Summerpalooza VI: Return of the Rock Bands - And they say "He's in the Class A Team" (1 Viewer)

Oh Damn, you did! And WHAT A SONG!!!

Heh. Thanks about the song.

As far as the player goes, even though I took him, I'm balking at the serious expectations for the rookie. The projections are staggering. I'm nervous about his usage, but I want to have a reason to watch him this year other than mere curiosity. Gives me an excuse. Bunch of places have him top ten and Draft Dominator has him at 1.08, so I took him, especially since I wanted to start with a guy that I think will line up all over the place and touch the ball quite a bit for Arthur Smith. That's the hope. Probably stupid to risk known first-round floor that early, but there's only one winner and thirteen runner-ups if you ask me. I want back in that winner's circle to tie ol' Eephus there.

I'm following Alpha Drafter Elvan Silva so I'll be drafting 12 rb's early. Compete with that!

LOL. Establish The Run, for sure. Is that a running joke of his, or is he seriously RB crazy in his drafts?

More a running joke ABOUT Silva, that he's a boomer RB bro. I think he has a certain Minnesota RB (no spotlighting!) about 30 picks ahead of where he'd normally go. And that guy's presumed backup about 100 picks ahead. The Underdog fanboys who only care about WR all used to work for/with Silva and kind of lead the narrative, but he plays into it for sure.

you saved me some agita

Glad to take a load off your mind, fine sir.

I don't mind if I help myself to the finest available, do I?

Barkley and Chubb are probably smarter picks because we know their volume will be ridiculous and their floor is higher. The circumstances and coaches just scream that they'll be used heavily. Both 26 and 27 in their last prime years and with coaches that love to run.

But so does Arthur Smith in Atlanta. They won't run Bijan into the ground as a rook, but I just wanted an excuse to watch him play, too. And heck, what if Art can't help himself and tries to ride this guy into the playoffs? He could be a league winner.

Anyway, I'm forking over the metaphorical cash to see the race.

you got the tea leaves perfectly right - Arty Farty are such a relic, he thinks the leather helmet were for pansies.

this kid is special, and he's in the leeg's best incubator for his talents ... i'd be floored (sans injury, natch) at anything under 310 touches.

if you didn't slather the Bijan mustard

By the way, I juuuuuust got this. After reading it about five times going, "What the **** is he riffing on about mustard?"

As always, it took me a bit to see clearly, but now that I'm there, I love it.

Bijan mustard. Perfect.

that's Gulden!

😁

1.10 - Cooper Kupp - WR - Rams

I've been listening almost exclusively to Rock lately in large part because of the Middle Aged Dummies threads so I'm returning to my 2021 draft schtick of picking Jazz songs with tenuous connections to football players. My team didn't make the playoffs that year but I enjoyed my playlist and have gone back to it a number of times since.

Bob Cooper - "Confirmation"

Cooper was a West Coast tenor sax player of the late 50 and 60s who recorded a lot with alto player Bud Shank. This version of a Charlie Parker song comes from a sextet session from 1958. The album cover has a certain mid-century charm.

I couldn't find any Jazz songs referencing grade 1 hamstring strains.

2 number 8 picks. Double slit experiment indeed.

I also need explanation of both song picks.

The Immigrant Song (about Norse mythology) is a homage to Kelce's nickname in the NFL (it's Zeus, but he's more a Thor, don't you think?)

My home league has been going 25 years, and I won once, in 2014. That year I drafted a rookie TE in the 13th round. He played no appreciable role in my victory (that was due to both Denver WRs, Odell Beckham, and Demarco Murray), but I started Kelce every week anyway.

I haven't rostered him since, so this is exciting.

1.10 - Cooper Kupp - WR - Rams

two-time champ here, eh?

easy to see why - best value of the first rd, no question.

just completed a 14 team $$$$ draft, where i hadt 3rd overall pick - i took Kupp with zero hesitation - best in the gig, and the most prolific fake football scorer when healthy (was leading all players in ppg prior to last year's injury, and that includes the game in which he got injured, i believe in the 1st qtr)

i diversified here with Chase, as i have Kupp in one other leeg, as well ... plus i never had Chase on a roster (or Kelce, for that matter)

tl;dr - he goodt

I wanted one of the last three guys who were taken. So...

1.11 - Stefon Diggs, WR, BUF

Incubus - Dig

Interesting you pick Incubus. Rick Beato did a breakdown of one of their songs, and the vocal melody line is all over the place. Very intricate. Guy is scatting all over the place.

Sing this song
Remind me that we'll always have each other
When everything else is gone

I really enjoy incubus. Especially their first couple albums.

1.14 Tony Pollard, RB DAL

Song: The Goldheart Mountaintop Queen Directory by Guided by Voices.

Led by Robert Pollard. Covered by Plinko favorite ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead.

2.01 Davante Adams, WR LV

Song: Everybody Knows by Ryan Adams.

A new-to-me favorite from the current Middle-Aged Dummies exercise. Also has the lyric "spinning out of control," which often applies to the Raiders.

Back to @Ilov80s

Well the guy I was considering last pick made it here anyway so it all worked out. This song could have worked for ARSB as well. Two of the best slot WRs in the game.

2.2 WR CeeDee Lamb

Slot Machine by Charlotte Rose Benjamin
I have him ranked the same as Adams but I didn’t want to start with two Cowboys.
Yeah that was part of why I took ARSB. I had Lamb and Pollard as 2 of the 4 guys I liked. I did worry if I took one, I might get stuck having to take the other in round 2. I think it all worked out well for us both. Pollard’s ceiling is massive.

2.05 - Jonathan Taylor - RB - Colts

Eric Dolphy - "Glad to Be Unhappy"

I have no idea what's going to happen with my fellow Badger but you need to take some risks in a large league.

"Glad to Be Unhappy" is a ballad composed by Richard Rodgers. Dolphy recorded it for his debut album on 1960. It was a quintet date but Freddie Hubbard sits out so it's just Dolphy on the flute with a rhythm section featuring the great Jaki Byard.

@Doug B

Hey guys, please PM me when I'm otc so I get an email alert and make you wait less for me. Crazy summer so less time to lurk like I have in the past.

2.3 WR Garrett Wilson NYJ

Jay Z - Empire State Of Mind

@Northern Voice
Will do. Also nice pick, he was the final of the 4 guys I was looking to take.
i didn't think it would happen, but I was holding out the remotest of hopes that he would fall to my next pick. I think he could very well be WR1 overall.

I thought about this but decided I liked Pollard's risk/reward scenario better.
