to him. He alone is the difference between the 49ers being a 6 win team to a 10 win team. Because how he finished the season with winnable games.

A better QB would had won more games with this team despite all the injuries. Just because he would had won those last four games down the stretch.

He is as tall as a quarter of the starting QBs in the league and weighs as much as half of the starters in the league. Most of the others outweigh him by 5 pounds or less. This entire premise seems off base and unnecessary to the conversation.

As for "they can wait", he will be a UFA after next season. They will pay more to keep him after next season than they will this offseason, unless he suffers a major injury (not predictable) or falls off a performance cliff (very unlikely).

its a good offense with playmakers and a good line. This limits what a defense can do. Take away the line or some of the playmakers and hes likely no longer the player he is now.

I'd suggest its good for both sides to sign this deal. Purdy's greatest value is where he is at, and San Fran needs him to stay. if Purdy ends up elsewhere it would be bad for both him and for the 49ers

49ers don't have a good offensive line and the one guy who is good is will be 37, anything you get from him past this point is gravy. They're getting ready to trade Deebo Samuel. Their other WR is coming of ACL surgery. They have a RB who has achilles tendonitis and may never be the same player again. Their TE is going to 32. The 49ers are getting ready to take a couple steps back on offense.

Losing Deebo isn't bad IMO. I think he's almost done anyway. You make good points about the others, but I think CMC will be ready to roll in 2025 and Aiyuk had an ACL and MCL tear, so while I think that is more important to RBs the next yea, and, Aiyuk may be slow to start 2025, but I think could be OK for most of 2025. I can see Pearsall taking another step in 2025, as he started to flash late in the season. Let's see how their OL shapes out going forward. I didn't look up their cap situation, but they may be involved in free agency for OL help if a good one is out there. Hopefully they draft some of both OL and WR.

I disagree with most of this. I would argue having a good line, coaching and weapons is good for any QB regardless of system. I’ve seen lots of QBs with oodles of talent fuzzle out quickly because of a lack of these things.

49ers don't have a good offensive line and the one guy who is good is will be 37, anything you get from him past this point is gravy. They're getting ready to trade Deebo Samuel. Their other WR is coming of ACL surgery. They have a RB who has achilles tendonitis and may never be the same player again. Their TE is going to 32. The 49ers are getting ready to take a couple steps back on offense.

Losing Deebo isn't bad IMO. I think he's almost done anyway. You make good points about the others, but I think CMC will be ready to roll in 2025 and Aiyuk had an ACL and MCL tear, so while I think that is more important to RBs the next yea, and, Aiyuk may be slow to start 2025, but I think could be OK for most of 2025. I can see Pearsall taking another step in 2025, as he started to flash late in the season. Let's see how their OL shapes out going forward. I didn't look up their cap situation, but they may be involved in free agency for OL help if a good one is out there. Hopefully they draft some of both OL and WR.

he had the one 1400 yard season (I think) and then he had a season where he got around 900 yards but likely would have been over 1000 yards if he played the whole year.

other than that hes been nothing special. I suspect its a case where they'd have to overpay to keep him. so it may actually be smart for them to part ways with him now that he has come out and said he wants out.

Very much disagree. He may not be the same player now that he once was, but he was indeed special in his prime. Injuries were what prevented him from accumulating stats. On a per-play basis, he was a beast until he wasn't.

I’ve said this multiple times but if he were a 1st round pick as opposed to a 7th he wouldn’t get nearly the criticism he does. People just can’t separate the draft capital from what he’s actually done on the field in his short NFL career.

While I do think people have jumped off his bandwagon a little because of that 7th round stigma...I do think he benefits greatly from the Shanahan effect.

its a good offense with playmakers and a good line. This limits what a defense can do. Take away the line or some of the playmakers and hes likely no longer the player he is now.

I'd suggest its good for both sides to sign this deal. Purdy's greatest value is where he is at, and San Fran needs him to stay. if Purdy ends up elsewhere it would be bad for both him and for the 49ers

I do think Pearsall is ready for more action this year, so it might be a good time to unload Deebo..... maybe for someone that can plug and play on the O line? or just a draft pick

I think the larger issue this year in San fran was the holdout of Aiyuk and the large number of injuries they had this year. My opinion only. but I do think this is a far better team on paper than they performed at and for me this is the main reason why.

If the OL ranks as high as 14 by some metrics it's because of scheme, IMO. Trent Williams and Puni are the only above-average linemen they had and Williams didn't play much.

yes, but the team is not trading him in his prime. they are trading him today.

the contract reflects the player he was in his prime. and he is not producing at the level his contract is at. to that end, if a team will give you a reasonable offer, the smart move is to let him and that giant contract walk.

What I thought was really fair about the deal was he was not trying to do the "next man up is the highest paid man now" game. If he was hell bent on taking that position he had every right to dig in and expect to at least top $55M APY, could say especially so with the state income tax and cost of living he has to deal with.
