QB Daniel Jones, IND (4 Viewers)

And here we go… I am sure Jones is miles ahead of AR on his understanding (and maturity) of how NFL offenses look and that’s probably refreshing to coach. As we know when live bullets start flying is when Jones can start declining. With a functioning offense maybe he will fair better than we have seen however.
In Jones defense, this is BY FAR the best OL and WR/TE group he's ever had. Not saying he's suddenly gonna be Baker Mayfield, but if its a fair abttle, I'd be shocked if Joens didn't win it over Richardson, barring a Josh Allen level turnaround in his accuracy. Honestly, I think we're a year away from Richardson's agent starting to think about maybe seeing if he can play TE.

If he cannot hold up at QB, he would last less at TE. I am not burying Jones, just referencing what we have seen from him before. He certainly could turn on the switch in a better environment and I agree that he will be the week one starter, in fact I would be surprised otherwise considering Steichen is fighting to keep his job. Jones has legs as well and has a better make-up currently to keep the offense on schedIke.

So in start one quarterback leagues are you drafting him?
As a backup?
Or bye week filler?
Would prefer to leave him on the waiver wire, but if I had to use him one week, I guess claiming him wouldn't be terrible.

Anthony Richardson will heal from his shoulder injury with rest. Some of you are talking like Daniel Jones will start for the Colts in 2025. I don't see it.

As a Jonathan Taylor owner and fan, I'm just thrilled they got Jones. I think Richardson is gonna get another real shot here to be a thing, but if he fails or gets hurt, then the change shouldn't effect Taylor at all. Honestly, Jones might be better for Taylor. Imo

I think Anthony Richardson has to improve significantly as a passer to keep the job. He can't do that while he rests.

Having to rest is a big setback for him right now.

@32BeatWriters
“Richardson would either have to look outstanding in camp (especially in joint practices and the preseason) to get the job, or Jones would have to totally lose control of the lead. Jones has looked pretty solid so far from what the media has seen, so it's hard for me to imagine that he's not the favorite right now.”
I think Richardson being sore and having to rest is a big hit in the QB competition.

Jones just has to look competent.

Daniel Jones has never had anywhere near this talent around him. He had some respectable games with far less around him, so there is legit reason to think we might have never seen his best until this year. And Richardson can't throw the ball accurately or stay healthy. That seems like 2 of the biggest strikes you could have as an NFL QB.

I don’t know about the Richardson part but this part about Jones is worth understanding further and to consider higher on the list come draft day.

He's had 2 seasons already and cannot stay on the field which hinders his growth and he's already not accurate and looked at by some (MoP) as a bust the moment they drafted him
ARich is behind where he should be right now

Enter Daniel Jones with a lot of starts under his belt, led the Giants to the Playoffs one year as I recall and many feel he is going to a better organization although I'm not sold on that
I think Jones has a terrific chance to win the starting QB job and put up a respectable season even if the Colts don't make the Playoffs
jones is not a great QB but he is likely getting his 2nd chance and he has a lot more seasoning at this point vs ARich, I see the Colts bring Richardson in off the bench where he can carve out a role as the back up for right now until he proves he can handle the starting QB position on this team. I don't believe he will beat out Daniel Jones when training camp begins

my opinion is just that, my opinion and nothing more.
Appreciate your post, got my attention

I am sure we will see both play at some point this season. They should really see if Cousins can be had reasonably as there is a lot of wasted surrounding talent on offense with their current QB room.

Nah. It's gonna be AR. But Jones will play more. AR will be hurt/benched at some point. I give the O/U at 4.5 games.
According to their head coach, It's going to be Jones.
WHAAAAT?!!? Holy cow! EVERYONE I've heard on the radio here agreed that it HAS to be AR. Jones has done nothing to ourperform AR. AR is their shiny new QB! Wow! The fans here are gonna go ballistic! But maybe this helps AR in the long run. Sit, learn, master your craft, and let that fire burn. I'm honestly shocked!

It's like the guys that make these decisions really don't watch much football.

I wonder if the coaches spoke with the pass catchers to get their input before making the decision? Because honestly, I've not seen Jones run away with it. All the local beat writers have echoed the same.

If the fans like winning football games, Jones is the answer. Jones is a competent (not good) NFL QB. Richardson is not.

You've got Pittman, Downs, AD Mitchell, Pierce, Warren. I mean my god at the pass catchers.

Jones won't lift up a franchise as QB. Richardson will weigh one down.

Yep. And Steichen needs to win football games this year or he will be fired. That's what this is about.

Jones was clearly the right call, and I couldn't agree more with the bolded. I think a similar effect will happen with the Jets and Steelers this year, where I think Rodgers just weighs a franchise down at this point, albeit for different reasons than Richardson.

Richardson has looked awful this preseason, including getting himself blindsided on a routine play a college freshman shouldn't screw up, and I would also wonder if there is still a bad taste in everyone's mouth (coaches and teammates) about that time last year when he (the QB, and supposed to be team leader) tapped out of a game because he was tired, which is fine for a RB/WR, but not a QB.

I also wonder, and sorry if its a bit morbid, but if Jim Irsay passing away played a role, as Irsay seemed like a big Richardson ally.

For how far Richardson is out of favor.

Steichen won't even commit to a future in Indianapolis for Richardson

James Boyd

I asked Shane Steichen if he sees a future for Anthony Richardson, who’s been benched twice, to start again for the #Colts:“That’s hard to say. Obviously, Daniel (Jones) is our starter right now. And if something happens to Daniel at some point, AR gets another opportunity.”

Does not inspire a lot of confidence. I do wonder how different things would look had they sat him his first year. I know AR has earned criticism, but the coach could have worded that a bit better. Doesn’t really help anyone providing that answer.

Honestly...I thought the 'tap out' thing was a death knell for him.

And this may sound a bit dikkish of me, but a dislocated pinky kept him off the football field? When he was fighting for his QB1 life?

You know, I hadn't thought about it.

There's definitely that pressure from the top of the organization to stick with/make sure the draft pick works out. Irsay's passing may have very well taken that out of the equation.

As a long time Daniel Jones antagonist, he might have a chance for success in IND He does not have the make up for the NYC vibe. I still think he is a bad passer. But I could see him having a couple of above average years in IND.
