Succession on HBO (1 Viewer)

I've also compared it to Veep, although Veep is more openly a comedy whereas Succession still tries to lean drama.  I think they also both peaked in Season 1, and by the end of Season 3 were both completely off the rails.
I think Veep was one of the top shows of all time.

Anything else good on Max that's come out in the last couple years?  Considering cancelling.  I swear to god I'll drive you off a bridge if you suggest Sex and the City.
I was a big fan of The Deuce.  3 seasons and done.  70s-80s porn/prostitution scene in NYC.  David Simon created.  Great writing and acting.

Also really liked Vinyl.  Only made it 1 season as they went way over budget and not enough positive reviews but it was fantastic IMO.  The pilot was 2 hours and directed by Scorcese, arguably could have been a movie in itself.  Again, I'm a sucker for good writing and good acting (prob why I couldn't get past the cheese factor in Billions.)

I think for the most part the show backed itself into a corner. Logan was either in charge or one of his kids was.  They lost the plot element having him in a coma way too soon.  That could have been a mid season 2 thing and would have let a lot more elements out.

I suppose I should re-watch, but what was the sequence of events that Tom felt was so necessary to get the boxes of cruise stuff burned right then?

That's exactly where I am.  Binging this hard
Yep. We have watched this entire series in the past couple weeks. Going to be bummed when I’m current. Writing and the actors have meshed so well in this season. Even the side characters have developed nicely.

When they had to take the imaginary cat from under the chair

Then Cameron dropped the line about Reagan’s UTI almost causing a war with Russia. So good.

IIRC Tom had just been given the job, the previous guy then dumped all the info on him in his exit interview, told him all the details were logged so good luck, etc.. Then there was something alluded to about the issues with the “Mo Lester” guy possibly surfacing so Tom just wanted the files destroyed. I don’t remember the specifics if it was one convo or event that triggered Tom.

For the show I think they just wanted to get Greg involved in something that would last awhile because he’s so good.

Just finished S1. What a show!

I am on Team Tom; I want him to be the grand winner. Also, Greg is like the idiot savant version of Littlefinger and I have done a complete 180 on him from Ep 1. Pretty sure this is popular sentiment, and I agree with the people.

My rankings of the Roy family

Connor > Shiv >>>>>> Logan >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Roman >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Kendall

More of a blackdot posting than anything since we're still catching up; just started S3.

Its technically not cheating since the sperm didn't leave my body was :lmao:   :X   :lmao:   :X   :lmao:

Tom and Shiv both look like they have aged 5-10 years since Season 3.

Looking forward to it, regardless!
I think S3 was pretty much filmed pre-pandemic and it's release was delayed a bit because they just had a couple things left they needed to shoot. So there probably was a 3+ year gap between S3 and S4 being filmed.

I’m happy. I hate it when shows hold on too long and leave me with a bad feeling. Go out when the story is over, don’t drag it out.

Yes. A good story is just that, a story with a beginning, middle, and end. Not, well let's see what we can make up now just because we've been extended for another season.

Glad to see they are putting an end date on it, but I am surprised they decided to call it after 4 instead of 5. I had always assumed Logan would die in the final season, now I’m not so sure. It doesn’t feel like there will be enough time for him to die and to deal with the fallout in a satisfactory way.

Ahhh, this does have its own thread. Cool.

Good start to the season. Can’t wait to see how the kids implode and mess it up again.

Gotta admit that I need a refresher on all the deals going down. A bit confused but still enjoying the banter and ball busting, especially Roman.

and Shiv has man hands.

Right now it is:

Sandi/Stewie: Waystar board members who want more from the Waystar - Gojo deal

The kids: Trying to take their money from the deal to buy Pierce

Matson (not sure spelling): Founder of Gojo who is buying out Waystar. Seems like he may be waivering on the deal going through altogether

Logan: Who knows what this guy is thinking

Tom: Looking fabulous and messing with Greg

It was pretty good tonight. Happy for Con finally. I had predicted for a while that was EXACTLY how the last ep was gonna go. I am pleased we get to see the aftermath carnage now for sure.

When they weren't showing Logan for a while, I was thinking it might be some kind of setup.
Had the same thought in the moment, but in retrospect I think they were giving the audience the same level of confusion and disorientation that the kids were experiencing. I’m reminded of a similar theory about the ending to The Sopranos
Good thought.
They really captured that first 15 to 20 minute or so haze that happens when you get news like that before you get your bearings and snap out of the initial shock. At least on my experience. It like a blur.

I’m not reading through the thread because I’m only in season 2. I just watched the Senate testimony episode. Tom just kills me.

“You can’t make a Tomlette without breaking some Gregs”
Zero spoilers, but there were some great plays on the name "Greg" in the most recent episode

Anyone here a Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan? They had a similar death episode (called, appropriately enough, "The Body") that also captured the overwhelming feeling of discombobulation that arises when dealing with a sudden death in real time. No one knows what to say, each person has their own weird way of processing the information, but it's all completely understandable. Anyone who's ever experienced something like that can relate to how completely awkward it is
