T&P Please (2 Viewers)

Well... we've had a setback.  Jack started a "barking" cough so we took him in.  They did scans and found a mass in his chest pinching off his trachea and threatening his SVC.  They admitted him and started immediate radiation on the mass to shrink it and open up his windpipe.  We brought him home today, but he's still coughing a bit.  A couple more rounds of radiation and then a new round of chemo.

Poor kid... he's starting to get frustrated.  Until now he's been a real trooper.

Continued T&P for Jack please...

Ugh...I'm sure it's hard to keep hearing hang in there but hopefully the combined thoughts from fbg help push him forward in some way.

Sent, brother. God bless you all. Do you need anything?

Keerock-

I am not a frequent poster and never saw this thread.  Just read through it.  I am so sorry you guys are going through this and my thoughts are with your family. I hope the treatment works for him.

So sorry to hear about Jacks setback- I hope he's able to keep his spirits up. All the best to him and the entire caveman family. Thopraws of health and happiness.

I'm really sorry to hear about this setback.  Jack, and your entire family have my best wishes.  I wish there was something the FFA community could do to lift his spirits.  If there is anything, please let us know.  We would love to help in some way.

Sorry Kee I can’t imagine how this has hurt your family. I normally save my prayers for field goals so they might not have the same power as others but I just said a prayer for Jack and I gave it everything I had.

Keerock, my heart aches for jack and your family. Praying for each of you! As someone mentioned up above, if there is something the FBG could do to lift his spirits, let us know. I would do my best to be a part of it!

It’s been a January Jack. Fight through. We are here pulling for you.

Keep the kid positive and fighting.  Setbacks happen but he will overcome with the support of his friends and family.

Great posting.

I’ve no idea how I missed this thread for two years, but I’ve read the whole thing this morning and I’m blown away by Jack and the whole Kee family.  You guys got this.

Breaks my heart, so i can only imagine how Jack & you & your family feels. I wish you strength. I wish you hope. I wish you luck.

Yeah? Well the Allies had a setback at the Battle of the Bulge too. You know what happened next? They slapped the enemy right the #### down, that's what happened! :hot:

Cancer, you're about to be George S Patton-ed!

I'm sorry Buddy. Hang in there. Praying here for Jack and your family and doctors.

Sorry to hear about this, Kee. I don't have much experience with rhabdo (it's pretty rare), but feel free to reach out with any questions.

I saw a previous post where you said the quality of care was hit or miss- I'm curious whether your facility has primary nursing? Having a primary can help with communicating with the team, since they would be the most familiar with Jack and your family.

So sorry for this latest setback Kee. Attitude means a lot, keep fighting and it's ok for Jack to get down, but get him back in that ring fighting.

Thoughts and prayers are with your whole family.

Kee - just seeing the December update and now this;  I can't imagine what you and your family are going through. T&P send to Jack and to all of you.

Thanks everyone for your well wishes and your prayers.  Even though you’re “just Dad’s weird internet friends”, knowing he’s got support means a lot to all of us.  We keep reminding ourselves that every time he has a setback we power through it with the help of his doctors, nurses, family and friends (even the weird internet ones)

Thanks again... it is truly appreciated.

All of my best wishes to you, Keerock.  Get better, Jack!!!!!!!!!!

We’ll say prayers but damn that setback. We’ve lost multiple family members to cancer, so here’s to beating it again. Beat and get better!

Lots of people Jack has never met pulling for him, tons of good vibes floating around out there heading his way. Stay Strong

Update?  Hope things are heading in the right direction.
Jack is home and feeling marginally better.  Still has a slight cough, has lost his voice, and having trouble swallowing.  All side effects of the radiation.  Doctors expect his blood counts to drop dramatically from the chemo, but that hasn't happened yet... he has always tolerated chemo well so hoping this is no different.  They said this chemo would typically require a blood transfusion by day 8 which is tomorrow, but so far his blood counts are fine.

Next round of chemo supposed to start next Monday  :wall:

Biggest punch to the gut is we moved him out of his dorm room over the weekend... not likely he'll be able to continue this semester on campus.  Hoping he can do at least a few classes remotely.  He REALLY wants to stay in school... Luckily we've missed the cutoff date for getting a refund (smell the sarcasm there?).

Thanks for asking GB @Da Guru...

Hope he gets better. If $$$ is an issue, I can’t imagine any college not willing to work something out with you based on these events even credit for a future semester. Not something you are worried about right now, but hopefully all the treatments go well and you can take time to have that discussion.

Been dealing with a serious situation in my family as well this winter but certainly nothing close to this. It is such a cliché but I found out that it is very true....we have to take things one day at a time and get through it and hope the next day is a little better. Just keep pushing through this as tough as it is. As I found out the people around us need strength to keep on.  I am sure Jack is drawing that from you.

I can imagine at this point the money is secondary to Jacks health. However, the fact that a college won’t help you guys through this tough time is BS

Me 94yo Ma, who has said a rosary for Jackrock every day for the last year and a half, began a Novena for him when you posted news of his reversal and will begin another ahead of next wk's treatment. Praying is about the only thing she can do anymore, so she does it with great fervency.

My heathen heart can only wish Jack the very best and be thankful he has a family who understands the blessing of every day.

Thanks GB... that brought a tear to my eye (ok... several tears).  I appreciate her and would hug her if I could.

We haven't tried to remediate, so I don't know that they won't.  They have been extremely accommodating to Jack in the past.
