TE Mark Andrews, BAL (1 Viewer)

he was dropped Sunday morning by my opponent....who lost to me by less than 1point. I only have Kelce, so now I'm going to finish him off and FAAB that sweet *******.

Won my week with Juwan Johnson and benched Andrews.
Is he now must start moving forward?
Feels like next week is a Flowers/DHop redzone game and we’re back to week1-2

The return of Mark Mandrews.
Was it me, or did he look more athletic and beastly downfield than he has in a long time?

In other words, is this the return of TD dependent Mark Andrews of last year?

Or the return of Mark Andrews in days of yore?
He was good last year too - he was just coming off injury to start the season.
Sure he was solid for fantasy in 2024 because of the TDs.

But.

In 2024 he had 55 receptions.

In 2021 he had 109.

I'm trying to figure out if that injury lingered longer than we think because last year's TD dependence is what drove his value down this year in the first place. I'm trying to figure out which Mark Andrews we began to see last night.

He had 2 major injuries to start the year. Coming off a bad busted leg/ankle and then a car accident.

Go back a year and check my posts.

As for TDs - he always catches TDS. Lamar loves him.

The Mark Andrews we saw is the same guy he's always been. He's a good player. He looked good last year too once he finally got over his injuries. He missed camp last year due to them.

Biggest thing to me is the difference in the defense when contrasting those two seasons, last 3 years they had a top 10 defense and were literally one of the bottom 3 teams in offensive pass attempts. 2021 their pass defense was terrible, and they were a top 10 team in pass attempts. The lions were mostly unstoppable last night forcing Lamar to sling it and Andrews benefitted (would have thought would have happened in game 1 too for Andrews but no such luck.) Statistically the Ravens are the #31 defense after 3 games but that will probably revert some after these two high scoring affairs facing the Bills and Lions.

Yeah, he looked pretty spry. Maybe another year away from the injury helped.

Andrews is 30, but he could have at least a couple strong seasons left after this year.

If Lamar is going to throw around 40 TDs again, where are they going to go?

It seems obvious to me that Andrews is going to get a bunch of them no matter the number of receptions.

Flowers
Bateman
DHop
Likely
Wallace
Andrews

Lots of mouths to feed + Lamar/Henry will take some goaline runs of their own.

Of the lot, Andrews has the best TD numbers in the past few years. And it’s not really that close except Bateman with 9 TDs last year.

As a Kittle owner looking at Andrews in waivers I'm interested.

But with Likely coming back I don't know.
.
Also, is DET just flat out terrible against TEs? I have H. Fannin who faces DET next and he's one of the best matchups per PA in my lineup this week where I have Kittle.

If yes, another reason to fade Andrews.

This is true, there are a lot of mouths to feed now with Bateman healthy and playing more as well as Dhop. Lamar spreading it around but Andrews is still one of his main guys in the Red Zone.

Lamar loves Andrews and he may need to be more TD dependent but like I said he has scored a lot of TDs over the years. I think he has 53 TDs in his career. Couple more TDs and hes in the top 10 all time.

Fun fact - Andrews has the most TDs from 2019 to present. More than Kelce and more than Kittle. But he's TD dependent! Ok?

This MFer has scored a billion points on my bench over the past two years. I'm so friggin pissed at myself and everyone involved in starting week 1, Andrews, week 2 Hunter Henry and week 3 Kraft.

Interesting info. You are correct Andrews is 2 TDs behind Ertz for #10 all time.

A few random thoughts:

I started him in the 2 leagues I own him and felt reasonably good about it though it was bittersweet, will explain the bitter part later. Andrews metrics for getting separation last year was actually kind of elite and it made no sense to me he went over the hill within weeks of turning 30.

The narrative his slow start last year was injury related does NOT hold up to me. Have discussed this ad-nauseam in this or the Likely thread this off-season. He ended the year getting less snaps then Likely was getting, though he was getting targeted more then Likely.

Bottom line to me is he's still very good, but the reality is they got the best RB and WR of the Lamar era and another very good TE and the situation around him has gotten far less conducive for targets. He's still very much TD dependent(especially relative to other TE's in TEP format), he and Likely are much better Best Ball or no-PPR type players who will both be extremely inconsistent. He's not back to being old levels of Mark Andrews production, not remotely close, even if his play has fallen off little to none.

