Succession on HBO (1 Viewer)

Dialog is great. All huge dbags but everyone pulls off killer lines. It’s a genius dark comedy. Even blaring Nirvana was next level funny.

Wild guess but I think Kendall kills himself this season. The last season deals with the fallout of that.

Jeremy Strong is just absolutely phenomenal in this.

Gerri standing up to Logan was great, basically scolding him for not understanding the situation. and Logan's reaction was also great, looking shocked since no one ever talks to him like that. well played by both actors.

Him killing that guy has to come into play right?

I mean that wasn’t really a murder was it? The kid grabbed the wheel, should have let Kendall hit the deer. It’s been brought up twice this season, Marcia to Logan and then in a roundabout way when they sent Colin to Kendall’s office. Logan did say in response to Marcia something like he thought it would hurt him too, so maybe that was their way of explaining why it won’t come up outside of the family this season.

“I gave you a destination. I can’t walk you there, okay?

Nothing is a line. Everything, everywhere, is always moving, forever.”

^ Great lines from Logan to Shiv

Its kind of become a show of one-liners.  Still a must-watch show for me, but its time for something to happen to move the story forward.

Also, the Greg character has gone from decent comic relief in seasons 1-2 to the worst on the show. He's always been incredibly stupid and greedy, but he can't even speak to an adult anymore - just completely useless as a character on this show.

Agreed. It's disappointing how little the characters have developed.

So what gave Kendall the guts to just completely disregard the blackmail Logan has on him with the dead waiter? Just the idea that if Logan tries to go public his own role in the coverup is at risk of coming to light, or does he think the visit to the parents ended the threat somehow? I feel like I missed something.

I have a question here, that is in this sphere.  At the moment when this happened the valet more or less grabbed the wheel and pushed the car off the road, which more or less put them in the drink? I sort of forget how that went down.

Right. Kendall was obviously messed up, but the other kid grabbed the wheel and freaked out because something was in the road.

I've said before in here - the writers may well try to make something out of this, but I think the worst Kendal would ever face in the real world would be some form of "leaving the scene of an accident" charge.  He's the only living witness. There's no way to prove his mental state or the circumstances of the accident. In a sense, it would be worse for Logan since he was largely responsible for the cover-up, and he's now facing heat for covering up a different crime.

I think the siblings band against Logan when it comes out that he was the one who played "Rape Me" at the town hall.

no reaction to yesterday's episode?

I don't know if it was the 'best' episode, but to me it was definitely the funniest. I had to go back and listen to some of the exchanges and one liners over again.

I've seen a few people say this. Why do you think that? Seems pretty clear that Kendall did that. He gave his guy the shopping list for all the equipment.

I still really enjoy the show, but I think its struggling to combine comedy and drama.  I think very few shows have been able to pull that off over the course of several seasons.  The Greg character for example is just purely comedy at this point, and his one-horse act is getting a bit stale for me.  For me, its like if you dropped Chandler Bing in the middle of West Wing and made him the secretary of state or something.  Roman is still somewhat interesting, but 90% of his value as a character is delivering one-liners.

The acting is top notch - Brian Cox playing an old man caught in the throes of UTI infection disorientation was fantastic this week.  The kids and Logan's lackeys caving under the pressure of the vote deadline was really well-done.  I've seen that exact dynamic play out in real life a few times and I think they nailed it.

The shareholder meeting felt anti-climactic to me, I wasn’t a huge fan of the episode. Kendall is clearly losing his mind though, it’s getting harder and harder to see this season ending on a positive note for him.

Man I gotta say these last 3-4 episodes haven’t done it for me. Show seems directionless. They’ve gone from the big fbi thing to whoops nevermind and now onto another merger/acquisition with another d-bag all while the Kendall things drifts along.

I expect the Kendall situation will come to a head eventually but it seems like the show is just waiting for that to happen.

I really thought they were letting Kendal hit rock bottom, before we saw the rise of Kendal.  But now I don't know.  The show is just meandering.

Agreed. Definitely directionless right now.  But lets be real.....this show is MOSTLY about the one-liners and just the characters' general awfulness. I dont think too many people are too invested in the overall plot.

Unless they were to kill off Logan, nobody is ever going to succeed him.  So because of that, there's only so much they can do. Not a lot of room for permanent consequences (which is why nobody is going to jail, none of these big changes in the corporation ever happen, etc.)

Still enjoying it for the LOLZ, but I dont sit around all day thinking "OMG, I wonder what's gonna happen next!!".

Agreed. It got worse once I realized they have at least another season coming. Just directionless. Kendall is the only character that really has had any arc and they are clearly out of ideas with him.

That said, the rooster pic scene was hilarious. Most I've laughed all season.

They’ve teased Kendall committing suicide all throughout the series. He’s constantly looking over the ledges of skyscrapers…I remember at least 4 times he’s done so.

Now that his dad is just going to toy with him for the inheritance or buyout, the fbi thing was a bust, his kids don’t care about him, the waiter at the wedding story will be resurfaced…maybe they fire Chekhov’s gun in the finale and the last season deals with that fallout.

Jeremy Strong has been amazing this season even if it’s my least favorite.

Its been a fun ride at times, but is really going nowhere and the writers seem bored at this point.  They invent a new crisis each week then make it disappear a week or two later.  The Adrian Brody episode followed by the climactic shareholder meeting episode was an awful run.

Feels like it was a 25-30 episode show that HBO asked for 40 episodes of. Reminds me of season 6 of the Sopranos where they had to do the Vito storylines in order to fill time.

oh Roman, not the D pic to pops. his expression after he realized what he'd done was priceless.

while the plot is meandering a bit, the performances are still off the charts. the scene with Kendall and Logan at the dinner table was amazing. Kendall essentially calling his dad a villain, and then dad reminding him that he's no angel and has been protected the whole time. so great.

Tom is right about at the edge. his marriage is a joke, nobody gave a crap that he was going to jail, he's generally an afterthought, and also maybe hiding an attraction to Greg. he's gonna snap.

Greg is probably the only white 6'6' guy who was never recruited by Gonzaga. His rocks glass handling skills shows me why.

Surprised to see the lack of rabid activity in this thread, maybe because Otis has retired. Or finally succumbed to a bad reaction to his latest skin care regiment because he didn't towel his hands while on a Peloton.

How the Bro has finally been iced.

Holy Chrysler. That finale was outstanding. The final scene, and then the final minute, made me actually clap out loud. no spoilers, but damn. That was satisfying.
