You really think the Blue Jackets are going to force a 7th game?
Great goaltending wins playoff games.
Didn't Quick just take the Kings to the cup as an 8 seed? Didn't a goalie in Edmonton do it back in in the late 90's or early 2000's? The Ducks made a run to the finals as an 8 seed as well with a hot goalie didn't they?

Just looked this up. CuJo, but not that far. Still a good point. I still think Canada/USA as 1-0...is...well...pissing me off. :)

Rollie the Goalie and Edmonton were an 8 seed. No 6th or 7th seed has ever won the cup btw. Kings are the only #8.

Blue Jackets are not going to be as quick an out as a lot of people think, combined with the fact that Pitt hasn't been playing all that great lately is making me think this will go the distance. As DD stated good goaltending makes the biggest difference in the playoffs.

CuJo? huh?

Oilers were an 8 seed and went to the finals in 2006 with Dwayne Roloson in net for most of the way. They were the first 8 seed to make it to the conference finals since 1994.

Ducks were a 7-seed in 2003 and rode Giguere to the finals before losing to the Devils in a 7-game series. He still won the Conn Smythe.

Are there 1-8 seeds anymore or are you guys just piecing it together? I thought they got rid of that.
Yeah, we've got it. First overall plays eighth overall, actually. Then divisions. Right?

Boston/Detroit is a perfect example of the first round 1-8 match-up.

They did, but I guess you can call the lowest WC teams the "8 seeds" for simplicity's sake.

That would mean Detroit, and not Columbus, however.

Oh. Okay.

there are not, but the top team plays the 2nd wild card and other division winner plays the 1st wild card team. So, those match up pretty well with 1, 2, 7, and 8. It's the 3 vs 6 seeds that don't really fit as well now.

Teams are still seeded one to eight though. If Montreal and Philadelphia (two #4 seeds) make the ECF, Montreal gets home ice.

Cannot wait for when Colorado meets Chicago in the second round.

Every expert will say Chicago wins the series in a landslide.

Colorado spanked Hawks this year. As a Hawks fan, I feel lucky they are playing St. Louis.
No they didn't. Varlamov stood on his head. The Avs are a small favorite over the Wild for a reason.

Avs have the weakest defense in the West.

3/6/14 - COL 4, CHI 2 (4th goal was an empty netter)

shots were 38-21 in favor of Chicago. Colorado only managed 3 shots on goal in the 1st period.

3/12/14 - CHI 2, COL 3

shots were 39-29 in favor of Chicago. Raanta was in net.

1/14/14 - COL 3, CHI 2 (in OT)

shots were 48-26 in favor of Chicago.

12/27 - CHI 7, COL 2

shots were 37-18 in favor of Chicago. Giguere got the start and was pulled after giving up all 7 goals.

11/19 - CHI 1, COL 5

shots were 37-23 in favor of Chicago. Crawford got the start and was pulled after giving up 3 goals on 7 shots.

Colorado did win 4 of 5, but they were outshot badly in every game.

Surprised to see the Lightning playing Paquette -- only has had 2 regular season games. When they called him up I figured it was to give him a taste of the big time during some fairly meaningless end of the season games.

Pretty cool to see a packed house in Tampa

10th in attendance this year.
Only 19th in percentage of seats filled (fairer than to rank them ahead of teams with smaller buildings), but still 96.9 percent.
I don't think that's necessarily fairer at all. I mean I see your point, but but have the extra seats and sold a lot of them. If they had a smaller rink maybe they too would be at 100%.

I'm a Minnesota kid who saw the Stars leave and subsequently had no hockey team growing up. Moved to Chicago 9 years ago and have started watching the Hawks. But if the Wild play the Hawks, I don't know what I'll do. Hockey is the only sport that I've nearly transferred my primary rooting interest to a Chicago team...
