Summerpalooza VI: Return of the Rock Bands - And they say "He's in the Class A Team" (3 Viewers)

I'm elated to come through the Kupp/JT injured reserve window at 3-1. I can't remember going three weeks without a transaction in this league before. Totally weird season considering where it started.

You are about to crush.

Music post. Just got done listening to Side One of Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music. It's not nearly as radical nor as bad as they say. In fact, it sort of makes sense to me given all the feedback and sounds the Velvet Underground used. It's really the precursor to noise rock and acts like Sonic Youth.

Not bad. I didn't want to listen to the whole thing because it can get loud and grating, but I kind of get it.

Anyway, back to football.

If you liked MMM, Pat Metheny's Zero Tolerance For Silence is another slab of intense atonal skronk from a guy who's indisputably a better guitarist than Reed (although Lou is an excellent rhythm player).

It's not on Spotify but here's part 1 (of five :bag: )

Rock critic Lester Bangs wrote of Metal Machine Music: "as classical music it adds nothing to a genre that may well be depleted. As rock 'n' roll it's interesting garage electronic rock 'n' roll. As a statement it's great, as a giant **** YOU it shows integrity—a sick, twisted, dunced-out, malevolent, perverted, psychopathic integrity, but integrity nevertheless."

I don't know if I liked it. It got a little tedious and I was glad when I was able to take my headphones off and just chill in silence. But thanks for posting the Pat Metheny stuff.

As far as Lester Bangs goes, they were talking about that over at Steve Hoffman forums. His critique. Interesting that you post it unprompted.

@Northern Voice

how much would you have bid on Jameson if his suspension hadn't been ended early?

So happy I didn't know Jameson was available. That smarts. I cannot manage more than two leagues.
I drafted him with the intent to hold as a lotto ticket. Then stupidly dropped him in a moment of idiocy last week to pick up Kyler Murray (after he tweeted/X’d “soon”). :wall:

Lions don't seem to love him too much at this point. Not sure he's going to surpass Josh Reynolds anytime soon, tbh.
For sure that’s definitely in the range of outcomes. He’s definitely still a lottery ticket but it was not so much about wishing I had him, it’s more about who I dropped him for was a mistake. Given the choice again I’d much rather have him on my bench than Kyler.
I dropped Michael Wilson to waste $12 on Antonio Gibson
Speaking of which...

Added Michael Wilson, WR, ARI

Song: Wilson by Phish.

Not liking my chances this week.

Added

Brandon Powell - WR - Minnesota

Bud Powell - Swedish Pastry

Taking a flyer for my first pickup in a month.

Bud Powell was the greatest Bebop pianist. His solos swerve around the changes while he hums and groans along. He sounds a little like Monk on this number but a lot faster.

My team is not terrible but I don't myself getting out of mediocrity. Jeudy is my only real bust but for some reason, the team just isn't that good. It just lacks any real punch.

Tampa Bay DST

Idrees Sulieman - Now's the Time

Planning ahead for a bye week DST in week 7.

Couldn't come up with a Jazz song about Tampa, St. Pete, Buccaneers or Pirates so I'm going with Post-Bop trumpeter Idrees Sulieman. He was born and died in Tampa even though he spent much of his performing career in Europe.

In other news, my team from 2022 still stinks something awful. We're better this year, but it doesn't get any easier. If Jahan Dotson and my motley crew of TEs don't wake up, the season will be ovah.

I owe a guy for Rondale Moore. I have no real connections other than Arizona, and that's been played out. So on to the year 2000, when Rondale was born. I'm taking a memory trip down the music of 2000 and pretty much thinking that was a weak year for music, all things considered. I remember not liking it even back then. But there was darn good stuff, too. This one . . . well . . . the proverbial "we" is up in the air about it, but I'm inclined to call it great.

Kendrick Bourne - WR - New England

Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra - A Child Is Born

Possible WR1 of a bad offense? Oh yeah, sign me up.

"A Child is Born" is a beautiful piece written by the great Thad Jones. The Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra chaired by Jones and drummer Mel Lewis kept the big band tradition alive in the 1970s.

Added

Darrell Henderson - RB - LA Rams

Eddie Henderson - Ceora

I remember getting sniped on Henderson last year as my Cam Akers handcuff so here's my chance this season.

Eddie Henderson is trumpeter who made his name playing with Herbie Hancock in the 70s. This recording is from the mid-90s and was part of a tribute to the late trumpeter Lee Morgan. Grover Washington Jr. has a nice solo on the soprano sax.

Honest question, is Darrell Henderson in the NFL?
