RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt, WAS (24 Viewers)

Was listening back to a draft by Rotowire guys from 6 days ago and one of them said when JCM was picked in round 12 "wasted pick he won't even play this year"

Oops
None of the fantasy “experts” are truly experts. In the end, they are guessing like everyone else. Some are better than others.
This may be true to some degree, but there a people who have more knowledge and information. It is a tough sport to project individual performance due to the physicality of the game and fact that every play/player relies on the coordination/health of 10 other guys. No other sport matches that complexity and variability imo.
I depend on the ''experts'' to do the extra research i dont have time to do , and thus trust their opinions . Some , im guessing, do more research than others , those are the guys i listen to . Couple on Youtube that i find informative .

Just sold my only share. He was a ww pickup for me right after the draft and I sold him and Olave for a late 26 1st and a mid 26 2nd.

Young team on the verge of contending. Like the idea of having a few more liquid bullets in case the season is going well. Will be possibly looking to sell some pick value for some lineup punch...

Also Olave was always someone I was nervous about when I landed him and Irving for Puka.

Tried to sneak JCM for $1 at the end of our auction yesterday and the guys with $ left were ready. He didn't get bid up too much, as there wasn't a lot of $ remaining at that point, but several teams jumped in before the max bid of $5 was reached.

He went in the 7th round in a 12 team home league last night. Dang.
Holy Crap! That's, by far, the highest I've seen him go.
I took him 7.05 last night but again it's an old school non-ppr and RBs get pushed up a bit more than most leagues. The next 4 RBs to go were Jordan Mason, JK Dobbins and Charbonnett. In retrospect, I probably prefer Charbs but the commish of the league always prints out ESPN positional ranking sheets for anyone who wants to use them and Bill is much higher ranked than those RBs on the RB list so I felt like if I wanted to, it was my last shot.

And that was too high for me. But thought it was interesting.
Agreed on the price of JCM this little somewhat prohibitively high. My general feeling is that Washington Commanders will utilize a full-blown RBBC. They def know that they have Jayden Daniels would lead them deep in the playoff (but not saying 100% high probability) and they need every available RB in their depth to sustain their ambition during post-season.

The thing that tipped me into buying into a 7th-8th round price tag was the preseason game yesterday. Washington sat most of their main offensive players (Daniels, Ertz, Deebo, etc) and that included Ekelder and JCM. Chris Rodriguez however was out there getting 5 carries with the 2nd string. Maybe it's reading too much into these preseason coaching decisions but it was enough smoke for me to include JCM in the rankings of the Jaylen Warren, Kaleb Johnson, Javonte Williams, Rhamondre Stevenson range of RBs with ambigious roles but paths to RB2 value. And given the QB/offense in Washington and level of backfield competition, JCM has a lot more upside than those guys if he hits.

Checking in…
1. He is a sell high
2. Or you draft C. Rodriguez cause he has the same chance as JCM to be the main back, and nobody is drafting him
3. Or you stash JCM. If he emerges, it’s 2nd half of 2025, but you have the bye weeks including brutal week 6 + 8. You’re probably dropping JCM anyway so might as well do option 1.

All these long winded posts about the why. Sharks should be focusing on the value.

Dynasty, yeah selling now is fine. Redraft, unless you drafted a week or 2 ago, there isn't likely to be any value to extract until Washington announces him as the starter or he pops off in a game.

JCM was ranked higher than Mason & Charbs by ESPN?

That’s some questionable rankings, IMO. espn has always been a bit…odd

This is not directed at your post HSG, but the folks at ESPN are amateurish, in general... everything is about schtick there. Not accuracy.

I sometimes peek at their rankings for another data point, especially during the season. But they are so difficult to take seriously.

They’re even worse at FBB. As a long time roto player, and current H2H+Roto player, their rankings for MLB are just bonkers. Several articles a year come out about “exploiting the ESPN rankings” - you’d think after decades of people writing articles about exploiting their rankings, maybe they’d maybe make an effort to have better rankings, but I digress.
;)

The bolded is a good way to look at JCM's value. Once the sure things are off the board, Bill is the type of player who can win a league or have a big hand in winning a league.

