RB Christian McCaffrey, SF (3 Viewers)

Odds of him missing more time?
Being serious though about something that no one can know...a guy who has had this injury now for over a month, ramps it up to play, then is immediately sore to the point he misses a game...doesn't seem very promising.
I think he tears his achilles if he went tonight. Amp'd for game, already compromised calf and achilles. No idea if its good sitting out a week or two with that and without it lingering until the worst happens. Seems like a ticking time bomb. Great player but I blame the crappy URI facility for this. He was working out there before the wedding.

Is there anyone that did not draft him #1 overall.
A lot of people actually, especially if they drafted later. FFPC had a ton of drafts on Saturday, two contests, and he was barely behind Lamb but he was behind Lamb.

I had pick 1.1 of a big FFPC ME Saturday night and since I already had got Lamb twice in this same event I had decided for a few weeks I'd be going CMC. I passed. Struggled with it all day, both passing on CMC and who to pass for since I did not want to be so heavy on Lamb, even if he was my top player regardless of CMC's health.

I made up my mind for sure to pass him up a few hours before I drafted. Just had a ton of variables I've learned over the years made it to heavy to make him the top pick, or even a high one when you got the whole league to choose from, more then just the injury. But the totality of an older RB coming of a career high touch season(about 100 more then his second highest), career high games played, and then an injury that I always hear is one that lingers and it's been lingering in one form or another for what seems like about 9 months now was to much for me.

When Jay Glazer said yesterday he pulled himself out of practice Saturday I felt a lot better about passing him.

Not taking a victory lap here, got him on some teams already, but there was to much to be concerned about for me.
I had missed this Saturday note.

I read something from a beat reporter that said he looked like he was moving full speed on Friday, albeit was marked as "limited". This along with CMC saying he had no doubts he was playing got me.

Thanks @menobrown Not warning people more is a huge fail on my part and I'm trying to learn. Do you have exactly what Glazer said? Or a link? I couldn't find it.
Nah, Joe. I doubt the report was that he pulled himself because of the issue more so that he did to put himself in a better position tonight. Although...wouldn't we have heard about it if it was an injury-specific issue before now?

I don't know what you call the quick segment he does on Fox right before the noon kickoffs. Would need to find that but he briefly mentioned that CMC pulled himself from practice Saturday due to the injury. Did not elaborate any further, like did not say he had a setback, just that he felt the need to pull himself.

This is literally the only tweet I see on it. Maybe he did a TV segment on it?

Yes, just mentioned it was on a segment he did yesterday morning on Fox, was a few minutes before the games kicked off at noon.

A little bit of info I could used yesterday.........this is brutal

FYI, ESPN reported he probably won't play next Sunday either.
Sunday is a whole different ball game when u can have players to replace him. I have no backup plans and in some leagues I couldn't have a backup plan only plan was to sit him on Sunday but he said he was playing so you kind of except that to happen. In 3 games where I was expected to win and now expected to lose. It is what it is such is life in this game.

I still can't find the actual video but just so you all don't think I'm on crazy pills here is someone else who heard the same thing, and I must add I am a little stunned at the lack of traction his comment got:

Would love if you can find the video. I've looked pretty hard and can't find it. It would help me as I'm trying to learn from this and where we went wrong.
Ha, timing. Just updated a new post were I linked the video.

I don't have NFL Sunday archived and it doesn't show yesterday's episode in the DVR. Anyone got it? Just curious about what he said.

NM thanks @menobrown

Sounds like Glazer made it appear CMC was gonna go.

Glazer said roughly "He pulled himself out of practice Saturday. Just trying to be cautious. He says he's going to go. No one tougher in the league than Christian McCaffrey".

Yes, Joe summed it up on point.

What I had first referenced was simply that Glazer said he pulled himself from practice. That of course is accurate.

As it pertains to this week upon hearing his comment I left CMC in my lineup the only places I own him, and without benefit of waivers or a backup plan and I did not leave a spot open for Mason in any of the other leagues I own him. In other words, I thought CMC was going to play.

My concern on hearing Glazer make that comment was more along the lines of if it made me feel way better about passing him at the top of my draft as I'm not really into paying that for players who are pulling themselves out of practice two days before the opener with an injury that has been lingering. Made my already kind of low confidence this calf injury would not be problematic later considerably lower. But I thought he'd play tonight.

Well MF me. I dropped Mason (draft handcuff for CMC) on Sat to pick up Iosivas based on the CIN WR issues.

Looks like I rolled the dice way too early.

JFC. Gonna likely lose this week to my opponent with Breece Hall, and have to overpay for Mason on the WW.

Ugh…. Already!!!

“No one tougher” is such a silly narrative when the concern is whether going would blow his Achilles. He’s not sitting for pain tolerance reasons

Calf tightness is a precursor for a full achilles rupture. The 49ers better be very, very cautious here.
Yeah I said elsewhere but when I heard calf my mind immediately went to Richard Sherman saying he tried to play through calf tightness when he blew his Achilles. Not claiming to be Nostradamus, I thought I was being paranoid but it put me off him for what he costs

At a minimum this feels like confirmation it’s A Big Deal

Implying things hemmed at the mall can be called bespoke got me scared the twitter menswear guy is about to pull up

A bespoke piece of clothing is usually something sharp that stands out and is custom or specially made. It's a British term. It sort of (kind of) changed meaning to imply a zoot suit quality to a men's suit. Jorts are jean shorts. So a bespoke jean short is what this guy is getting at. I was just screwing around and playing along.

A bespoke jort?

As far as implying something hemmed at the mall could be bespoke, he's the one introducing jorts into the equation of what is bespoke here!

Mason looks just fine. Too bad shallow bench leagues don’t have the luxury of carrying backups to guys who say they are just fine 😮

I heard this word approximately zero times in my life until about 5 years ago. Now it's everywhere.

I read a lot of Tom Wolfe and New Journalism in my twenties so I know and knew a bunch of terms relating to haberdashery. All of those journalists were budding fiction writers so they always tried to set a scene. Wolfe especially did so because his theory is that status is what moves the world, and there's no better representation of intentional and unintentional status signaling like how we dress.

Anyone that drafted Christian McCaffrey should have drafted Jordan Mason as his handcuff. Unless it's a league with a shallow bench, then you shouldn't play in such a league; or unless you drafted several quality staring running backs.

I passed on him in a keeper league with a $200 draft budget, for the following backs that would all cost less than $8 to keep next year:

Hubbard/Brooks
Jaylen Warren
Brian Robinson
Trey Benson

Crapped out!

All that talk on Saturday was a smoke screen since Mason said he'd known since Friday he was starting :lmao:
I think saying that was a mistake. but that's neither here nor there. given how often CMC gets hurt, the guy who owns him should have moved early to cover this possibility. to do otherwise is bad planning.

Ya he kinda looked panicked with the question like he didn't know if he screwed up by admitting that. Nonetheless, coach saying how hard it was and how last minute it was, and CMC on Friday himself saying he was fully good to go... They prob can't get fined for that, but that's shady.

He was on the injury report. League can't fine them. Worst they could do is tell them don't do that.

He did have the (dreaded) "Q" next to his name, no? Injury was designated as a calf - for about a month - and last week it was noted that they added an Achilles. That couldn't have given owners a warm fuzzy.

It was a stunner how it played out, but not as though he was struck by lightning walking to the ballpark. Those that drafted him had to have a bit of "uh oh" in the backs of their minds.
