Maybe he knows he’s starting Sunday and this was all a ruse like week 1. lol.Still not yet on IR. Is this just procedural or because of roster numbers? Or could he surface back in week 16 or 17?
I think he asked for them to delay it so he can hurt his fantasy managers one last time.Still not yet on IR. Is this just procedural or because of roster numbers? Or could he surface back in week 16 or 17?
I’d laugh my behind off if that happens.Maybe he knows he’s starting Sunday and this was all a ruse like week 1. lol.Still not yet on IR. Is this just procedural or because of roster numbers? Or could he surface back in week 16 or 17?

49ers tendered RB Jordan Mason with the second-round tender, per source.
Very surprising seeing the second round tag when it was a mass exodus of players yesterday, much of it driven by money. Plus all those five 3rd-4th rounds picks they have to keep picking RB's. Plus they even re-signed Patrick Taylor. So confusing. As mentioned in the FA thread, a bit disappointing that the Niners tagged him and a bit of a surprise also given Guerrendo behind CMC and the rookie crop coming in.

I'd have to guess there is a chance they did this to retain his rights and could trade him at some point. I don't think they are going to be able to help themselves drafting another RB. It's going to be so crowded and they could have 20 RB's active on gameday but there is only one RB they want to give the ball to so long as he's available.
I think with tendering Mason, resigning Taylor to go along with CMC and Gurrendo, it's a sign they won't be drafting a RB despite the depth of the class. Lot of holes to fill this year.Very surprising seeing the second round tag when it was a mass exodus of players yesterday, much of it driven by money. Oh I'm aware of how many picks they have. Based on the moves so far, they will be building depth in the secondary, DL and OL. If you don’t know go look at how many draft picks they have
Don't know if they'll stick, they actually have been pretty bad at drafting RB's(Sermons, TDR) and when they actually draft one that can play they can't stay healthy (Gurrendo/Mitchell)Twelve picks. But are the guys going that late going to be any good and will they fill their holes with earlier picks? The RB picks might not stick at all. I don't know. Mason and Guerendo flashed big time for them.
I just don't see a team that has drafted 4 RB's in the last 4 years, 3 of them in rounds 3-4, have 12 picks and not use a single one of them on a RB in what is probably the deepest RB class of all time.
I just don't see them carrying 5 RBs. Maybe they cut TaylorI just don't see a team that has drafted 4 RB's in the last 4 years, 3 of them in rounds 3-4, have 12 picks and not use a single one of them on a RB in what is probably the deepest RB class of all time.
I definitely see what you're saying. I'd bet on it also.
Yes, agree. I don't know what that Taylor signing was about but honestly I don't even factor him into the equation. Guessing that one year deal he signed was league minimum with very little guarantees.I just don't see them carrying 5 RBs. Rookie drafting 101 - outside of #11, none of these guys are expected to contribute day 1. Tendering a player for ~$5m / 1 yr they see as a #2 RB that can more than fill-in as a #1 in case their now risky incumbent can't go is a lot different than the multi year commitments the guys they lost yesterday signed. Niners are gonna be spending those picks hoping they uncover another Winters, Mustapha, or...Mason. They started what, 4 different backs last year? And from memory that isn't much different for them vs the pre-CMC days. Those in our game don't want to read it, but history justifies their volume approach.11, 43, 75, 99, 112, 138, 139, 149, 189, 228, 232, 255

