Shooting At Aurora, Colorado Movie Theater (1 Viewer)

The whole midnight premier showings of big movies is well before my time. I remember last summer when my 9 yo daughter was excited about the last Harry Potter film, and I thought it was nuts to see a movie at midnight. But then late night shows become a big time phenomenon. I’m sure that the movie studios love the press the next day and it is somehow considered a “news” item on Headline news and generates buzz. Not that I was ever going to take my daughter at midnight (3 hours after her bedtime). I just don’t know now…. maybe it’s overreacting, but I sure won’t let anyone from family ever attend one of those midnight shows in the future. I think midnight premieres are a mistake. I think they give nutjobs the stage to create their exotic twisted fantasies. Just don’t know what is going on with some people these days. SMH
 This couldve happened at any time of day. Not sure I get the connection to the midnight showing. I guess maybe the shooter knew there would be alot of people there thus a higher death count. Maybe thats the only connection I see.
Assuming earlier reports about him coming in through an emergency door are true, it would probably be easier to spot the dude walking around the building in body armor and carrying various types of weapons.

Youngest victim is a 3 month old. Who the hell takes their 3 month old to a midnight movie?
Three month olds would be easy to bring to a movie, especially at midnight. If not for the shooting, probably would have slept through the whole thing.

What a horrible tragedy.

I'd love to see the producers, actors and all involved with the making of the film hold a special showing of the movie again at some point in the future and invite all who were in the theater.

It obviously won't heal all wounds, but it would be a great show of support.

If something like that happened to me, I wonder if I could ever go to a movie theater again?

You don't see why that might not be the best idea?

Sad and there seems to be no way to prevent this type of terror attack.
What type of weapon did he use?
Don't turn this into a gun debate, because it's pointless. Guy could've just as easily thrown in some pipe bombs, or rammed his car into the line of people waiting to get in.
While I agree this isn't the place, that is a discussion worth having.
Give me a break with the sanctimonious posturing going on here!!! Do any of you honestly believe that, within a few hours, this isn't going to be the place for a debate on gun control, violence in the media, kids unchecked abuse of violent video games from a young age, and political posturing on both sides of the isle? This is a sad, sad deal for everyone involved, but seriously....how is it any sadder than a lot of the crap that goes on and has gone on in human history. Hey, I bet you didn't know that there have been close to 300 homicides in Chicago alone this year, including a 3 yr old, a 7 year old, and scores of teens! Funny, but I am not seeing many condolences going out to those peeps. ( probably because most of them are black)

Believe me, they are already talking about the difference between auto and non auto guns on NBC. This is for sure going to turn into a debate. You should be glad you live in a country where you are still allowed to do that.
For what its worth, I assume most of the people shot/injured won't be white. Your argument is ridiculous.
Really buddy, where is the commemorative shout out thread to Chi-Town murder victims? Including the old man who was killed for sport last week and then put on Facebook (maybe there was a thread on that, I didn't see it though). Also....if your assumption that most of the people shot are not white rings true, this will open a can of worms unprecedented!

It will trump the Zimmerman thing times 1,000,000.

Pretty unlucky girl @JessicaRedfield was at the Eaton center shooting in Toronto a few months ago and is one of the deceased in this shooting

I see it both ways:1. A heavily guarded premiere might be good psychologically for some of them.

2. They could also just have a special event of some sort.

Just would like to see something done for all the individuals whose lives are forever changed.

I don't know man...that would probably be the last movie I saw in theater if it was me. As it is, there is probably no chance I watch this movie in the theater. As it was, I was probably 50 /50 on going this weekend. I really have no desire now that it has this sick association. Also, the producers would probably be looked upon as cashing in/ saving face. It is probably best to just offer condolences, if say anything.

ABC called the killer's mom who hadn't heard yet and she said "you've got the right person. I need to talk to the police. I need to fly out to Colorado."

:( Sounds like she knew he is messed up.

I can't imagine anyone directly involved wanting anything to do with this movie for quite a while. Strange idea, imo.

Dude, you keep asking where are the threads for other people who die.Start the damn thread then.

You don't see where a random murder of 1-2 people even if daily doesn't garner the attention of a mass murder spree where thousands of people gathered?

That's ####ed up. How many more known ticking time bombs are out there?

And that we have people like you to tell us how glad we should be. Of course a gun debate is going to follow. This is another useless mass murder employing guns. You have to be brain damaged to not see the logic in examining the gun culture of this country when things like this happen.

As unfourtunate as any murder is, there is no way to have a thread for every murder that happens. This is a mass murder that likely hits home much harder than just about any shooting ever. This kind of thing really makes people think because there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. It was a terrorist attack, just not a terrorist attack that we typically associate with that word.

Is it wrong to use the term :batsignal: here?

Maybe so. I don't know.I just know if people died while at a special event to see my movie, I'd figure out some way to do something for them.

this is horrible and i really think we have gone off the deep end people just do not have any decency to others anymore and it is pretty depressing
Sadly, it will not get better, only worse. After waterboarding this POS, they need to put 2 in the back of his head. No reason for this guy to be breathing 1 month from now.
:goodposting:
I would be surprised if he didn't get the death penalty (assuming he isn't found insane), but part of me always thinks death is too light of a punishment for people who commit these types of acts.

As I mentioned earlier, they'll probably give some money for a victim's fund of some sorts.

You gotta waterboard him to get into his sick mind. The fact taht it is a form of torture is a bonus. This country needs to ####### wake up, quit being ####ified and dispose of people like this swiftly. There can't be a human alive with a high IQ that thinks this POS should not die for this.

Pretty classless on ABCs part, IMO.
How so?
What good does it do to surprise the mother of the shooter with a phone call? Either she is going to be caught by surprise and had no idea what her son did or she is going to be absolutely heart broken by what she had recently heard about her son.

One of the people killed @JessicaRedfield. Her last tweet: "movie doesn't start for 20 minutes" :(

Jesus Christ I'm going to be sick...

So sad.

This past 4th of July, an MSU grad student was killed during the fireworks. In that they don't have a suspect. They don't think the shot came from in the park where the crowd was. Seems like someone with a rifle just shot into the crowd. With that person on the loose, I don't think I'll go to anything in Lansing with a big crowd for a long while.

That's stuff reporters do to out scoop the others. The reporters did the same with my family. And when we initially refused to talk to them they threatened to talk to all the neighbors. Which they ultimately did anyway. They aren't tactful about it. I hadn't heard a thing when I got the calls, "How do you feel about your brother's arrest?" and "Any comments on your brother's suicide?"

I don't get the mentality behind this. If you're going to shoot someone for your 15 minutes of fame, why not find someone like Sandusky and shoot him? There are tons of people that don't deserve to share oxygen with the decent people of the world, why not take some of them out? Arghhh.