If you told me the upper half of the league splits the pot (so top-6 in a 12-teamer), then more caution would be warranted, but winning a league outright is a different story. You can recover from missing on a 7th or 8th round pick.

Not only can you recover from missing on a 7th/8th round pick, you should be prepared to because most of your picks aren't going to work out. We are way too overconfident every August in what we think we know about these players. Here are the players with ADPs putting them as most likely 7th-8th round picks last year from Fantasy Pros

  • Jordan Love
  • Raheem Mostert
  • Christian Kirk
  • Dak Prescott
  • Keenan Allen
  • Chris Godwin
  • Calvin Ridley
  • Javonte Williams
  • Tony Pollard
  • Jake Ferguson
  • Jayden Reed
  • Diontae Johnson
  • Devin Singletary
  • David Njoku
  • Zack Moss
  • Xavier Worthy
  • Rome Odunze
  • Jaylen Warren
  • Brian Robinson Jr
  • Brock Purdy
  • Nick Chubb
  • Brock Bowers
  • Austin Ekeler
  • Jayden Daniels
You've got 2 rookies who were league winners. A rookie WR and 2nd year WR who boom/bust contributors. Some QBs who gave you startable but unspectacular play. Same with a couple veteran RBs. Njoku gave you solid TE points. My takeaway from this tiny little bit of data is in this range, go young.

Excuse me but ESPN is the worldwide leader of sports.

I'm going with #4 - pick Ekeler as a reserve later

I have a question for dynasty purposes, when was the last time a 6 or 7 round rb hit and lasted for more than a year or two? Arian Foster?
Terrell Davis, Bo Jackson, Foster, Mike Anderson, Alfred Morris, and Pacheco is on his way I think...
Were any of them as hyped as this guy?

I don't think Anderson counts. He had one good year then nothing for three years and another good year and nothing. He was just like James Robinson etc. Flash in the pan that the team was always looking to replace.

Why is that funny?
Ummm... I'd say Terrell Davis, Bo Jackson and Foster were pretty well hyped?

Sorry man if not, but your post clearly read like sarcasm.

Bo was, but his story is unique because of baseball and going back in the draft for a second year after being the number one overall in 86
Yeah, I'd say so. Safe to say Bo was the arguably the best athlete in the world at the time...

I am relatively new to FF and eventhough I have been playing since 2008 I haven't paid that close of attention until recently. I'm suspicious of the hype and I had wondered if any of the others mentioned were hyped like this guy. So sorry to not know something, I won't ask anymore questions.

I also think Bo doesn't count as a 7th rounder since he was a 1st the previous year.

Exactly! That was why the question read like sarcasm... and likely why Ilov80s laughed.

This may be one of those times where intent comes across a little different in a post vs if you were having a conversation in person? Hope that makes sense. Speaking only for myself, I was just trying to illustrate why it came across funny... seriously. Was not giving you a hard time. Always welcome questions here.

Gally and I just swapped Tuten for JCM. I’m happy with that price and I wanted Tuten all draft but didn’t have the pick. I’m trading into a crowd but I like Tuten’s viability better. He has very good underlying college stats. We will see. That was my price.

Very cool to hear a trade between two guys here.

Thanks. It’s a Zealots league with about five board members and contributors. He’s got a very good team right now. All five of us are competitive in a twelve-team league. uazwildcats won it last year, Don Quixote the year before, and I did the year before that.

Just judging from our conversations over the years and particularly Gally's IDP board posts... I know he is a tough competitor.

No doubt. And now he has a bouncing baby Bill.

Ben Cummins of FBG is one of the best Twitter follows you can find after a brief perusal of his Tweets/X’s. He’s gotten many big things right these past nine months. Check him out.

I already regret selling JCM for Tuten but I’m happy that there’s somebody else that’s been beating this drum since at least the draft.

Cummins:

CRod is no threat to Bill.
WAS will start Bill.
Ekeler also a smash at ADP
And what I’ve said for nearly a week now. It would make sense for the Jets to sell B. Hall for a draft pick to WAS because WAS wants his type of game. Make it happen, Ben.
