QB Shedeur Sanders, CLE (1 Viewer)

I think we would all do well to remember that Ruggs, Rice and Shedeur are only the ones who got caught.

Suddenly, I have never been happier the Chargers moved to Los Angeles.

Addison? But still good point.
Thanks for the reminder. No excessive speeding, IIRC, but worth noting.
I’d much rather have my asset pulled over for excessive speeding than excessive drinking.

I once made an unusually speedy trip to Dallas.

That said, I had not just lost out on multiple millions of dollars, due in part to my behavior and a perceived arrogance and/or lack of maturity I'd shown.

Nor was I, at the time, trying to salvage some of the millions more that my future might still hold with the chance I still had. A chance where showing good judgment would help my cause and poor judgment could hurt it.

His previous ticket was for going 91 in a 65. That he didn't wise up after that, isn't a good look for him at all. I mean, I wised up after making my trip without event, without having suffered any negative consequences, realized how stupid it was. This guy? Gets caught, blows off court, and then goes out and does it even worse.

So yeah, though I admit to moments of stupid at that age too, I wasn't nearly that stupid.

I have to ask - if he wasn't Deion's son, and the only thing we knew about him was game film we could watch, would he have been drafted? I heard someone compare him to Lebron's son, and they said Bronny sucks and only made it to the NBA because of his father. Is this the same case?

You might be right, but the one trait for Sanders I like is his accuracty. Unfortunately his game has a lot of warts in other areas. Off the field stuff aside for Sanders, someone like Malik Willis has more upaide long term in my opinion. I thiink eventually Willis could be a late fantasy bloomer on a different team down the road. I don't see that with Sanders.

Yes, just looking at his numbers, they pop. He led the nation with a 74% completion rate. I can see that if he was only dumping off, but he was also 4th in the nation with 318 yards per game. One stat I found amusing though - how in the heck did he have -127 yards rushing? That's a guy not knowing when to give up on a play.

He’s definitely a kid, and kids make mistakes, but until he moves past he’ll never be a franchise quarterback and leader of grown men. He comes across as wholly immature and more than a little bit entitled. I would hate for him to be on the team I root for because he seems extremely unlikable from an accountability standpoint.

Keeps demonstrating he’s very bad at decision-making.
Yep. Between his "My Dad is Deion Sanders" attitude, his behavior and attitude prior to and during the draft and now this shows teams he hasn't learned a darn thing. This kid is close to radioactive for a guy who has to fight for a spot in the NFL.

I think the two biggest issues are:

1) It’s Cleveland

2) The likely potential of Deion criticizing your coaching.
I think the biggest issue is his lack of complete QB skills. To me that overrides everything else. But when you factor in all the peripheral stuff it is maginified.

Which includes making smart decisions and learning from your mistakes. This guy has shown he's unwilling to do that because, apparently, "My Dad is Deon Sanders", IMO.

I will take your word for it. I have not seen him play a whole lot.

What intrigues me is the pedigree. I haven’t come to an opinion on his play other than respecting yours.

The knee-jerk reaction to him getting a speeding ticket is wild.

You can’t not be an adrenaline junkie to play professional sports. 100 miles an hour in luxurious mall crawler feels like 45.
what about reacting to him getting multiple speeding tickets? skipping court for the 1st one and almost immediately going and getting another one?

the guy is a knucklehead. yes, that can be worked on but that is yet another hurdle for him becoming a franchise QB for an NFL team.

Nothing wrong with raising an eyebrow but at the end of the day, after a paltry fine and two years these tickets will be gone forever.

Separate discussion, but I’m fundamentally against giving any player the “face of the franchise” or “the franchise qb” moniker.

We always act surprised when we hear stories like this. We think stuff like "They have so much to lose!", "Haven't they heard of Henry Ruggs or Rashee Rice?!?!", "How could they be so stupid?" etc.

Beyond the fact that time softens the memory of our own decision making at 23 years old; I wonder a few things about our decision making.

How many of us:
1) Exercise for 150 minutes a week?
2) Are at an unhealthy weight?
3) Have been saving for retirement?
3 b) Since we got our first job?
4) Eat five servings of fruits and vegetables per day?
4 b) Think green peppers on pizza counts as a vegetable?
5) Sleep at least seven hours per night?
6) Phone scroll in bed?
7) Drink alcohol?
8) Drink caffeine?
9) Meditate?
10) Practice mindfulness?
11) See our doctor at least once per year?
11 b) See our doctor as soon as we recognize something is "off"?
12) Have life insurance?
etc.
ETA: 13) Drive more than nine MPH above the speed limit?
ETA 2.0: 14) Driven after having "Only a few drinks"?

Do we have any less to lose than Shedeur, Ruggs or Rashee?
Fwiw, I wouldn’t want most of us to be the starting quarterback for my NFL team.

Also, other than 2,5,9, and 14 - (13 is a sometimes thing)

With the advent of Waze, which you can have active even without a destination input, telling you where every police officer and camera is, well before you encounter them, there's absolutely no excuse for getting popped for speeding or running red lights. Not a one.

Running a red light or stop sign by accident is scary. That’s how people die. I don’t recall ever running a red light, but I have run a stop sign accidentally at least once in my lifetime and realized it afterward. That’s some terrifying sheet right there. People killed in car crashes are probably hit that way a lot. All it takes is one mistake.

@JohnnyU , I had no idea you were such an outlaw! Turn yourself in to the nearest jail!

