Steve McNair, thanks for the memories! (1 Viewer)

Even though I was never a fan of the Titans or the Ravens, I have loved this guy's career. In my mind, the toughest QB ever to play. So many gritty wins, so many remarkable moments. And that final play in the SB when he got so close still breaks my heart. McNair truly graced the NFL with his presence, and he will be sorely missed.

But it's time to stop, Steve. You're clearly a shell of your former self. You're embarrasing your memory and your team. Noone wants to see it. Nobody wants to see you hurt anymore, either. Please retire now with grace, and we will all wish you a great deal of thanks.

haha, sorry couldnt help but laugh, but have to agree, its over. unfortuneatly he is now a product of b. billucks (cant spell his damn name) offense. cant believe he was considered an offensive genius as an offensive coord before he got a head coaching job. here is another dude who rode the coattails of randy moss, including the likes of culpepper, george, johnson, and cunningham.

As much as he sucks now, I really have a hard time remembering what he's done in his career. He's an embarrassment to the QB position right now. He looks like a homeless man's Steve Walsh out there.

Billick even saying after the game that Steve will start Week 10......he should be fired on the spot. Neither one of them deserve to have jobs.

You know, McNair had a pretty decent season last year. I can only wonder if he's really finished or if he just needs to find the right team.

No, wait. He's finished.

Troy Smith anyone? I wouldn't be surprised if sees some action this year. They have to realize if he has potential.

Who's worse, McNair of David Carr?

McNair is just too physically beat up to play anymore. His body has taken a pounding over the years and it has just made it physically impossible for him to play. He needs to retire. I will say he is one of the toughest players I've ever seen. But he can't physically do it anymore.

McNair has always been overrated IMO. He was a good, capable QB (you have to be to play this long), but nothing special.

His one memorable moment -- coming up a yard short in the Super Bowl -- was a product of his own inability to throw downfield earlier on the key drive.

Can you 'cc' this to Brian Billick, please? Youd be doing us all a big favor. :hey:

If McNair were in Charlotte, think of all his completions he has had to Mason....now transfer them to Smith...he'd probably actually be having a better year. Now put Carr in Balt.... :shudder:

:hey: Very well said. Was thinking the same exact thing last night

It's funny I had the same conversation with a buddy over IM watching the game last night. He's done. Was a great QB with the Titans and as a Steeler fan hated playing against him. He was fantastic on 3rd down and moved the chains at will. He had a great career but it's time to say goodbye.

I dont remember him ever being a very good fantasy QB. So imo he's always been junk.
Obviously you haven't been playing FF very long.Fantasy Football Data(from pro-football-reference.com)Explanation Year Rank ----------------------------1995 .. 42 1996 .. 33 1997 .. 5 1998 .. 4 1999 .. 12 2000 .. 15 2001 .. 7 2002 .. 7 2003 .. 7 2004 .. 32 2005 .. 15 2006 .. 17 2007 .. 31

too much short passing from the Ravens offensive coordinator. receivers aren't good enough. they couldn't get anything going on the ground.

made a very average Steve McNair look horrendous last nite.

he's past his prime for sure.. probably oughta be a veteran backup off the bench.

one of my favorite NFLers of the past decade but he's done.

I keep thinking that if Vinny and Warner are playing, McNair won't have to hang them up. But, he should. At this point, he's almost ruining his legacy.

well, Vinny and Warner are done.. but i think i get your point.McNair has just taken SUCH a tremendous beating over the years. he needs to hang em up for his future health if nothing else.

McNair looked awful last night, but there's nothing better for a down and out veteran QB than a matchup next week against the Bengals.

Is it really a lock that he starts this week?

I want to pick McNair up (as a bye week replacement for Brady), but there is at least some risk that he'll be replaced mid-game by Boller (no matter how bad the Bengals are).

I just traded Croyle for Boller based on Huard's performance. McNair shouldn't keep his job at this point. (sorry Steve).

McNair was done two years ago. Monday night it did not seem like he wanted to be out there.

When "mobile" QBs that depend on their legs are not mobile anymore, they are ready for the glue factory.

I thought the stats they showed were fairly compelling. About 4% of the passes he completes go for more than 20 yards. And that percentage has dropped every year. Sad, really.

Yeah, that Bengals matchup really worked out well in week 1: 20-34-203 0 TD, 1 INT, 3 Fumbles (all lost) 1 rush for 0 yards. I think that's a score of 0.12 in a large percentage of leagues' scoring systems.

Really hoping to get some homer info on the QB situation in Balt -- is McNair still going to start? Will he be on a short leash?

What do Vinny/Warner have to do with anything? They can still make all the throws. McNair can't. McNair got the gig in Balt based on reputation, nothing more. It's just fitting that this offensive guru Billick botched this so badly....signing McNair and letting go of Derek Anderson in the process. The fact that the words "McNair is still our starter" came out of Billick's mouth after the week 9 game is grounds for dismissal alone. What in the hell is he seeing out there? Billick's a gone man after this season & then him and McNair can continue their passionate love affair in the unemployment line.

The pressure will be on McNair on Sunday, especially because the game is at M&T Bank Stadium. If he fails to get off to a solid start, McNair could hear backlash from the home crowd.

In an online Sun poll asking which quarterback should start (more than 3,000 responded as of last night), Kyle Boller was the overwhelming winner, receiving 88 percent of the vote.

"It's amusing," Billick said with a chuckle about the fans' new-found support for Boller, who was once cheered by the home crowd after getting hurt. "[but] that's standard operating procedure. I've been at this long enough and seen enough of it that I always find it interesting."
McNair is under a great amount of pressure here and I don't think he's a good start even though he appears to be the starting qb going into Sunday. It'd probably be the Ravens' luck that he plays really well next week so that Billick sticks with him and then sucks for the next two games.

McNair has been horrible but the Bengals' defense has become pathetic. As bad as McNair has been I don't think he's a bad reach this week in start-2 QB leagues. I wouldn't touch him in any other league if I could avoid it.

Randy Cross on Sirius Morning drive.....

"The only difference between Boller and McNair is that the interception will have more velocity".....

:suds:
