Looking for some inside info from our local FBGy's if Carney still has the PKer job?

Is Hartley doing the kickoffs for now because he has a stronger leg?

Thanks!

Carney is supposed to be kicking but watch the inactive list when it comes out. If both are active, Hartley could kick from farther out.

It's supposed to be Carney.

But who knows the first time out (saying that if it was me I'd go ahead and start Carney and feel good about it, especially in this game).

At some point in the season, maybe an outdoors game, I wouldn't be surprised if they go with Hartley just for a spot game (Coughlin did that one time last year with Carney, benched him for one game).

Hartley's not even needed for kickoofs and the idea is to hold him until next year while keeping him off other rosters.

Earlier in the week there was one a "tweet" from Jeff Duncan (N.O. beat-writer) who said Hartley would be inactive this week. I'd watch the inactive list to be sure.

 Thanks Guys, I wont be able to change my line-up after 11am. And I don't like Bironas this week as my option. I've got confidence now!

They are keeping Hartley on the roster bc he's their kicker of the future. But he'll be inactive for the time being, Carney is hot and they don't care (need) to try 48-52 yard FGs.

Carney will be kicking FG's...... They MAY let Hartley kick from beyond 50, but Carney IS the man
Actually it is Moorehead, the punter who will kick from distance (likely over 52-55 yd). He's also handling the kickoffs. Sounds like the plan is to ride Carney till his leg falls off this year, and hold Hartley as the "kicker of the future"

This guy is drinking away a good thing -- if I'm the Steelers I'm out looking for a new kicker today.

And he was looking for a big payoff in FA ... not going to happen now, dummy!

Steelers kicker Reed cited for public intoxication

Monday, October 19, 2009

By Dan Gigler, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Steelers kicker Jeff Reed was given a citation for public intoxication and disorderly conduct around 9 p.m. last night outside of McFadden's bar on the North Shore, according to Pittsburgh Police.

Police said that he will be mailed a summons to Pittsburgh City Court.

The incident occurred several hours after Reed kicked two field goals in the Steelers 27-14 win over Cleveland at Heinz Field.

Earlier this year, Mr. Reed, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and criminal mischief after police said he damaged a paper towel dispenser and harassed employees at a Sheetz convenience store in New Alexandria in February.

In that incident, witnesses told police that Mr. Reed, 30, went into the store bathroom and then became infuriated that there were no towels in the dispenser. He began banging on the dispenser and hurling profanities at employees, even after leaving the store.

Mr. Reed received a summary citation and was fined $543.50, which includes $210 in restitution to the store.

I worked at a popular bar in the South Side and have a number of friends who are bartenders in the area. There are many more stories involving Jeff Reed and drinking than are reported in the papers. The general public only hear about the ones where there are citations written. I've said it for a while now, there is no chance that he will be brought back.... regardless of his successes in Heinz Field.

Saw a blurb about Viniteri being out and stover taking over. What are the thoughts here? I picked him up in one league and will likely pick him up in another. In the league that I have Kaeding, I will likely stick with him, but only b/c it is unclear whether stover will have the job for the rest of the year...

Thoughts (besides, he's a kicker)

good offense, lots of kickers on the bye this week. Good option IMO.
That's the only good reason, imho. The good offense aspect is slightly skewed in Indy. Actually, I think Indy kickers are over-valued in general. The fact of the matter is Indy was 26th in the league in FG attempts last year. So unless your scoring system gives you more than 1 point for XP, you might want to look elsewhere. The last 3 years the Colts have been 15, 19 and 26 in FG attempts (meaning, not even in the top 1/2) That's in large part due to their high efficiency in the redzone.

Picked him up and he'll probably start for me for the forseeable future. Drafted Bironas. Didn't work. Picked up Hauschka. Fail. So he may not be an elite fantasy kicker, but very solid. Vinateri scored 2, 9, 7, 10, and 7 in the first 5 weeks in a standard league (no distance bonuses). That's not bad at all.

I picked him up as Bironas is on a bye. Atleast he'll get near the endzone, unlike some kickers.
There's someone still starting Bironas?
I'm in a very deep league (16 teams) with very few other options. I attempted to get Elam on the WW after someone dropped him during a bye week. He was the Titans sole points scorer against the colts! :)
Oops. Sorry, should have noticed your sig. Not much you can do. Sad thing is, I thought he'd be a lock for Top 5.

If was a tough choice between him and Carney on the WW. Both are dome kickers, but went Stover because of the Hartley situation.

Agreed. Was a tough choice, but grabbed Stover for 2 reasons1) Hartley will likely attempt all FG's 45 yards and over2) Carney may always be cut if the Saints run into roster issues since his role is so limited

Hmm, IND vs. STL… lots of redzone opportunities I’d think. Good matchup.

Optional reading: Quick scoring possiblities. Big lead probably. Using D. Brown late in the game to run down the clock with a mercy FG attempt or two towards the end of the game…

Stover long-term... hope he's still got it.

If anyone has large enough rosters to carry two kickers - if you pair Stover/Hanson, you can make it the rest of the year without ever having a kicker outside a dome. Just a little nugget for those who give a big nod to weather in kicking decisions.

Why did Adam lose the job? Is it permanent?
Injury. I believe the prognosis is 6-8 weeks recovery.
Thanks. Guess I'll just hold onto him as I'm sure he'll get the job back once he's healthy.
I am sure many people said that about Garrett Hartley too.
Meh, we carry two kickers. My other guy is Kaeding so I can wait it out.
My other guy is Hartley. (typing that made me feel like Charlie Brown finding another rock in his Halloween bag)

you realize the NFL has 53 man rosters, 8 are declared inactive on game day? Impossible for Hartley to kick FG's while he's 1 of those 8. Tough to have 2 kickers active as it would take another key special teamer away or depth at another position, etc...

It may be tough but it's not uncommon at all. In fact, the Colts did it several times in 2004-05 when Vanderjagt was used for FGs but another kicker was used for kickoffs.

:lmao: Stover would have to have his leg fall off for Vinatieri not to end up on IR well before hes ready to get back on the field.

Saints already have someone other than Carney doing kickoffs, Thomas Morstead.

Dear Shark Pool,

I was wondering if anyone has compiled kicker data for home/away splits. I was thinking that if there is a large discrepancy between home/away splits, it may be a viable strategery to always have a kicker in your lineup that's playing at home.

VIP, let's kick it.