Honest question, has any quarterback that’s gone on to become an absolute rock for their franchise, exhibited this type of nonsense behavior?

I’m probably too quick to judge, but I wrote him off when the workout video of Shadeur and Cam Ward surfaced. It’s pretty clear from that two minute clip that one gets it, and the other doesn’t.

doing some very quick google research, I find Geno Smith, Jay Cutler, Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, Vince Young, Kirk Cousins.

it could be debated how much of a rock they were/are or if their off field issues are in the same general level as Sanders.

Not something I advise admitting to, as it makes one look bad, but in my 66 years I've been over 100 about 3 or 4 times, all at a young age. The worst one being on a motorcycle. How f-iing dumb is that? I am truly embarrassed by that and feel fortunate no blood, no foul.
Very similar youth. Over 100 mph 4x and 1 on motorcycle at 3am on NJ Turnpike years ago. Worst decision was evading cops 1x and went >100 mph but again… youth stupidity is common. (Turned off lights on a road I was very familiar with to avoid capture).
The key is learn from mistakes and learn to apply different reasoning to make it in life.
I was stupid until late 20’s.
No DUI or crazy crashes.

Before my mother died I once said to her, “ How did you put up with me when I was young?”. Her response was priceless. Through her advice and wisdom and hoping some of it would sink in, she said, “ I just tried to keep you alive long enough for your brain to develop “.

I can appreciate that. My mother said something similar last year right before she passed.

Everyone on earth is tempted to speed when they get a fancy new sports car.
We're so critical and negative on the www that we never discuss that.
I'd bet that there is a large number of rookies (in all sports) that get pulled over and don't get tickets.

It is dangerous.
How many replies are from people that text and drive? Don't pay attention because their phone rang or something fell on the floor? Got into their music and got distracted? On and on and on...

It's stupid. It's careless and reckless.

It's not as unique as many present it though.

Definitely not, but twice in 2 weeks and skipping a court date when you're already on a pretty short leash with questionable talent is a bad look. He's under one heck of a microscope and is making all the teams that passed look pretty smart.

He’s trying to perfect that part of his game. Perhaps he didn’t think the first one was good enough.

Mobility isn't a strength. Maybe he's working on the mental side of speed by trying to run down the good people of Cleveland hoping it'll translate later.

I was pulled over doing 104......
What were you driving ?
My 1990 barette gtz 😂

But I've been over a 100 many times :bag:

I'm not a reckless swerver but will drive fast if road is open

Just had my accord over 100 the other day
I realize all my stupid speed was in my 30s and 40 once. My 1990 Mustang GT, 1992 vet, and 1999 vet, all over 100, with the Mustang around 135 if memory serves. Finally my V45 Magna motorcycle, in a light rain, with someone on the back. What if I had wrecked and killed my buddy Rick? He passed away recently RIP. I think back to those days and realize how stupid that was. It happens, whether educated or not. People make bad choices and sometimes pay for it with their lives, or worse, someone else’s. Now my wife says I drive too slow. “Quit driving like an old man”.

Honest question, has any quarterback that’s gone on to become an absolute rock for their franchise, exhibited this type of nonsense behavior?
Only two-time MVP NFL QBs would do something like that.
Look at this guy, he's a bum. Ya know why?
He was going FASTER than Shedeur.
AND...
He filmed himself with one hand WHILE he was going 105 MPH WITHOUT a seatbelt.
Do you think he will ever live this down, or will it be forgotten and no one will ever mention it again?
Naw, that won't ever happen.

This is one example, and a good one. Not great decision making by Lamar, obviously. That said, did he make these types of decisions as a kid coming into the league trying to establish himself and get 53 grown men to believe in him as their leader and a guy that will win games for them?

I give him a bit of a pass for this one instance since, as you pointed out, he’s now a two-time MVP and clearly has the goods.

Really looking for that college aged kid with known idiotic tendencies when they came into the league and still turned into Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, etc.

I'm going to hold off on conclusions like that until I see him play for awhile in the NFL.

Do you honestly think this was the first time Lamar did this? Do you believe he was the only guy in that room of grown men who speeds?

The instances of people getting caught doing this are miniscule relative to the number of NFL players who do the exact same thing.

My guess is that a lot of them did stupid stuff when they were college kids. I also think a lot of that stupid stuff got covered up. I would bet everything I own that Marino did way more than the publicized weed stuff (that suddenly disappeared once he threw 48 TDs as a pro). Didn't Peyton Manning get accused - long after he was drafted - of indecent exposure to a cheerleader(s)? I'm sure no PR fixers, family members, or UT officials were involved in making that story go to sleep.

Yeah, I guess we don’t know if this is the first time that two-time MVP Lamar Jackson has sped, but we can safely assume it’s not.

What we do know is that proven-nothing-5th-round-pick Shadeur Sanders was actually cited for going 101 the same day he skipped a court appearance for another speeding violation he received not 30 days prior. The same guy who seems more interested in doing TikTok dances for his followers, and having zero awareness of how much of an idiot he sounds like when being recorded in a workout with the other quarterback he was (perceived to be) battling to be the #1 overall pick.

Very true that there were likely similar historical comps that succeeded in the NFL, we just weren’t aware of them because social media didn’t exist. I’d just love to discuss a case study of a quarterback who had a similar profile out of college that became an elite quarterback.

Whether it’s immaturity, entitlement, lack of accountability, poor judgment or something else…I’m just 100% out on this guy because I can’t fathom him succeeding as a franchise QB with how moronic he continually comes across.
