He is not a starting QB in the league, he is not good enough.
He is a backup/journeyman at best unless somehow he improves substantially
which I don't think will happen due to work ethic
He did what was needed from him to win the game today, he made 1-2 plays
the scramble roll out pass down the field was nice
He was playing against a team that is mailing it in, so really no way to get a real read on
how he played today

Such a dishonest headline by ESPN. His QBR for the game, ESPN's own stat, was 8.3. For reference, the worst QBR this season so far of QBs who played enough to be eligible is 24.8 by JJ McCarthy, which means McCarthy, who has been pretty bad this season in the eyes of most, has been 3 times as good as this season collectively as Sanders was yesterday.
And to anyone wondering why some are rooting against him, his postgame comments (in the clip below) are Exhibit A. Sure, you want your QB to be confident, but unmitigated arrogance is never a good look, and its hilarious that he thinks he somehow played well in a game in which his team won in spite of his play.

Justin Fields also had single digits, I think. I know he had a .7 when he got knocked out in Buffalo.
This is not to correct you. 8.3 is woeful.

Looks to me like a young man who's happy and excited he's just won a game. I don't take unmitigated arrogance from that at all

Like most opinions that have been shared about him, both good and bad, this is a silly expectation. How many occurrences has there been historically in which a mid-late round rookie gets thrust into action mid-season and good outcomes resulted? I'd love to see evidence that lists any name beyond Tom Brady and Brock Purdy.
These guys fall to mid rounds and beyond for good reason - they're not ready, they need development. Development they're not going to get in-season. The reality of the NFL is the time spent between games is getting ready for the next one. It's not to get a potential future project more reps. Their window re-opens either in the offseason or when opportunity presents itself, and if the latter happens before the former then expect a bumpy ride, at best. Cause they went into the season not ready, and they still aren't, only now they've not been getting meaningful reps since August too.

I'm entitled to be critical for his lack of preparedness and I did post that Sanders inability to be ready should fall on Stefanski, I woulda got a head start on the hiring process for '26
And you're cherry picking to feel bad when I wrote so much more than just this sentence
We're good Mac, we're always good but I kinda don't like what you did here
My POV is silly...good to know and I think many have posted similar remarks, you certainly would not be alone in that camp

What we've seen the last 6 quarters (good and bad) is about what any rational person should've expected from a 5th round rookie and any questioning of practice reps before Wed 11/19 is nonsense. I hope for more measured takes from everyone in the future, but given the subject matter don't expect it.

From the Sunday thread...I also made a point that he only threw 20 passes at one point and had well over 200 yds passing, 10 yds per attempt will usually satisfy most
How silly is it to expect a professional to be ready?
Players shuffle in and out on basketball courts, baseball diamonds and ice rinks but gawd forbid we expect Sanders with a HoF father that has trained Shedeur for the rigors of the NFL...

It's not silly to expect any player from any roster to be ready when their numbers called

With the possible exception of the Titans, I don't think there's an NFL team playing worse right now than the Raiders. If Sanders leads his team to a win over a team that hasn't packed it in, then I'll perk up.

Commit to a guy that just beat the Raiders and was handled like a toddler by the coaching staff the whole game? It would be such a Browns thing to do.
This guy is not a quality NFL starter IMO. Browns fans are going to find that out real quick.

Deep shot to Bond was a good play and throw. Beyond that, it didn't look like he completed a pass more than 5 yards down field.

meh whats the difference - Gabriel looks lousy too and had a decent run....might as well get some film on Shadeur before making the likely decision to bring in a new QB. If he stinks then a better draft pick

Luckily for him, he won’t face a genuinely good defense this year. He’ll face a few average defenses.
the committment is that he gets to start the next game. and honestly, the performance was not so great that thats even a guarantee.
He played okay. Lets not get excited here. it is only one game. His relief appearance the week prior was poor.
as a rookie there is never an expected committment there unless you are a #1 overall pick or something. Most NFL QB have to prove themselves consistently over time to have any kind of job security. in his case, he is on a rookie Contract, so the money isnt huge. so whether he learns on the field or on the bench, hes not being paid a boatload of cash until (I think) the final year of his contract. So he has some committment there.
until that contract is up for renewal, thats where the committment ends.
He also had what appears to be a 35 yard pass to Jeudy completed and then promptly fumbled by Jeudy because he didn't see the defender coming from behind him.

Yeah, that play/fumble was entirely jeudy’s fault. Good pass by sanders, jeudy seemed to be wide open.

That's correct. Our family was over at another's with 2 other families. The kids did their thing while the adults watched the game and I make a point of it to not be on my phone in social settings.
Because you made similar silly commentary last week...

I suggest not reading too much into text. Only so much can be gleaned as there's no inflection. Cause 'irked' misses the dart board. I'll be ready whenever someone is ready to have an conversation about the player though.

He may or probably more likely won't make it but there's just no call for someone to say that that is arrogance. We've all been young and excited but few have just won their first NFL starting game. If you can't see youthful excitement in that little clip and only see arrogance I think its on you not him

Agreed. We all have different experiences in life and that's what makes us who we are. Imagine your experiences with Prime Time as your dad? Sanders as a person isn't my problem. Not every person can play NFL QB. It's the hardest position in sports. It takes a certain moxy. A certain trait that reflects a certain vibe. That video wasn't it. That video doesn't scream I lead men. Maybe its just an example of this generation, the modern athlete. Maybe im just yelling at kids to get off my lawn. Maybe not. Imo

Arrogance is interesting because many people hate it in athletes who have yet to prove themselves, but then they love it in athletes once they prove themselves. Muhammad Ali and Conor McGregor may be two of the most arrogant athletes ever, but many people loved their arrogance once they were at the top of their sport. Yet an athlete can't reach the top of their sport unless they're arrogant enough to believe that's where they belong. So many people want young athletes to have an unbridled belief in themselves, but then they get upset if the athlete publicly shares that belief.
