Sober February (1 Viewer)

Did this for most of January. Not too difficult if you're not a sot.
January 6th for me.
I'm amazed too & I can't believe you are going all year.

I think until March sometime is plenty to prove your sobriety.

True drunks can't even make it a month.
For the record, I didn't. I went on a few dates in February and drank on those. Didn't want to be 'weird sober guy' while dating. I took a stripper out for Valentines Day that year. There was no way I was going on that date armed with Diet Mt. Dew and Fresca. When I went up to Seattle to party with my old fraternity brother by mid-month February, the locks on the liquor cabinet were blown off entirely, culminating in a Saturday night that ended with two portly escorts banging on his front door attempting to wake up the two drunks who had called them off craigslist at 3am. My buddy paid them just to leave. I never left the sofa and he was 30% certain I was dead. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: A month later, I was dating my current wife and very much in love. Laying off the booze for about a month after my divorce was a great thing for me. I needed to get my mind right. I drink a lot less today than I did in my first marriage, though I still have an occasional wild night here and there....I just don't seek them out actively like I did when I felt trapped in an unhappy marriage.

Good luck to anybody laying off the sauce. It's hard to do and I don't know that I'd ever give it up for good....but I'm glad I took a brief pause in Jan. 08.

Thinking about giving up booze/beer in general.
What did you do?
Nothing. Just at a point in my life where I rarely drink(usually on vacation in the summer). Buddies from college drink all the time but I rarely see them. Usually hang out with parents in my neighborhood or friends parents of my daughters. Hardly any drinkers among them. Went to a SB party on Sunday and just drank diet coke. It really didn't bother me.
If you already don't drink much at all, why would giving it up have any value to you?I don't get it. What benefit would come from giving it up the few other times you consume it? And would it really even be hard to do?
This is what I was thinking.I don't get it.

Why would you do this to yourself?
I drink plenty and my liver needs a break. Plus I've lost half of the 20 pounds I've been looking to lose. You never know when Mrs. SLB v2.0 may come around.

Thanks for your honesty. Four years later.
:hifive: I'm doing it this year.

Just upped my daily walk from 6 miles to 8 miles. Feels so good. Plus, in addition to giving up booze, I've also given up smoke, smokes AND fatty foods. Every meal I've eaten in the last week has been less than 10 grams of fat and many of them 0 grams. Well, some of them have had more but that was when I had smoked salmon but that is the "good" fat right? The grocery store by my house has a giant smoker in the parking lot and apple smoke Norwegian salmon is part of the menu. Holy Gadzooks is it awesome.

If I feel like it, I can have the will of a Tibetan monk.

Now I'm going to bust out the chainsaw and do some cleaning in the woods behind the house.

How old are you guys? I am 29 and drink regularly, but feel great and doctors say I'm healthy as can be. Should I be looking into cutting back? At what age does one consider taking a month off to detox?

Repeat after me: Everything in moderation. Go get 'em SLB!

and I just got done. First I cleared all of the dead wood. Then it was the chainsaw. After that it was the hedge trimmer and finally the weedeater. Then I blew the rest of the debris away. Then I cleared out the rest of the dead wood I missed that was under the leaves. Oh yeah, I also built a small stone sidewalk during all of this while with material leftover from some of the landscaping I had done but isn't finished yet. (Pics to come in the Otis thread or GMTAN when everything is finished.)I've been moving pretty much non-stop since 9:30 this morning on nothing more than two pro-biotic yogurts. I'm going to go hit the Jacuzzi tub.
what about weed?
That's illegal but stone cold sober.

I am 33 and I am enjoyong having energy that I didn't have before. I don't have a real plan to go a certain amount of time but I've gotten through a bunch of social stuff with no problem already so who knows. I want to see how much better shape I can be in for my tennis ladder and pummel fools this spring.

Well, made it all week and about 4 hours ago I realized I only had 12 days to go and that didn't seem too bad. However right now thanks to a variety of things, I feel like going home and POUNDING a fifth of JD. But I won't. I may have to smoke a stoogie though.

I've continued my 8 miles a day so that is 6 straight days of that and I've lost a belt size. I plan on doing this until I feel ready to move up to 10 miles a day. Really looking forward to March though.

ETA

Oh yeah, I've finally gotten used to sleeping with the CPAP mask too. I started with a small goal of wearing it for 2 hours, then 4, then 6 and now I wear it all night. I have to admit that I haven't felt this good in a long, long, time.

Awesome!

I have not had a drop since New Years Day and will not have a drink until next Sunday on vacation. For the last several years I have reduced the drinking to just a beer or two here and there during Jan & Feb but this year I decided to totally go dry for two months. This is the best and easiest time of year to do this, after the holidays and before the warmer weather kicks in. I do this as part of losing weight before our traditional beach vacation but also for health sake and to prove that I can.

It has paid off so far, between eating healthy, no drinking and exercise I have lost about 23lbs since new years. I will make up for all of this at the all inclusive in Mexico!! I remember saying back in my younger days that I really enjoy my beer and always wanted to keep myself in check so I never get the word from the doc "you must stop drinking".

it never happened, like you said, it was a bit crazy for me to do that.

I've gotten some strong hints so I've dialed it WAY back. I'm actually enjoying a lot of aspects of being sober. I'm getting a crapload done. Lots of cool landscaping done at the new house. Can't wait until it's all completed so I can have a party and get wasted.

SLBob>Really glad to hear about the CPAP. Unrelated but serious question: How quick do you go through a pair of shoes? You're logging real miles in them weekly, how often do you go for a new pair?

I burn through them pretty fast. I need to order a new pair soon because I can feel them breaking down. I would say around every 3-4 months.

Well, that's about a wrap. Another February gone.
Holding out until Central time or Moscow time?
I honestly don't miss it and have gotten a TON of things done around the house. I have a St. Patrick's Day party Saturday night though so I'll be getting wrecked sooner or later.
Your honor, please direct the defendant to answer the question.
Meh, I'll wait until Thursday or Friday but I'm doing the bills and could REALLY use one.
I shall have many beers tonight to celebrate your accomplishment
:hifive:

sort of with you. The Wife started us on a 28 day strict paleo diet, mostly to simply reset the ole' hormone levels and reset our diets. That, of course, means no booze. Today is day 7, which means I didn't have a single drop during the superbowl.Agreed that it's probably a good, healthy thing to do every once a while - just let the ole' liver heal up and shake up some bad eating/drinking habits.

Always wanted to try for Lent but with Daytona, hockey & March madness I just haven't been able to make it.

I'm going for this next month. Already dreading it. Good thing I have gotten ridiculously drunk the first few days of January. I think the plan may to just be Hungover for the entire month of February

While the shortest month, I can't think of a worse month to not drink during.

Except a few of the others.

Starting tomorrow, I am trying to go until next Sunday's Bronco game without beer. It is going to suck....

But spite---yes, SPITE is a mighty motivator. My wife says I can't do it. I WILL prove her wrong....
