QB Jameis Winston, NYG (7 Viewers)

"Simply not talented enough to justify the pick in the first place", even without the character concerns? Do you watch football? He throws too many picks over the middle but he's a stud, and he's never even dedicated an offseason to football yet.
I think this is what you are being sold, and you're falling for it. He was a mess this year. He got fat, played terrible football the first half of virtually every game, and was absolutely evicerated, looked downright comical at times, against Oregon when it counted the most.
He had his problems, but he also makes throws and reads coverages that translate directly to the NFL in a way that Mariota hasn't proven. You're 100% projecting with Mariota.

Look, I'm an Oregon guy, and even I can't say with any confidence what Mariota will wind up looking like as a pro. I'd take him in a heartbeat over Jameis, but that has less to do with my confidence in Mariota's success than it does my confidence that Jameis will be a bust. And that's assuming he stays out of trouble long enough to establish himself as a bust.

Looking more and more like the correct move for TB is trade out of this spot.

Another creepy aspect to this is that when Casher was asked by the cop if there was sexual talk between anyone in the car on the way to Jameis' house he said no - this is after he said that as soon as she got inside she went to Jameis' room and started giving him oral.

So we're supposed to believe that she showed no signs of sexual attraction to Jameis but the first thing she does when she gets inside the apartment is to get on her knees and start giving him a BJ - with the lights on and the door open no less.

Eh, weird stuff happens. My advice for convincing somebody who was unconvinced of his guilt would be to stick to the legitimate evidence at hand. Don't reach. It's much more convincing to read confessions and changes in testimony than it is to read speculation about motive. The former things are actual legal evidence, the latter is just motive/speculation/etc.

edit* All of this is legal evidence, it's just that some of it is more convincing than others. My bad.

This isn't about Mariota - if a team doesn't believe in him that's fine. You don't take an alleged rapist who ballooned to 262 lbs. last year simply because he can be good when he feels like it at #1.

Fair enough. It's difficult because so many things in their stories don't add up for me. Let's hope this goes to court and everyone involved gets a chance to testify under oath.

So I guess when cstu said he was "letting it go" that meant all in.

Now tied with news-bot Faust. I didn't think that gap could be closed. Well done, sir.

I have some catching up to do.

Can't wait for Winston to make all these people shut the eff up with ludicrous amounts of touchdown passes.

Oh, what, I'm a rapist? Touchdown to Evans.

What's that? Another crab legs joke? Touchdown to Austin Sefarian Jenkins.

I lost half my money in a civil suit? So what, I'm still a millionaire. Touchdown to Vincent Jackson.
This is the exact mentality that gave Aaron Hernandez such a long leash and get away with a host of crap before murder. But you people are so invested in a team and its laundry, you'll shrug off rape, murder, child abuse, anything so long as your guy scores touchdowns.
The Bucs have been losing for a very long time.

Casher's police interview doesn't match up to his affidavit or Darby's affidavit and police interview.

In Casher's affidavit, as well as Darby's affidavit/interview, he says that he went into the room to try to have sex with her (see if she'd 'go to the floor') while Jameis was having sex with her she told him to get out and then got up and turned off the light.

However, in Casher's police interview he said that after he tried to have sex with her she said get out and he left but stood outside the door and continued to watch. Then he started filming them have sex and after a little while she saw him and then got up and turned off the light. This is about about the 3:30 mark in his police interview.
I'm so confused. So, she's supposedly unable to consent because of being drugged, but is able to tell these other guys to get out?

She remembers in detail:

While there, a man who she believed to have been Winston "offered [Kinsman] a shot of an unknown liquor, which she consumed." She eventually ended up in a cab with Winston and two of his teammates, Chris Casher and Ronald Darby. Back at Winston and Casher's apartment, she says that Winston took her into his bedroom, removed her clothes, and raped her despite her protests.
The complaint adds a new wrinkle to this story: "Darby also entered the room but told Winston, 'Dude, she is telling you to stop,'" it reads. In response, Kinsman says, "Winston picked her up in a fireman's carry, walked her into his bathroom, deposited her onto the hard floor, and locked the door." Kinsman says that Darby then left.
How does she remember these things if she was drugged?! Keep in mind no traces of anything were found in her system.

None of us know exactly what happened, and we're never going to know. My educated guess is it's somewhere in between what Kinsman is saying and what Winston, Darby, and Casher are saying.

Usually is somewhere between the alleged victim and perpetrator's stories.

Even presuming his innocence there's enough red flags with him that as a titan fan I'm really hoping Tampa takes him so wiz isn't tempted.

As a Jets fan I'm of the same mindset. Obviously the team needs a franchise QB and from a football perspective I'd have very little worries - I'd worry more about Mariota from that perspective - but being near NYC and with some, at best, questionable decisions he's already made, I don't think adding Winston would be a great idea for a new regime. I'm hoping he's gone - and I'm not a hater (because right now none of us really knows what happened) so I won't be rooting against him to fail - I just don't want to absorb that risk.

