Kee- I've been pretty much a ghost up in these parts the last couple of years tending to family stuff and just came across this thread. You and the Mrs- AND JACK!- have been doing an awesome job, and it appears that the FBG's community apparently has been doing what they do as well.

Sending up thoughts and prayers and best wishes to you and yours from me and mine.

I can imagine at this point the money is secondary to Jacks health. However, the fact that a college won’t help you guys through this tough time is BS
You would think they would offer credit toward future semesters at the very least. Maybe speak to financial aid department and see if they can offer some sort of comparable offset grant?

Hang in there keerock.

Ugh. Cancer, leave Jack alone! I pray Jack stays strong. He's got this at least half the way with the love and support he has. If anyone can beat it, it's Jack. I've seen those with a great support system just do better regardless. Those who don't or don't have anyone just don't. They tend to feel side effects worse because they are alone and of course, more depressed and stressed. Hope he can continue with his studies at home. I would think there is a way. Xxx

Jack is home and feeling marginally better.  Still has a slight cough, has lost his voice, and having trouble swallowing.  All side effects of the radiation.  Doctors expect his blood counts to drop dramatically from the chemo, but that hasn't happened yet... he has always tolerated chemo well so hoping this is no different.  They said this chemo would typically require a blood transfusion by day 8 which is tomorrow, but so far his blood counts are fine.

Next round of chemo supposed to start next Monday  :wall:

Biggest punch to the gut is we moved him out of his dorm room over the weekend... not likely he'll be able to continue this semester on campus.  Hoping he can do at least a few classes remotely.  He REALLY wants to stay in school... Luckily we've missed the cutoff date for getting a refund (smell the sarcasm there?).

Thanks for asking GB @Da Guru...
Sorry to hear of the recent set-back, but hoping the above are signs of steady improvement.

As to the cut-off, I believe the school has the ability to back-date the drop date when it's due to a medical condition (speaking as a former private university Controller).  Maybe try reaching out to the Bursar, Controller, or the usually-on-your-side Dean of Students.

Best wishes to you all.

We haven't tried to remediate, so I don't know that they won't.  They have been extremely accommodating to Jack in the past.
When you get the time I would contact MSU. I am (almost) sure they would work with you given the circumstances. I know you have other issues but it still is a good chunk of cash.

Hate to keep asking, but please say an extra prayer or two for Jack.  Spent the last week in the hospital with breathing trouble and they only made things worse (long story   ).  He's home now and we're getting him in tomorrow to start another round of radiation to target the mass in his chest.  But any extra prayers you have would be appreciated.

God, give this sweet child a break. Heal him into permanent remission. 🙏🏻

Re: the long story about him getting worse when we took him in...

He was having some chest pain while coughing so we called to see what the on-call thought.  Told us to go to ER to be safe.  We took him in and they immediately thought he had sepsis.  They came to that conclusion without all the facts.  He had no temperature, white blood counts were high because he just had neulasta that day (typical after chemo treatment).  So they pump him full of fluids (3L in 45 minutes   )

The fluids caused his breathing and heart function to suffer further and it took a week to get the fluids back out - scans confirmed effusion on both his lungs and heart

We are out of those woods now and need to get this mass in his chest resolved which the radiation will do.

Thanks much for the prayers and well wishes.

All the best to Jack and your family Keerock.

Sending you all strength to keep fighting the good fight.

GO Green

More love and prayers, brother. You all need some good juju- you've had enough of doctors and hospitals. Be well, peace and grace, man.

25 miles, so we're good.  Thanks brother...
That’s fantastic. Getting to sleep in your bed every night surrounded by your support system will be extremely helpful.  I think that proton facility is very new.

Were his BP's in the toilet? Tachycardic? That's a ton of fluid to put on him just for an elevated white count.
