QB Cam Ward, TEN (3 Viewers)

Cam was not good today. Not good.

The offensive play calls were worst ever type and the blocking was terrible.

Pollard got every touch the first drive then pretty much crickets til the fourth.

One of the best screen RBs in the league, Spears didn't get any I don't think.

Dopey screens to chig and Dike that go nowhere and aren't blocked well.

Coaches did not do what they said they would, how the light sorta went on in the fourth Q last week and they'd build on that.

The WRs are not getting open. Well Van did a few times.

The middle is ripe for the taking every game and they don't use it until the fourth Q. Chig and Gunnar got some work late and that opened up Ayo to be the complimentary WR he is and they finally went back to Pollard who looked fine then too.

Ridley was out but how's he been that that's a big issue?
I don't see that they have a choice but to go to a Delanie Gates Coates Tony G offense.

Oliver was going to tough it out and return but didn't do he's probably back. He needs to play a good amount like mandatory. He trained as Ridley's backup all off-season and they need a dawg right now.

Ayo was pedestrian and needs to feed off Gunnar or Oliver and make big boy catches again. He is codependent complimentary for sure. Every game same thing w him.

Dike and Lockett need to take their weak hand stuff to the bench or man up. Tell them to get pass interference penalties if need be. They are absolutely manhandled and it's just garbage. I feel for Cam. What's he to do when he sees that?

Cam needs to throw in the dirt again. I'd rather that than dumb decisions and forced things. Make a statement. I see you and none of you are open. There it's at your feet. He did it all camp and preseason and some in weeks 1 and 2.

Coach has no choice but to change at WR or he'll be fired. Vrabel is coming to town. The world just saw his top pick stink. He has to have a standard of get open or else. (The wimpiness just kills me- have you ever played sports?) I don't care if Spears and Pollard play WR or a CB does. Get open or sit. This is ridiculous.

People are probably correctly saying Cam should have run often. They weren't open, ya gotta run kid.

I saw a Levis Willis rookie Eli Manning vibe today that really made me angry. Do not break this kid. Sit him or sub WRs til it clicks. There's no attitude to this offense other than chumps. Trade for a big back for all I care. Get an attitude. I'm terrified of him becoming Carr or Couch. We finally have a dude with tons of talent. Do not wreck him!

Cam Ward completed 26-of-38 attempts for 222 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the Titans’ Week 6 loss against the Raiders.

It was the rookie’s third touchdown pass in his first six games. Ward was under constant pressure, as per usual, taking six sacks and avoiding a half dozen more. Ward appeared almost surprised in the rare moments when he operated from a clean pocket against the Raiders. He lost Calvin Ridley to a hamstring injury in the first half, forcing Ward to rely on check-down targets like Chig Okonkwo and his running backs for much of the second half. Ward, held to 5.8 yards per pass attempt against the Raiders, will only be viable in superfelx formats next week against the Patriots.

@Uncle Leo better runningbacks? Sure. Better weapons overall? NOPE.

Again, the read I got goign into the draft is of Dart/Sanders/Ward, Ward had the best chance to be elite but he could also be a bust. Sanders had the highest floor, but had a very low ceiling as a QB (think more athletic Teddy Bridgewater/Chad Pennington). Dart had qualities where he could be a really good QB, but he had comps to Brock Purdy/early Josh Allen in terms of heroball/bad INTs in college.

Cam Ward is currently on pace for 3120 passing yards on 55% CMP and 8 TDs to 11 INTs and 67 sacks with a Titans team projected to win under 3 games

For reference, here are the rookie seasons of the last 3 1st overall pick QBs

2024 Caleb Williams: 3541 yards and 63% CMP with 20 TDs to 6 INT and 68 sacks with a 5-12 record

2023 Bryce Young (17 game pace): 3057 yards on 60% CMP and 12 TDs to 11 INTs with a 2-14 record in real life

2021 Trevor Lawrence: 3641 yards on 60% CMP and 12 TDs to 17 INTs and 32 sacks with a 3-14 record

Interestingly comparing to Will Levis last year, his 17 game pace was 2962 yards on 63% CMP and 18 TDs to 17 INTs with 58 sacks and a 3-14 on pace record. Cam Ward is also by far the least productive rusher of the 5 with a pace of 102 yards, less than half of next to last place (Levis with 260)

McCoy said next to nothing at his presser. We waited a day to be told they'll see what Cam does well and do that.

