the skill position excellence overcomes the trenches mediocrity....so the "failure mode" if there is one is a significant injury to any of the big 4 offensive weapons....maybe less so brown because perrine could cover for him...but if chase or burrow gets hurt the team nosedives (no revelation there).

Wonder how many will do the Chase/Chase stack this year out of the 1.01 spot. i can't give a reason why but for some reason i don't love it

In a 12-team dynasty I have Chase/Chase and loved every minute of it last year.
They’d combine for 40-70 a week. Absolutely consistent scoring, with 2 of the most likely to get a TD. What’s not to love?

I really like combos when they are on a really good offense.
QB-RB, QB-WR and RB-WR all work for me although I like QB-RB the best.

I think it is a good combo, but last year the range was 10-70 not 40-70. With the average at 40.5 per week (brown at 16ish and Chase as 23.5).
Yeah and I understand of course that points don't carry over and last year was last year. I actually recall in 2023 doing a FFPC Main Event were I had Burrow, Chase, Tee along with some studs like rookie year Puka, Kyren Williams, J Taylor, McBride and my team did not even make the playoffs. A year later that same team might have won me $1M. Really only difference was health, mainly Burrow's.
So again understanding it's a new year but I can't think of anything that will derail the Bengals offense and the efficacy of their big guns other then health. So I guess can understand wanting to not put all your eggs in the same basket should something like a Burrow injury take place, especially in a home league, but it's hard to draft that way in a national type contest.
This is a wild comp the OC is making. I see few similarities in Brown and Ekeler's games. Brown is a better tackle breaker, and Ekeler was (and possibly still is) a MUCH better receiver. Brown's also almost 20 pounds heavier than Ekeler.
I don't hate Brown, but I think he's getting overvalued a bit based on unsustainable workload. He had all but 5 RB touches for the Bengals after Moss went down (not counting the week 18 game he missed) and that won't even come close to happening again, for Brown, or any other RB.
I like Brown at the 3/4 turn, as a high-end RB2, but I do have some Tony Pollard-ish concerns about extrapolation of a perfect storm the year before.

The timing was funny coming the day after a long piece was wrote about Moss and his neck, and in that article he was grumbling about how the Bengals kind of left him out in the cold early in the offseason. He should have been more grateful they redid his contract and essentially gave him a $375K guaranteed. Perhaps his lack of appreciation for this coming out in that article was the final push they needed?

It will be interesting to see whether Tahj Brooks gets a deep look before that is decided. Brooks was a 6th round pick, but given the depth of this RB class and the talent available in late rounds, I'm not discounting him to that degree. Reportedly one strength is pass protection, which can drive how quickly rookie RBs play.

I think of blocking as essential to be a three down back.
I'd argue pass blocking only really matters for fringe players. 2 of the 5 worst pass blocking RBs last season were Achane and Gibbs, and they aren't gonna lose snaps over it. Irving, Walker, and Kamara were also all near the bottom of the league. Meanwhile, Devin Singletary was top-3 and it meant nothing for him. James Conner was #1, and 3rd downs are the snaps he most often loses.

interestingly one of the reasons I was so high on Brown last year were the reports that he’d worked on 2 key aspects of his game: pass pro & receiving.
But it was more the latter that had my interest piqued, as I figured at worst he’d be the receiving role in a RBBC, which is more desirable for PPR of course, but I also thought the Bengals game scripts would favor the receiving back since their defense was meh.
I agree though that the more marginal the RB, the more critical their blocking skills.

Blocking makes Moss expendable.
The way the Bengals have generally played it in recent years is the pass pro back is also the passing down back (Perine and Moss fit this mold) though it is better if the lead back could block too of course.

Who would you rather have this season, Chase Brown as a 7th or JT as a 3rd?
Side note I can keep Brown as a 6th next year, a 5th the following then a 4th, whereas would only be able to keep JT this year as a 3 then next as a 2.

I expected this from most tbh. I just LOVE JT's ceiling and only really love Brown due to his usage and the O he is in. Don't get me wrong I think he is a good player but I prefer JT all things equal.
However will likely agree the value of Brown is too good to pass up.

it’s a tough call. I actually love both backs at those prices. The CB for a 7th is absolutely a better value, but JT for a 3rd is extremely enticing. That’s a choice I’m glad I don’t have to make. I don’t think there’s much of a chasm here.

I just like the value of Brown for a 7th. Taylor is the better player, but questions surrounding the Colts offense and his lack of production in the passing game have me siding with Brown.

I see Bucky usually ranked ahead of Brown. Is this an accurate rating?
I think a case can be made for Brown straight up, and I'm not even that high on Brown.

I think so, yes. A lot of that depends on White’s level of involvement in the passing game. This year that could be impactful. Long-term White is a UDA IIRC.

It's close but Brown is surging and in drafts the past two days in FFPC he's now going ahead of Bucky, but barely.
Same thing as above. Brown is surging, has been surging since the Zach Moss cut and some other positive news updates and he now barely passes Taylor so not a hot take to prefer Brown though if you are talking non-PPR which I think you mainly play it might be a bit of hotter take to prefer Brown over Taylor. This data is all PPR based.
What I'm generally seeing in redrafts is Brown, Bucky, Taylor and Jacobs sort of in their own RB tier. All close, all within 5 picks of each other with Ladd and Kittle(TEP) mixed between them but that's the order they've gone in the last 2 days.

It was a blurb like this early last offseason that put him on my radar.
If they really commit to it, man. He’s gonna be an absolute beast.
"Accurate" is in the eye of the beholder. I like Brown better.
He is the guy. Very little competition for touches. Better offense. Burrow loves him.

Played at a small high school in Florida as well as Canada, went to Western Michigan, 5th round pick, let's not overhype this guy

He's a "Wagon Queen Family Truckster" and he'll get you from Point A to Point B because he has superior and I mean SUPERIOR talent around him at QB-WR1-WR2
Let's not make it out like Brown is blazing a trail. He does what he's told, he listens to Burrow, he's a take orders type

i do not see the raw talent that other RBs bring to the table

Waldman loves Tahj Brooks. So maybe some competition for touches.
But I think (barring injury, & knock on wood) Chase will be the man & Tahj will threaten Perine & whomever is left of Brightwell & Milton after cuts. I could see them bring in someone cut from another team, too because Brown/Tahj/Perine is not a deep running back room.
