Sentenced to 1 year solitary confinement, but you can bring the complete works of one actor or director to entertain you (1 Viewer)

If I was in solitary confinement for a year- I think the emotion of laughter/humor would be very valuable to help cope. Thus, I’d want to pick someone that has a nice volume of hilarious stuff. Off the top of my head- people like Seth Macfarlane and Trey Parker come to mind.
Because it's solitary, I gave some serious initial thought to a seasoned porn star's collection. But, I do think that would get old throughout the day and hopefully my memory of a past highlight reel would help there. So, in all seriousness, I do think I'd opt for non-porn.

I think the **** Wolf suggestion above as well as Steve Buscemi are really sneaky good selections because they give volume. Similarly, Conan O'Brien would give you his late show, podcasts, and The Simpsons. Some other good suggestions with Tarantino (though he wouldn't provide a series) and Joss Wheedon (series and movies). Tom Hanks provides range.

Gun to my head, though, I think I'd need to pour through IMDB and figure our some cross-sections to try to grab The Wire and some other really good series.

Betty White had like an 80 year career, don't know if her material would get me through a month.

Could I watch a year of Alex Trebek or Bob Barker?

Interesting on hosts like Conan O’Brien. Part of me now thinking about someone like Alex Trebek, if he would qualify (not really an actor or director though) — at least could learn and help retain some knowledge. (And the greatest episode of Cheers to boot.)

I'll go with Steve Buscemi. With 175 screen credits on IMDB, I guarantee I wouldn't get bored.
You most assuredly get bored being only able to watch one movie every other day
He was in Sopranos. Does that mean you can watch all of the Sopranos or only the episodes he was in?
And can you watch Fargo the series because he was in Fargo the movie...
Do you think that's relevant?

Arnold Schwarzenegger for numerous reasons.

-I've watched Predator, T2 and Commando too many times to count, what is another 100+ of each.
-Gives you action and laughs, even when he isn't trying to.
-Watch his workout videos to workout with to kill more time so you aren't some sloppy slouch coming out of a year of solitary.

Ed O'neill. 260 glorious episodes of Married with children to watch, broken up with plenty of movies ranging from Prefontaine and Blue Chips to Wayne's World and the Adventures of Ford Fairlane. I would also have the time to watch modern family, I've only caught a few episodes here and there but Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara on the tube would not make me upset.

Riley Reid or Prince Yahshua.....the nice thing is that they're in the same movies alot of times.

Went on a first date last night, asked this question, and while she picked Liam Neeson, we spent most of the time trying to decide if a Pron Star would be the best choice, and if so, which one.

We decided on Ron Jeremy. While you don't have to watch his scenes, you would get over 2000 movies he's either acted in or directed. You also get non-pron like The Boondock Saints, Boogie Nights, Ronin, Orgazmo, Godfather III (not sure that's wanted), Ghostbusters and about 50 more "normal films". Lots of material to pass the time.

Not to derail but Boogie Nights??? I don't think he's any part of that outside of a consultant

Peggy Bundy (Katey Sagal), she could get me through a year.

Married with Children
Sons of Anarchy
Futurama

I think you are right. I have seen that movie so many times, it just feels like he is in a party scene somewhere.

I don't think a lot of you are doing this right. 365 days, assuming you are awake 15 hours a day is 5,475 hours. You need to spend the majority of this time occupied with these shows/movies to not slowly go insane. Assuming an average of 45 minute TV episodes, that's just over 7,000 total episodes. Assuming a 1.5 hour movie, that's 3,650 movies. You really want to pick someone who maximizes your total options here, not just your favorite because it wont be nearly enough.

Obviously, you can rewatch things, but that might slowly drive you insane too.

I think even watching something different for 15 hours straight would drive me insane. I'd want to spend a bit of time sitting quietly or doing push-ups or something.

And it's back to James Hong.

Yeah a lot of sleeping and working out for sure.