Albert Breer was on Jared Stillman minutes ago. It's a good get for the mad dog Jim rome type Nashville guy.
Jared went on a rant about how the Jets and Browns and Giants and losing teams just throw the next guy in there and hope for the best meanwhile winning teams sit them. He added Darnold and Jones success elsewhere and ....that's what Jared does.

Breer said not enough gets said about how important the environment is for the rookie QB. More than anything, the Titans need to address that. Right now there's obviously been significant change.

Before that he said (but it kinda works as a followup)
McCoy has had pocket passers and mobile quarterbacks and even the option QB in Tim Tebow. When he says he'll adjust to suit the QB, he really does have that track record.

Earlier today Jared played a clip of Callahan saying they watched Cam in college and they incorporated some of that but felt the Titans already had a lot of those plays so essentially their tape review told them to call these plays and do these things. Jared and his guest said they certainly haven't done that except maybe that fourth quarter in Arizona and a drive last week. So it's been a lot of repeats from last week in doing what Callahan said they would. McCoy's presser kind of emphasizes that rather than says we'll go a different way. Bottom line is it's not that complicated since they are so absolutely awful- Cam likes the TE. He panics to the TE. He makes big plays to the TE. They weren't using the TE but for an H-back fullback role.
Ill make another post

There has been a ton of talk today about what is wrong and it always comes back to the line (not much can be changed) and the wide receivers.
Restrepo has a sorta cult following
Oliver has a small following but he's Ridley's replacement and likely to play WR this week. How much is debatable from like ten snaps or most of them.
Prosche has come up too

Today has been regurgitating everything all offseason.
What's a bad coach do? What's a good coach do? What will McCoy instill right away and what changes will be eventual?

I think the reliable accountable rarely ever make a mistake 5-7th WRs look quite rosy right now.
Teams do not bench so many and alter the depth chart that much is an extremely fair sentiment
BUT
Remember Elic and Dike didn't earn their spots. They were pushed into them. Elic was probably 4th and gonna be a key sub and starter was a surprise. Dike was down the list and struggling mostly til he made a big play and that happened most days of practice.
Oliver was starting with Lockett and Ridley. Prosche first and then Restrepo, they often looked better than Lockett. Restrepo had his struggles and was pretty firm as the 8th WR and not likely to make the team which he didn't. He's on the PS.

Week six- do they go back in time? They can't. Well they can't not. It's been a recurring debate all day.

Cam needs reliable WRs is said by all- who though and how to get there?

It's possible there's dramatic change this week or it's trickled in and slow. That Callahan did not go with his camp starters really is a big monkey wrench here that idk that we've seen much of for any team. Ridley (oh so likely) out offers a perspective too. He's the WR1 and the leader. Everything speaks to change and guys stepping up. But how?

I would say Titans WRa should sit for FF (if any) but it'll be a nice day for DFS and Gunnar looks the most promising for predictions.

Kevin Dyson was McCoy's WR in college when McCoy was a QB and he says the screens are all but gone. Occasional per normal but they've kept in touch and followed each other and he's certain McCoy will get rid of that and Cam's gonna be throwing.
That's probably 70 percent of the passes to Dike and 50-60 to Chig. So now what?

As I've said, McCoy had an Antonio Gates offense and mentioned the TE usage.

His WRs were big and they'd throw it high or deep to Malcolm Floyd. That's very much like Cam in the summer. That suits Elic and Oliver very well.

Woodhead was his back used a good amount and maybe Spears in that role.

All these plays are in and have been used some. Not expecting a major change so much as trying to guess his we'll do what works.

His "players play, let's not talk about the plays" quote needed to be said. The offense did stink. The play calls were awful. None of the players seemed to say I'm gonna do well anyway and make this work.

Most? 5?6? of the drives started with a pass to Gunnar.
They were running well and got a FG. Had a dopey screen again.
Short mid deep on second drive all in what looked like a concerted effort to get the ball to Dike. He looked better for sure but still a bit off. Progress though.
They were up 10-3 late first Q.
Absolute garbage after that. Like bad bad wow you are the worst team in football, no the Jets are, no we are.

I have said 100 times how they didn't continue regular normal development and process from summer with the WRs and how it's hurting right away and unless magic happens it's gonna get worse. Welp we are there.

Most teams have a shutdown CB and the Pats had Gonzalez who blanked Elic in their (close to) all rookie sets early and then he shadowed Van. 2-3 short darts to Van looked like to keep Gonzalez on him as ya do. He shut him down.