Doesn't really fit since Winston is generally thought of as a cerebral prospect on the field, not just a big armed gunslinger.
Sure it does. An NFL player spends less than 1% of the year actually on the field. It's the other 99% that is the problem for Winston. You can be a coach killer even if you don't bust "on the field." This cerebral player throws tons of picks. Best case he's Cam Newton, worst case he's Jamarcus Russell. I want no part of him, especially in my 2QB league where I own the 1, 4, and 5.

oof.
She...allegedly...made a post about Jameis once on Facebook that said "my QB > your QB" but then claims she didn't know who she had sex with or who he is.

Do I necessarily believe she made that post? Not really. But then again I don't believe the Casher one either.

Cam Newton? That you would even make that comparison shows how unequipped you are to have this discussion. Completely different skill-sets.

Weird how a guy who was twice accused of rape and had the discretion to publicly yell "#### her right in the #####" after the accusations comes under scrutiny for his character. Must be race.

That's hilarious because it's completely fake - it was written by 'Ericaakinsmann'.

You'd think she'd know how to spell her own last name.

Keep trying, FSU fans.

He's not loved there because he chose to go to a Florida school instead of an Alabama one and consistently refers to Florida as his "home state." It's also a town in Alabama that is 85% white. You do the math.

He's not the first player from Alabama to play for a non-Alabama school - Terrell Owens played in Tennessee because like Winston he wanted to play multiple sports. Was he hated in his home town of Alexander City?

Race doesn't stop the white people there from liking other black players.

TO played for a non rival.

He stopped Auburn from winning a national title - he should have got huge points for that having lived in hardcore Alabama territory.

I know your reading comprehension is better than this, and I know it's too early for you to be sloshed already. The player comparisons based on race are bad due to skill-set, completely separate issue from the character concerns.

Winston committed to Alabama first, then flipped to FSU his senior year. The common thought among Bama fans is that Damyune Craig, who was the FSU coach recruiting Winston at the time, convinced him that a black QB would never be embraced at Alabama. His flip was not taken well. Winning a NC as a freshman only made it worse.

I meant along the lines of cam having tons of baggage off the field coming into the NFL. But whatever.

Cam had nowhere near this amount of baggage.

Erica Kinsman never offered to settle.

“The facts that Mr. Cornwell chose not to disclose are that it was he, himself, who reached out to our client’s former counsel Patricia Carroll to discuss paying off our client. Patricia Carroll didn’t even know who David Cornwell was until he called. Mr. Cornwell then himself flew down from Atlanta to negotiate with Ms. Carroll.

“Settlement discussions were immediately unproductive as Cornwell was crude and insulting going so far as to say ‘your client likes to [expletive] football players.’ When told that the client’s main concern was not money but that Winston be held accountable for his actions, Cornwell threatened to sue our client and her parents for civil racketeering in an effort to intimidate them into staying quiet. After learning about Mr. Cornwell’s unprofessional conduct at that meeting from Ms. Carroll, our office has decidedly not engaged with Mr. Cornwell at all or anyone else on Mr. Winston’s behalf.

Although it our understanding that settlement was discussed, no authorized demands were made of Mr. Winston.

Winston's own father said he needed a babysitter to stay out of trouble.

http://www.foxsports.com/college-football/story/jameis-winston-dad-wants-fsu-to-provide-constant-handler-051214

His father, Antonor Winston, told USA Today he's working with the university on how to best manage the attention around his son and would like some form of security and supervision around his son at all times moving forward.

"He's supposed to have somebody around him 24/7," Antonor Winston told USA Today. "He's a Heisman Trophy winner so (he's) definitely not supposed to be by (himself)."

Florida State has added additional security to protect Winston on athletic trips, athletic director Stan Wilcox said in a statement to the paper, but it raises the question of how much is enough with an athlete as high-profile as Winston.

Antonor Winston said the latest incident has made it clear to his son that the spotlight on him is growing only larger, and he hopes it alerts FSU that additional attention is needed.

"We hope so," Antonor Winston said. "Not only him. I think it should show the university and us, I think we probably kind of dropped the ball on that a little bit."

"It's just a different standard for (Jameis) and Johnny (Manziel)," says Antonor Winston. "He's just got to endure, just make better decisions and he's just got to endure that."

Regarding the soda theft and the BB gun vandalism:

"Nobody would have ever heard of that at all," Antonor Winston says.

Nope…he writes a a big check and both live happily ever after.
She owes it to every other rape victim to take this all the way.

Put Casher and Darby on the stand and let the jury decide who to believe.
No she doesn't. If she's telling the truth, she owes it to herself to make her life as comfortable as possible. You first statement is why we have the gov't in place.

And believe me, when she's offered 10 million her attorney won't be taking no for an answer either.

Her attorney is going to do what's best for her.

Which is almost certainly taking the money.

The government decided there was not enough evidence for a jury to decide that Winston is guilty "beyond a reasonable doubt" so he wasn't charged.

No one was ever forced to testify under oath to what happened that night. If rape victims are to be taken more seriously then taking this all the way to trial is start.

Cappy can probably chime in here. I would assume that once there's a large settlement on the table, the lawyer that took this on a contingency basis has met the bar and if it goes to court the client is risking having to shell out more to the lawyer percentage wise if they don't clear the settlement offer amount.

Exactly. Only two people know what happened. The truth is somewhere in the middle. The crusade for rape victims is better staked to another case.

this thread could end up leading to the first crowdsourced prosecution in history. cstu and prost doing some brilliant stuff in here, stuff they just don't teach in law school.