Just came across this and had to laugh. (*there appears to some confusion on if they have 11 or 12 picks and if one of them is a 4th or 5th round pick, no idea what that's all about)It's a good thing there's not a "bet your life" prop on FanDuel.
Pretty sure it’s 11. They were counting their own 5th which they had to give up for a cap violation.Just came across this and had to laugh. My FF dream has come true…Traded to Vikings - interesting
Sounds like a thunder and lightning approach aheadMy FF dream has come true…Traded to Vikings - interesting
Wow...Mason and Jones...that is one interesting backfield...real football it is very legit...fantasy-wise there is a lot to unpack.Traded to Vikings - interesting
Probably right, but I think Mason is a good fit and will end leading the Vikes in carries (with a fair shot of a good TD total).Sounds like a thunder and lightning approach aheadMy FF dream has come true…Traded to Vikings - interesting
2 year. I guess that still opens the door for the Vikings to draft a back - no real cap hit if they cut him in 2026. At least that is way i understand it.Glad to see Mason get a nice payday, guaranteed $7 million, could be up to $12 million on a year contract.
They only have 4 picks this year - 1st, 3rd and two 5ths. Sure they could use one on an RB, but have to think it’s a much lower priority with that little draft capital.2 year. This is a deep RB draft class and they addressed a lot of positions in free agency. They actually still have a 6th because SF traded the 187 and Mason for the 160 overall. They only have 4 picks this year - 1st, 3rd and two 5ths. I also like it for the Niners. Mason is a good RB, but a terrible fit for Shanny’s scheme. Needs to be able to run a big route tree & catch the ball. He wasn’t great at either reportedly.I like this for Mason's dynast prospects. Jones is one of the oldest RBs in the league and has trouble staying healthy.
This looks to be a Thunder & Lightning tandem with Mason as the Thunder. Another good move by the Vikes.
They had 2x 3rds and 2x 4ths before the Mason deal. I didn’t see the return on that one.Just came across this and had to laugh. Just don't need him or value him for $3m. I had said in the Free Agent thread before FA started that the main value I saw in them putting the tender on him was to try and trade him. They did the best they could. They had 2x 3rds and 2x 4ths before the Mason deal. I didn’t see the return on that one.Just came across this and had to laugh. As a 49er fan and having watched both of them, Brieda was a system RB. Mason is a much better pure runner and obviously much bigger and stronger.I would pump the brakes on my excitement. I got all excited when Matt Breida went to Miami from San Fancisco after he had that game against Cleveland. Turns out he was a system RB like a lot of the other San Francisco guys. I wonder if Mason falls victim to just having success in a Shanahan scheme.
I wanna give him the benefit of the doubt. So I will.
Several articles about how Mason worked hard in the off season last year on his pass catching ability. Decent hands, but not a very good route runner. Screens and check downs, he is fine but won't see many down the field type plays run for him.I'm probably most interested in whether Mason is just a bad receiver/pass protector, or the Niners just decided not to use him in that role due to scheme. Even when he was carrying the load for a stretch last year, he was barely used in the passing game.
Which is fine if he doesn't get down the field work - not too many RBs do that anyway. Just hoping for a bit of that easy PPR stuff.Several articles about how Mason worked hard in the off season last year on his pass catching ability. Decent hands, but not a very good route runner. I assume #6 is a typo and should be 2026 salary? This is from Profootballtalk article:
The official numbers are in for the new deal to be signed by new Vikings running back Jordan Mason.
He’s getting a two-year deal to replace his one-year, second-round restricted free agency tender of $5.346 million.
Here are the full details, per a source with knowledge of the terms:
1. Signing bonus: $4 million.
2. 2025 offseason workout bonus: $100,000
3. 2025 base salary: $1.23 million, fully guaranteed.
4. 2025 per-game roster bonus: $10,000 per game, up to $170,000.
5. 2026 workout bonus: $100,000.
6. 2025 base salary: $4.73 million, $2 million of which is fully guaranteed.
7. 2026 per-game roster bonus: $10,000 per game, up to $170,000.
The deal also includes incentives for each of the two seasons. He gets $200,000 for 800 rushing yards or $350,000 for 900 rushing yards or $500,000 for 1,000 rushing yards.
He also gets a salary escalator for 2026 under this formula: $200,000 for 800 rushing yards or $350,000 for 900 rushing yards or $500,000 for 1,000 rushing yards.
It’s a base deal of $10.5 million with $7.23 million fully guaranteed at signing. He can make up to $1.5 million more in incentives and escalators. Giving it a maximum value of $12 million.
Jordan Mason’s Contract Details
Even as an Aaron Jones fan...his performance inside the 5 just hasn't been a strong suit. At the same time, his receiving ability out of the backfield is top tier while Mason was largely ignored in SF, so I doubt a healthy Jones is rendered an RB2 on his own team.As a 49er fan and having watched both of them, Brieda was a system RB. If Jones gets dinged up again and missed substantial time, I have my doubts he will get this job back.
OK but I could easily see a move away from Jones as the primary ball carrier. Especially if he gets banged up.
