RB D’Andre Swift, CHI (1 Viewer)

How would you value Swift this year in comparison to the somewhat unknown product in Jonathan Brooks?
I'll take Swift as we know he is the starting RB week 1 and I can start him in my line-up. Do I like Brooks? For sure, especially in dynasty but in redraft leagues unless I get him cheap I'm not sure I will own any shares.

Two big concerns with Brooks and it isn't talent: 1 - we don't truly know when he will be on the starting roster. Then we don't know what type of time share it will be and how slowly they will get him back into game shape. Most RBs coming off this injury are eased in.
2 - he is a rookie. With this alone (no injury) he is behind Hubbard who had some good games last year. Even when Brooks is healthy it might be a time share.

So for these reasons I would gladly draft Swift and just ride with him as my RB2 or flex start.
Thanks for all that. I ask because in redraft I snagged Brooks with the 83rd pick in a 12 team PPR with keepers.

Was pretty stoked to just put him in my IR but then I waited too long on TE and ended up with Hockenson as well, so two IR guys but only one IR spot.

Then after the draft our resident Panthers fan offered me Swift for Brooks straight up. I said no, I don't mind holding him half the year, so the guy offered to add Nabers into the trade for Tank Dell.

So it would be Swift/Nabers for Brooks/T.Dell... Still, I said no, mostly because I believe in Tank Dell and I also drafted Marvin Harrison Jr. and Xavier Worthy, so adding Nabers to the mix would add a lot of risk in regards to rookies.

Anyway, I say all that to say, now I'm waffling on whether that was the right call. And I think that offer is still on the table so I'm trying to do my due diligence in terms of comparing these players and their situations.

I'm starting to think that it's possible Swift has the better year as Brooks is just an entirely unknown quantity, at this point. And Nabers could easily do better than Tank Dell, though it's also entirely possible we're looking back at the Texans WRs this year and smacking our foreheads at not realizing that Tank Dell is one of the top 10 most talented receivers in the league.

"But it was impossible not to see why the Bears prioritized D’Andre Swift in free agency. The quickness and agility were notable but not surprising. The fluidity with which he has caught passes has been an eye-opening part of training camp."

So it would be Swift/Nabers for Brooks/T.Dell
I dream someone would offer me this.
Ya I think I would have pulled the trigger on that.

Same here
Ended up pulling the trigger on this. Was able to add Bowers into the deal as well.

got Swift/Nabers/Bowers
for Brooks/Dell/McGlaughlin

Overall pretty happy with the deal. Thanks for slapping some sense into me.
This is flat out robbery.

I'm kinda shocked. He's a Panthers fan so I think he was blinded by the potential of Brooks. He's usually a hard guy to trade with.

He is going to puke every week after watching what he gave up with Nabers and Bowers. It might be 8-10 years of puking. Adding Bowers because of McGlaughlin?….bizarre

The Coachspeak Index
#Bears HC Matt Eberflus on why they targeted D’Andre Swift in free agency:

“We wanted a home run threat in there, we wanted to have a weapon back back there that can do a lot of things”

on whether the Bears are shifting away from RBBC:

“Yeah, I think you have to shift a little bit, philosophy-wise, because you gear it towards the talent, you gear it towards what’s there, in terms of what they can do and what they do well.”

Eberflus has a 50% reliability rating on depth chart coachspeak (low sample size)

McGlaughlin will not score a single fantasy point in their career so it really tilts this trade

Well, technically it was adding Bowers to get the trade done as I had said no a few times already. I floated the idea of adding Bowers for McLaughlin and he went for it. Otherwise, from his perspective, he wasn't getting Brooks.

Another year and another year with the same conversations about Swift. Going into his fifth year and to me hasn't lived up to his hype over the years. He is coming off his first 1000 yard rushing season however. He used to have the receiving upside, but that dipped last year. The way I look at Swift is that he's a good player, but not a really good player and hasn't lived up to expectations. That's not saying he won't be useful, especially coming off his first 1K rushing season, and if he can regain some of that receiving upside.

How did the Bears pay this guy so much money? They didn't even wait in free agency and get stuck with him. They went out and snagged him like he was their first choice of all free agents. Paid him like a king. And now he's running into guys like a beach ball into a wall.

He sucks.

Line is garbage
Swift also isn't a good runner. This is what happens when a bad runner doesn't have an elite OL.

Hated so much that the Bears signed him instead of Pollard, a vastly better player in my opinion, or just ignored RB and rolled with Herbert/Roschon and spent that money on OL or DL.

Line is garbage
Line is garbage which does not match Swift’s inadequate vision. He is a playmaker if you can have a lane or scheme him into space. He is not a back who is going to make a bad oline look good.
I think that's fair - it's probably a bit of each. The OL is assuredly not doing him any favors, but good RBs can still often make something out of nothing and that's not his skill set.

He had 3 choices on that run and took the only one that meant zero yards. Ha ha. Even if he ran directly into the defender his momentum would have gained yards. That was embarrassing.

Just think - through half a season last year, he was RB5!
His entire season was predicated by two games. He was a much player in Detroit than Philadelphia. But we all got t glamored by his first two starts in Phili that we sort of forgave the 14 games.

Finally gave him away the other day after sitting through three crap performances. I'm sure Mark Andrews will go off tonight now too. I should have retired from fantasy football last year. Ugh.