I mentioned it was bittersweet seeing him have that good game because he was actually cut in a big TEP league of mine on Wednesday. A league where I'm not strong at TE, have both Lamar and Likely so he made a ton of sense for my team. Despite having him in 2 lineups I was kind of hoping he's have a quiet game. I was ready to spent about 15% of my allotment on him, but his price just soared up way to high and I'm going to let someone else go nuts chasing those points.

Is it a dynasty/keeper league? If it is I would try to scoop him up and even trade him.

I'm still a fan of Andrews and if BAL decides to move on he could find a good home and still have a good 2-3 years left.

I tend to think of starting decisions in stretches. Playing matchups might net more points long term and it might also leave you with benching the best performance more often than not. I try to stick with guys. Case in point, Andrews and I’m going to stick with him until Kittle gets back unless he gets injured. Last night was enough to reinforce he’s as good as an other options available to me except Kittle once he’s healthy.

No, it's a national redraft contest, an FFPC Main Event to be exact, and does not allow trading

Like Ertz who is still making weekly appearances here and there in the Top 5-10 TE points for the week
Last 7 games of '24 plus the first two weeks when Daniels was QB 38/360/8 TDs last 9 games of the regular season coming into last week

He looked strong last week, not sure why he isn't part of the game plan or why he and Flowers can't both be productive simultaneously.
Baltimore never seems to have balance on offense, slants heavy run and then they really need to throw the football, seems like they have a much harder time executing

With Fannin on a BYE I dropped Hunter Henry for Andrews. Really hoping with Lamarr back he can get back on track a little. Last year he was awful the first half of the season but then ended the last 8 games on nearly a TE per game basis apparently.

I am not expecting that but hoping he can be a decent starter this week vs. a bad Dolphins D.

Thoughts?

I'm still riding the belief that Andrews is good. Great time to buy or pick him up if he has been dropped now that Lamar is back.

Is Andrews still a trade target for teams before the trade deadline? What team would be his best landing spot for fantasy? If traded I hope he goes to a team with an elite QB obviously.

Good question, I do think that BAL still believes they can win and get into the playoffs. If that is the case they will keep Andrews unless they feel they can fill a big hole/need. I think the number of teams looking for a TE is fairly small but never know.

BAL likes Andrews so my gut feeling is they keep him. Maybe this offense gets going once Lamar is back.

EDIT - if he goes somewhere he would need a good QB and an offence that uses their TEs.

Amen on the edit you made.

Thanks, that is the thing with BAL - Lamar loves Andrews and BAL will use him in the red zone. I'm hoping for a bounce back.

Side note, Rest of Season who you like better: Hockenson or Andrews? Both underperforming. I think I lean Andrews due to QB play.

Yeah, if you held a gun to my head I would choose Andrews over Hockenson also. The thing is, Baltimore also likes Likely and could move on from Andrews very easily.

They definitely could move on from Andrews, I just have a feeling that would be after the season and not during. Again unless they get offered a player they can't resist.

I have no other info except to me it makes sense for the team to keep both. We might not like it for fantasy but the team is better with both Likely and Andrews.

I don't disagree, they may not trade him, but that was one of the early rumors since people started talking about the deadline. However, Baltimore may not see it that way at all.

Urg man I am truly battling if I should keep Andrews in my starting lineup for tonight. He's been so bad and I have read Ravens fans saying he looks noticably slower this season.

However Lamar back, good matchup... Not sure what to do.

Since Likely returned the snap counts have been:

Andrews- 123
Likely-122

It's a lot like last year, only he might have slowed down a little more but main thing is he either scores a TD or you are in for a dud.

Maybe this is normal for most leagues and TE's, but not 1.5 TEP leagues where I put a lot more value on being more involved.

I am starting him myself in two leagues, both 1.5 TEP, but only because all my other TE's on those teams with exception of Likely are out. Only reason I even have him on those two teams is because I did early drafts and took him on idea he might get traded. This TEBBC is worse for Likely, but blows for both of them.

I sure wish Andrews wasn't playing on TNF so I had more time to see how the Bears injuries play out. If Kmet were out and say 1-2 WRs I would gladly start Loveland over Andrews.
