He came into a perfect situation and now his situation isn't perfect. In fact, it's pretty much on the opposite spectrum. And yes, playing like crap when there is real pressure does matter. Nobody ever doubted his throwing ability, but a lot of doubts about his processing and decision making. That showed up huge in those last two games and that has been the norm for him during the entire rest of his career.

I guess when Seattle shows any ability to draft OL, then I might put some stock in those extra picks. They may change the OL, but based on past performance, that doesn't mean they will get better there. Cross was a decent pick but he was top 10.

Yeah, I sew Darnold’s early career. I saw Geno’s early career on that same craptastic team. A hilarious comment considering they had the same career trajectory in the same bad organization.

I also see Geno’s schitzo 2024 and Darnold play at an extremely high level, despite the MIN offense being not particularly well suited for Darnold’s game. Darnold is moving to a WCO, which is a perfect fit (it’s why the Niners brought him in).

I’m assuming the Seahawks use draft picks/cap room to improve the interior OL, but at the same time their offense won’t be as deep shot reliant as MIN’s was - which means quicker decisions and less time “seeing ghosts” because he won’t be expected to hold the ball as long.

As such I see no validity to your comment that Geno ~> Darnold was somehow a downgrade for the Seahawks.

Also note the offensive style change because it matters. MIN was a deep shot home run hitting offense. That’s not great for a poor OL who can’t protect long enough.

Have to disagree here. WCO relies more on processing and quick decisions. Sam's strength is throwing the intermediate and deep routes. I think it's actually a worse offense for him.

I actually wish the guy well despite him now playing for that despicable franchise. Hard not to root for someone who has overcome the adversity he has in his still young career.

But that was behind a Vikings OL that ranked #2 in pass block win rate. He's going to be pressured a lot more next year in Seattle. The Seahawks' OL last year ranked 30th in pressure rate allowed. They've ranked terribly in pressure rate for several years, and it has plagued ther passing game consistently.

Darnold is either gonna have to get a lot better at passing the ball under pressure or his completion rate is probably going to dip because he's being pressured too much in 2025.

Also Geno was a weekly headache in FF - one week he’s 300+, the next he’s unstable. Consistency matters in both NFL and FF

They've ranked terribly in pressure rate for several years, and it has plagued ther passing game consistently.

Darnold is either gonna have to get a lot better at passing the ball under pressure or his completion rate is probably going to dip because he's being pressured too much in 2025.

I like Warren Sharp, but he was also pretty bearish on Baker last year.

But he's not an upgrade to Geno. Sam showed his true colors in week 18 and round one of the playoffs. No longer has Jefferson, Addison and Hockenson to throw to. JSN is a nice receiver, but Jefferson is elite. Plus Seahawks OL is not good in pass protection. Sam gonna be seeing ghosts again in 2025

Dismissing an entire season because of 1-2 games is a wild take. Especially after they lost - top OL.

A whole draft coming up with extra 2nd & 3rd picks, and a ton of cap room and you’re assuming the OL of SEA will be the same?

did anyone see Geno Smith early years? or just this last couple seasons when he's throwing into triple coverage in the redzone? He's been average at best.....Darnold strengths fit Kubiak/Shanny type offense. Don't worry about the o-line, clearly they are going to have some work still to come (Fries/draft)

I’m a Darnold shareholder x2 in 16-team SF leagues. He’s my QB2 in both. For the moment I’m reserving judgement on the Seattle OL & receiving corps because a lot will change between now and September.

Believe me, I’ll be the 1st one here to criticize them if they look the same come opening day. I’m skeptical that will be the case given their draft capital & cap room.

Wouldn’t be surprised by some in-draft trades for IOL & WR either.

Context is critical here - they both started off as Jets.

The Jets with young QBs have a habit of turning gold into tin like some sort of wacky reverse alchemists.

Some of the talking heads at the Athletic were saying Ryan Grubb's offense was a very bad fit for Seattle's personnel, especially the Oline. They mentioned the offense not being QB friendly (lack of play action, specifically) and how Geno was consistently forced to bail them out under immense pressure.

Now enter Klint Kubiak. We all know the Kubiak/Shanahan offenses are essentially the opposite of what I said above. Kubiak was the passing game coordinator with the 49ers when Darnold was there. If DK sticks around I can see this being the best situation Darnold has been in besides last year.

I'll put a stake in the ground here: Minus his QB whisperer coach and assuming the O-line and WR corp isn't upgraded considerably, I predict that Darnold's performance is more like his last two games as a Viking vs. all the games prior.
