I had Taylor that year. He fell so far I figured “as my RB4, why not? If I get 5-6 games out of him it’ll be worth the pick”
Helped win me a championship that year. Had almost 50 receptions, too.
Then I took him a little higher in his 6th season & was also worth it.
Then I missed him in his 7th season but took him about the same in his 8th season, when he played 11 games. I had ragrets.
He actually had quite a few years of very good production, which is overshadowed by a few missed games. From 2002-2007 he was a very productive bad, not including that 11 game season.
His moniker is a little unfair. His missed games on average are right there with most modern RBs.
Perhaps in time Penny will have enough full seasons to shake his reputation as well. It won’t be next year, but if he signs for a meaningful role somewhere I’ll happily take the discount in redraft. Broken bones mend just fine - low risk injury so long as there’s no compound fracture.

Not quite - 2008-9-10 were pretty rough, but yeah, it’s definitely overblown and shouldn’t define the dude. He was a great and very underrated RB

Because, unlike Fred, Penny continues to get hurt every single year.
Fred played in 17 of 18 games as a rookie (starting 14) and 16 of 16 in his 5th season (100 of 112 over the next 7 seasons). He played in 60 of 84 games in his first five seasons (71%) with 56 starts and 1,173 touches. Penny has played in 43 of 70* (61%) with only 11 starts and 364 touches.
Penny has surpassed Fred's injury history by a massive margin.
Yes, it's catastrophically wrong to mention Penny in the same breath as Fred Taylor.
*Maybe more if the Seahawks make the playoffs.

Why try to start an argument? I'm not here to play that game. Was there anywhere where I said Penny was Fred Taylor? Fred Taylor is an extreme example, that's why he's Fred Taylor. My post was only to say Penny is worth an add at the right price, if you disagree, fine. Most wouldn't.

Penny may be a good acquisition but framing your argument around Fred Taylor is selling a false bill of goods.
I'm not starting an argument, I'm pointing out false logic so the people you are trying to help have more information before making a decision to target Penny or not.
It's a bad comp and people should know that.

False logic? What's your deal bud? You're trying to create a straw man argument. Nowhere did I compare the two. Taylor was literally known as Fragile Fred Taylor. I never said Penny was as good as him just that he has amazing risk/reward potential and anything is possible. Taylor is an excellent example of that, is he not? I mean, I just picked up Penny for next to nothing. Why not?
Back then, you could get Taylor for a song too, it was a different era. Everyone was a bell cow so his missed games were very significant.

He won me a bunch of leagues in 2021. He's the kind of moderate price risk I like to take while everyone else is busy making injury jokes and being dismissive.

I see this as a big positive until he’s hurt or if they draft an RB relatively early.
I picked him up as end of bench stash that would be a drop after rookie draft, but I will now find a way for him to make my roster.

To add to this.
Penny got a really low one year contract, not even $2m guaranteed. I never thought he'd get a lot but when Miles was saying goodbye after the Penny signing I thought he got more then that.
Nothing they paid Penny would prohibit them paying another RB. They could also draft one but are light on mid round picks with no picks right now between 4-6.
One way or another I'm expecting another low cost addition. Not a big time addition on top of resigning Scott because they only activate 3 RB's each week.
Still like the landing spot for Penny as talent and ability have not been his issues, easy to make an argument he's been the most explosive and perhaps best RB on a per carry basis in the league the last few years. But the money and commitment is not great and with Hurts eating as much as he does you can't deal with to much comp, not matter how efficient you are.
Still see no role change for Gainwell and in general would not view Gainwell as a keeper in FFPC leagues. I do own Penny in 3 FFPC leagues and had him as a fringe candidate to stick on rosters depending on how FA worked out for him. Despite the low pay he is a keeper to me.

I don't know. If Penny is a end of bench keeper in FFPC-style league, I think Gainwell is sitting right next to him on the edge of that same bench. They gave Gainwell some good touches late last season into the post season and I thought he showed a real spark. But, yeah, a lot can change between now, the NFL draft, and roster cut down.
I don't see Philly going after another RB.... we already have 3 under contract with Penny/Gainwell/Scott.... Sermon is there (if he makes it), and probably an UDFA since we have very few picks. Wouldn't make sense to go pay for a FA RB as a 4th/5th RB.
I just don't agree. Gainwell's best trait is a receiving back on a team that threw less to RB's then any team in the league. I see nothing dynamic, exceptional or really overly above average about him.
Stolen from Sheil Kapadia, over the last two years there have been 56 RB's with at least 150 carries. Out of those 56 Rb's Penny is #1 in YPC and yards after contact. Also per Sheil if you go all the way back to the year 2000 there have 247 RB's with at least 300 carries. Penny is one of them and is #1 in YPC. In the last two years Penny is also #2 in the league in explosive plays per run.
Long story short Penny has been nothing short of spectacular, just has not been able to stay on the field. Gainwell looks like another guy. I'd rather bet on the guy who has looked special and hope he can stay healthy long enough or at the right time then a guy who was healthy all year and gave you about 5 fantasy points a game. I just see no upside in Gainwell.

I'm thinking exactly the same - people will shy away from him and he'll stay healthy all year. Sanders wasn't hurt nearly as much as Penny, but he did spend a lot of time on trainer's table quite a bit his first few years. Sometimes guys are injury prone until they're not.
Reminds me of the famous quote that sort of goes "some people see things as they are and ask why, some people dream things that never were and say, why not?"
That pretty much sums up my mindset with having a guy like Penny on my roster and really fantasy management in general. Truly think fantasy players to often get caught in how things have been and thinks that's just how it is and fail to think of how it could be. Not that how it's been is not a good indicator or should be ignored, just think more of an open mind that allows for a little optimism never hurt.

Funny thing with Penny, I had him in all 3 dynasty leagues last offseason, and sold in 2 to lions fans right after he went off against the lions 
I will keep buying if he's offered at an injury discount. Upside + risk baked into cost= a RB I am buying. It's the RBs that everyone is convinced are durable that I'm selling. It's true hardly any RBs have Penny's litany of injuries. But seems like with every RB, a major injury is a matter of when not if.

Fragile Freddy started 3 times as many games in his first 4 seasons than Penny has in 5 seasons. Penny makes Fragile Fred look like Ironman.
But I agree he offers value if he can stay healthy. Will come down to price, I think his ADP will shoot back up to the mid-rounds and out of my preferred price range in dynasty based on this landing spot, especially if Philly doesn’t draft anyone new deemed much of a threat.

Lol I haven't heard Fragile Freddy y in a long time. Taylor ran like a beast when he was healthy.
Amazingly had a fairly lengthy career too. Was still effective into his early 30’s, made the Pro Bowl at 31!
