Star Wars Episode 8 Catch All Thread (1 Viewer)

I chose not to go into the last thread and knew nothing going into it. I think I will do the same for this one.

To bring over a conversation from the old thread to get this one going......

Historically, no Star Wars movie picks up where the last one left off.

Between 1 and 2: 10 years

Between 2 and 3: 3 years

Between 3 and 4: 19 years

Between 4 and 5: 3 years

Between 5 and 6: 1 year

Between 6 and 7: 30 years

How much time do you guys think will be between 7 and 8?

I found it interesting that Johnson chose to show what looks like the island as the very first glimpse of the behind the scenes for EP8 but I don't know what to read into that.

A safe guess would be 3 years.
I was thinking roughly this time frame too but then I was not able to make the Rey family tiein reveal work, unless it was done as some sort of flashback to the early part of those 3 years where we find out who Rey ties to.

Or they milk it till 9

Daisy Ridley confirms that the movie begins right where the last ended.

Instead, it starts off where "The Force Awakens" left off, as many figured, with Rey meeting Skywalker on the island where he's secluded, and she promises that from there, the Skywalker storyline will live up to our dreams.

Cool!

Not that there was a ton of doubt but did she just giveaway she was a skywalker?

I wonder how the opening scroll will work?  Perhaps it will focus on what Luke has been doing.

By the way, does anyone mind if we use this thread for Rogue One and Episode 8 or do you just prefer to keep it to Ep8?

They could have the "present" be months or years after the last film and have the opening scroll reflect that.  Then, they just start it with the scene on the island planet and then fast forward back to the present.

My guess us we see Luke and Rey do their opening scene and decide to start training together.  Then it jumps to the present where Kylo is doing his thing. and by the end Luke and Rey show up and kick ###.

With JJ and his infamous lock down mode gone, I bet we get plenty of hints in the upcoming 16 months similar to what Ridley gave above.

I'd recommend separate threads - as Acer mentioned some folks will avoid this thread until they see VIII but may want to discuss Rogue One.  Just my 2 cents.

If they're smart, they have something in Rogue Squadron that directly ties into E8.
    .. hmmmmm.. that movie takes place between Episode III and Episode IV .. Not sure how they could tie it into VIII.. :oldunsure:

Two most logical would:

1) expand on exactly Obi-Wan has been doing with hinting at the idea that Obi Wan is part of Rey's lineage.

or

2) give some sort of hint as to the origin of Snoke. If Snoke is Plageious......this might not a bad time for an Easter egg for that.

Rogue Squadron has its own very specific story.  I doubt they're going to be forcing any obvious Ep 8 ties into it.

Doesn't need to be a central theme to the story...hell, it could be a post credits vignette ala The Marvel Universe.  Plus, If Rey is Obi-Wans decendent and/or Snoke is Plagieus......those are mos def events that could be Easter Egged in Rogue Squadron.

Anybody watch Rebels? I've only seen about half of the season but the finale just now was amazing. You should check it out for sure.

Is it on Netflix or Prime? Somewhere else where I can stream it?

I don't want to devote that many hours to a cartoon.  Could the last episode be watched as a stand alone?

I saw about 5/20 episodes this year. I googled it all after and while I enjoyed it, I certainly would've appreciated it more had I known the backstory of the Vader fight.

sure, you can read the last 5 pages of any book or watch the last 5 minutes of a movie.  No one is going to stop you.

Rebels is an arc story, one episode affects the next.

In terms of total hours, it is pretty short.  Probably 22 minutes per episode.

Just watched the ending again. Super good. For any Star Wars fan it's a must watch IMO.
Haven't seen any of that yet. My son is 6, we will probably start letting him watch that next year so will watch that with him.

The show heavily uses the audiances knowledge of 1, 2, 3 and 4 to build its story and best moments.  Make sure your son has seen those 4 (or at least 2, 3, and 4) so that he will understand the basics of what rebels is about.

There is also one important character that crosses over from the series Clone Wars.