No one stepped up.
Chig was shut down and even shifted outside some but he ran his lazy routes and couldn't shake a corner with that.
Gunnar involves a common classic TE run, box out, force it in type play.

Elic had a play here n there but where was he the rest of the game and did the CB fall asleep?

They went from Ridley being shut down and playing the rookies and Lockett and Chig all of whom can't get open to playing Van and doing the same.

As I've said all summer and early- they have to play Oliver and possibly DMR. DMR probably gets some work if Chig is traded as many predict.
What I've been saying is yeah y'all got work to do but these are dawgs that'll rip the ball out of thin air and somehow ya know Moss is smiling. Both of them were UDFAs to make the team and get starts late and then had real good camps with Oliver doing great and all ready to possibly shine but definitely contribute in year two.

Forcing the rookies to start when they weren't ready (except Gunnar) messed up their development and shut off the year two development.
Stupid. Absolutely stupid. You can't watch and think anything other than OMG who coaches this team? (Possibly the GM does)

Sooo Cam, Cam thread. What's he to do?
Well he's working harder than any QB going thru every progression in every play hoping someone anyone will get open and either sacked or phew someone did get open finally. His head is like a tank turret and I'll bet $ Kurt Warner will review tomorrow and say how the offense has no quick outs or hot reads and isn't helping him.

Every third quarter now, he starts to look like oh what are ya doing? Is Levis' ghost on the field? What is happening!!!

I think there's patience and then what the Titans ask of him. He's reacting as any human does when their patience is tested, some good, some bad, some ugly and obvious frustration.

Every now and then is an OMG throw.
Announcers said his feet were better often today and how McCoy walks by him and says feet all the time.

After the game, hosts were talking of Mendoza and do the Titans have to (be the ol Browns) draft another and every single one is saying we don't know on Cam. Seven games in and all his targets are playing so bad that we have no idea.

Van, Ridley, and Oliver would have run the right routes with the right spacing and right timing and we'd know a heckuva lot more.
Elic seems made for a complimentary spark and he'd probably have come in and done just that. Maybe now we'd be saying he should replace one of them.

Why is Lockett on the team? He's gotta go. Thanks for being a great dude but one catch per game and no ST...see ya.
Mason Kinsey- the ninth WR in camp is who subbed for Van. Vrabel smiled and pointed and I swear it was to tell Gonzalez year cover him. The ninth can't be in the WR1 spot!

The Titans probably get Oliver back since he was close this week but we don't know if it'll be an initial return week of just ST.
They need to trade for an average WR now. He needs to spend a week with WR coach Tolbert and just go play.
They won't.
They're pretending Borgonzi has done well this year and gonna let him about manage an expansion team with 100+ mil next year.
Sooo they need to go two TE. It should not be debatable! If it's the only offense that you're comfortable guys will predictably get open and do their job, then there isn't another option. Maybe then we'll see how Cam is.

Since they'll do dopey stuff instead, can Spears and Pollard line up as WRs on occasion?

It's maddening.

Trevor Seiman took some snaps this week in practice. Why? Why? Why!!! And the reporters said he looked horrible. Well it ain't gonna be better with a worse QB.

I hate these seasons.
I swear just grab an elderly high school coach and let him live out his dream. I guarantee this random dude coaches better and there's order. The restraint Vrabel showed today by not laughing and mocking was tremendous

Kind of shocked to hear this talk.

I am losing hope. I didn't watch the game today, but the highlights looked awful. Maybe Cam isn't as good as we thought. Maybe the Titans are just flap jacks. Either way, no buenos

@LawFitz
Yeah that's fairly common right now

The WRs are getting mocked on social media as worst group ever, worst starters ever and...it's as bad as can be.

McCoy seems like a very calm sort of oh we'll just tweak a few things type.
Maybe they needed a hammer to come down?

I mentioned the rookies and first pass to Gunnar. Some have been discussing the RB usage. A lot seems like they decided beforehand and didn't just play the game and flow.
Are they worse?

One longtime reporter was discussing all the Titans prior rookie QBs and how it's been constant that they need to have a better team around the rookie and that other ten players need to play better. This seems the worst but ...didn't much care for the debate of which is worse. It's just awful

Ward did have his highest rating, yards, and a couple other highs yesterday for the season.

He started the game 10 of 11 and with throwaways discarded you could probably get up to 15 or so.

Titans only had six plays in the third quarter(coach said 8, maybe including punts)

Five sacks

To date most of his turnovers are the ball slipping or tipped passes