If director/producer do I get what they also produced?

If so, then JJ Abrams. Nothing he's done is my favorite thing but as a catalog he's been involved in a lot of great stuff. Besides, I've never watched Alias.

If not, then Spielberg.
Surprised this guy didn't already name him.

If you want to go with Producers, I might side with Rob Reiner.

You'd get all of All in the Family, The Wolf of Wall Street, and This is Spinal Tap, sure, plus: When Harry Met Sally, A Few Good Men, Misery, The Princess Bride, Stand By Me, and, through his production company Castle Rock, you're getting The Shawshank Redemption, Mission Hill, and of course all of Seinfeld.

You are missing my jab. I mentioned Morgan Feeman, then quote Andy and was surprised he didn't mention him ... Shawshank.

But you are correct about Reiner being a good one.

I had initially thought about Clint to get both the actor and director/producer, but he was obviously mentioned a while ago.

Looks like I'm choosing Bess Flowers, who has 1,045 acting credits to her name. That's nearly three movies per day which might keep me from going insane in solitary which would be the whole point. And when I got out I could create an epic "Top 1,000 Best Bess Flowers Movies of All Time" thread.

Another good volume pick would be Jane Bartholomew, who appeared in countless movies due to being the "torch lady" in the Columbia Pictures logo for 40 years.

A more recent name would be Barbara Harris. Probably the hardest working woman in showbiz, she's a "loop group" artist. Her and her troupe of actors provide voice acting for crowd scenes in TV and movies. When they shoot a scene, only the main characters talk, all the background extras mime their performances. Once editing is complete months later, they have 5-12 voice actors come in and do all the background dialogue, murmuring in a crowd scene, any TV/radio bits one might hear, PA announcers, or generally anything one might hear spoken in the background. Basically all the spoken parts that aren't the main actors talking.

Easily 2000 credits, whenever she's listed as Loop Group Casting that would count because she always casts herself as one of the voices. Her work includes 40+ films nominated for Best Picture. You'd get her work on Boogie Nights, Pulp Fiction, the Shawshank Redemption, all the Star Trek films from #3 onward, the Jurassic Park movies, most of Clint Eastwood's director credits since 2000, and entire shows like Stranger Things and Veep.

Youtube link for anyone interested in what Loop Group is

This is the worst answer yet. And I love Arnold

Interesting choice. The Hedgehog, huh? It's like watching Harvey Weinstein do pron

Don’t remember seeing this one - Fred Willard

Tons of great movies including: Best in Show, Anchorman series, Austin Powers, A Mighty Wind, Wall-E, For Your Consideration, Roxanne, Spinal Tap, How High, Harold and Kumar, Silver Streak, Hustle, Dynamite Chicken, and a whole bunch more.

Also a gazillion tv appearances: Get Smart, Love American Style, The Bob Newhart Show, Laverne & Shirley, SNL, Real People, The Love Boat, SCTV, Mama’sFamily, Trapper John, Golden Girls, Married With Children, Family Matters, Murphy Brown, Roseanne, Friends, Mad About You, The Simpsons, Just Shoot Me, King of the Hill, Family Guy, Everybody Loves Raymond, Mad TV, 70s Show, Modern Family and tons of other stuff from reality tv to talk shows to animated shows.

I’m tired of typing any more, but he spans decades so there is lots of variety in eras to keep things fresh.

We did definitely make the caveat that you didn't have to watch his scenes. Still thousands of hours of enjoyable material.

Is their any way to slip the entire Law and Order franchise into solitary? I could really tighten up my rankings for cops, lawyers, and criminals with a windfall like this.

**** Wolf.

I already got dibs. Over 1k hour long episodes from L&O along - Miami Vice, Hill Steet Blues, Chicago Fire/PD/ER, FBI ___.

I will say the point somebody made about needing humor makes me rethink my choice. I like shuke's creativity with Letterman but think I'd get tired of that quickly.
