QB Deshaun Watson, CLE (2 Viewers)

Cleveland promoted Thompson-Robinson to QB2 over Jameis. This news and the trading of Cooper make it seem like they are inches away from calling the Watson experiment over

I'd rush to your waivers and pick up Thompson in your superflex leagues if you have roster space

I’d think the opposite. They don’t want Jameis active as possible competition for Watson.

They’re doubling down on Watson being the unquestioned starter.

And the Browns give up a kick return TD as I type this.

Do you think they're doubling down on Watson for '25? Is Cleveland locked into that? I can't imagine the fan base's reaction to that if Watson's play doesn't 360

With the money they owe him I think they’ll give him every opportunity to turn it around.

Wouldn’t surprise me if they try to trade out of a top pick as well in hopes to recoup some of the draft capital they wasted acquiring him.

How are the injury guarantees? From watching on TV: that was his achilles tearing.
Yeah it actually seemed visible.

Gotta assume he's done for this season. Browns issue (effectively forced to play him because of the cost for him) may have just resolved itself.

Yes id call it the worst move a team ever made, in any sport, ever. Compounded by restructuring him twice.

Between the money/cap spent and the picks they gave up, honestly what else could be worse?

Feel terrible for the guy.
Me, too. He messed up IRL and never regained form on the field, which might've salvaged some public rehabilitation. The public mob is a nasty bunch once they turn on you. Maybe I'm soft and quick to forgive
I was being sarcastic. He’s very clearly a terrible human being, and has also proven to be sub-par on the field as well. Good riddance.

Looking at your avatar, for some reason, it makes me chuckle to read this post in Clay Davis' voice.

I have been wondering if there has ever been another player in history that got hurt and people could be happy about it and not seem like an *******.

Being a public figure would suck in the social media age

Especially if you like committing sexual assault.

Srsly?
Seriously

Kobe raped a chick and is now revered by almost everyone. Mike Tyson did the same, spent time in jail, and is a cultural icon. There are countless other examples of maliciousness that have been forgiven. Why not forgive Watson? Watson has had it worse publicly than any sports figure I can remember

Especially so if you suck as a person and feel like being a superstar exempts you from having to be a decent person. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Not glossing over Kobe and Tyson because you have a point there but Watson has something like two dozen sexual assault allegations.

Contract is fully guaranteed. Cleveland has no outs. Think they have insurance for time missed.

Gotta pay him, but at least they can officially move on.

Well they should have done that a while ago. What makes anybody think the owner will go for it a year from now?

Vick deserves an honorable mention. He appeared to be a different person returning to the league after Dungy's mentorship.

Couldn't do it due to the salary cap, now may be able to with relief from insurance. It'll never come out, but this is one of the primary reasons he kept starting.

Does that apply to the salary cap?

He's done for the year.

Please let's keep the discussion to Football and how it affects the Browns and what they'll do and for Watson's on field status for 2025.

Unless he retires and gives some money back (lol, good luck with that), Cleveland will likely have to carry him on IR next year and cut him in 2026 because of that massive dead money next year. Assuming that’s an Achilles tear, he likely won’t be ready to start 2025 anyway.

Can potentially restructure him in some way to work around the cap hits in ‘26 & ‘27. Supposedly since he settled his most recent allegation, the alleged victim won’t cooperate with the NFL so the odds of him getting suspended again and voiding his remaining guarantees doesn’t look likely.

Odd. Rodgers was in game 1 but Cousins was injured around game 6 if memory serves. This says to me that he has a good chance to play next year if the Browns want him to.

True, Cousins tore his at almost at this exact time last year.

But I’m assuming they definitely won’t want him playing again.

If Deshaun plays ball, and there's no reason he shouldn't, the Browns will milk this, as they should, cause he's never playing a down for this team again.

Think they are having that conversation with him tonight? I think they just might, haha
