Finally ready to weigh in.  Stranger, no question.  My dog is incredible, but he's a dog.
This, and I find it incredible at the number of people that would say otherwise, unless it is just shtick. I can't even wrap my mind around choosing the dog, and I love dogs. But, as Tick so eloquently said, he's a dog.

Hey Hey Hey. Goodbye.

According to dog people I know, people will save the dog, because the dog is an innocent. People are dbags and in general don't deserve to be saved.

Woman broke down Saturday night in front of a church less than a mile from my house.  White dude in a truck sees her, pulls off, pretends he wants to help and then robs her at gun point.   Takes her wedding ring, purse, etc.

I can't believe anyone would pick a dog over a human.

I wonder how many people that would actually save the dog,  but then they would have their dog put down if it needed surgery or something that would cost  them too much money.

to be fair, those same people wouldn't pay for the human's surgery either.

It took me a good 40 pages in the original thread to realize that the "dog" answers weren't just shtick. Kind of similar to some of the positions taken in the Trump threads more recently.

But no, people actually just think really differently from each other sometimes.

I would definitely save a dog before I saved Trump.

Not even sure why you had to put pen to paper here, this seems obvious.  I have a sick dog that will likely die within the next 12 months and I'd save her over Trump, Bannon, or Flynn.  I would save Mattis over her, because he's that good.

I'm still thinking the dog answers are shtick. I can't wrap my head around saving a dog.
I would save my first Westie over all but about ten humans, no question.  I'd save a stranger dog over someone I didn't like without a thought.  I'd save my current dogs over almost any adult stranger, but not over a kid.  There is how my mind works, chew on that.

Okay then.

Welp, if we're keeping score, I've already dropped more on my dog's healthcare when he was a puppy than I have ever had to for my own.  Actually, that's a pretty decent secondary reason for me to choose my dog over the stranger.  Need better ROI. :)

Dog wins every time for me.  He's my dog and I love him.  The stranger is some rando who is, more than likely, some brand of #######.

I'm still thinking the dog answers are shtick. I can't wrap my head around saving a dog.
I'm shuked anyone would save some stranger over their own dog.  Fully wouldn't expect it if I were the "stranger" in the "Stranger vs. dog" scenario.

We spent a lot of money to try and save our last dog and now have pooch insurance on these two.

No dog has ever tried to tell me it isn't ok to punch a nazi.

Dog answers have to be schtick.   I have 2 dogs and it isn't close.  Humans have 7 times the life expectancy as dogs.
And that is most of the problem.  A good dog that lives 10 years is >>>>>>>>>>>>a horrible human that lives 70.

Sorry you don't understand that.

I have two dogs and you're right it isn't close. I've been bonded to both them since the day I brought them home and the bond keeps growing with time. The stranger is a stranger.

Yeah. They just heel for Nazis while being fed by them. Nice, loyal pack animals, these dogs..

We spend all day on the internet with strangers so we can tell them we'd rather save our dogs than our basic longing for human connection.

Sounds right. We've obviously made good life choices.

If you saved your dog over someone I knew, you would find that you had a dead dog pretty quickly afterwards.

I have one dog that I love and would save over the human.

My other dog is a ####### ####### little #### mother ####er, and I will not save him. And it depends on the character of the stranger whether or not I would save him/her.

I would make sweet and sour chicken and eat your dogs afterwards.   And I would broadcast it homeland style.

I hope you dog people are schtick. Although I thought the Trump people had to be and we all know how that ended.

The Trump people are why you don't save the stranger. People are #######s.

They are still people and it's not like you have time to vet who you are saving.  Even if they are wearing that red hat I would be afraid that it was mockingly as Jermaine says.

were you beaten as a child or somehow abused?

Meh, anyone that owns a dog saves the dog's life over a stranger's life indirectly on a daily basis. I have easily spent 30-40K on my dog over the course of his lifetime. I don't know how many strangers in poor countries I could've saved with food/vaccinations/medicine/disaster relief but I am guessing it is a pretty high number.

If this is more of a hypothetical where the stranger (that I know nothing at all about) and dog are right in front of me then I save the stranger.
