Does anybody have insight into Connor Barth? Should this weekend's 3-50+ FGs be considered a fluke? Is he worth rostering? How good can he be going forward?
Good question! Didn't see that until I read your post. Also what about Reed? He's on my WW and Steelers consistently put up pts. Is he a better bet than Tynes?

Any idea which guy they signed today? I read in the Baltimore Sun that they were signing one of the two before practice.

ESPN.com reports the Baltimore Ravens have signed free-agent PK Billy Cundiff (Browns), a league source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

anyone know any extra info about the Colts plans once Vinny is healthy?

this is a general question for those of us who might be in this situation:

Stover on wire, loathe keeping more than one kicker after all the bye weeks are over, BUT waiver claims shut off in the next week or two

is it safe to assume Stover will remain the rest of the year? He seems better, more accurate, and has a stronger leg? or am i wrong?

The Saints were in field goal range at the end of their last drive against the Rams, instead of sending Carney out to kick, they went for it on 4th down. It nearly cost the Saints the game. Carney was not too happy about it either. The thing is, there is starting to be signs that the Saints do not trust Carney in critical situations that involve a long FG. This might be an open door for Hartley sooner rather than later.
IIRC, they passed on TWO potential FG's. They've done this quite a bit this year and I'm none too happy about it (Carney owner). Cost me a win this week.
Payton has had this issue with Carney dating to 2006. He added Cundiff in the NFCC game for the long kicks and that ended up hurting the Saints there because Cundiff missed a big one. It's in Payton's head.Meanwhile Carney kicked the heck out of a ball that he missed in the Dome from 49. Probably would have been better for him if he had made it.But still Carney's like a good luck charm for the Saints, even though this year there have been some miscues, some missed short field goals and XP's.One big factor for the Saints kicking game this year is they lost one of the game's best deep snappers in a bizarre Ponzi scheme / movie investment scandal (no, seriously). Kevin Houser now resides in Seattle where oddly enough O. Mare's doing quite well.

From Jeff Duncan's Twitter:

Early observation from Raymond James Stadium, Garrett Hartley is warming up so the Saints will likely have two kickers active today.

New update from Duncan. Looks like a false alarm.

Sorry, Hartley will be inactive. He was just warming up. McAlister is inactive but Sharper is active.

He is sitting on my waivers and if he is close to coming back I would like to add him for my playoffs. Does anybody have any info on his knee and if he is close to returning? thanks.

This from Yahoo...

PK Adam Vinatieri says that his rehab from last month's minor knee surgery is going well. He hopes to be back on the practice field sometime within the next few weeks. Vinatieri is not pushing the time for his return, however. He will not be back in a game until he has been fully cleared by the Colts' athletic training and medical staff.

I bet a lot of owners are trying to maximize their rosters before the playoffs begin and I was wondering what a lot of you were doing with the kicker position?

For example, Tynes has been a great kicker all season but as mentioned in an article, the winds in the Meadowlands during December arn't very kicker friendly (same thing in Chicago)

Are there any kickers you guys are targetting? any kickers with good schedules?

Absolutely kickers matter... how many times have playoff games come down to one or two points this time of year?

This is the time of year to make pickups based on playoff matchups, etc.

for example, during the regular season, in our salary cap league, people tend to keep the cheaper "Flavor of the week" kickers, but now, the higher-salary better quality kickers get snapped up.

meh. I no longer do that switch kickers every week thing. I try to grab a kicker who;

1) plays for a decent offensive team

2) has a decent schedule weather-wise during the last few weeks

3) doesn't miss much and can hit the 40 and 50 yarders which are extra points

Had Crosby early this year, dropped him at his bye week, got Kaeding.

Ok, so you mean picking up Tynes off FA was a bad move? At the time he was #3 in scoring overall (before this past game)... it was either him or Cundiff! So far Cundiff is winning by a mile (after one week), but the whole winds thing and kickers has me thinking.

Wow you guys really are sharks... bunch of Tony LaRussa style micro-managers, even down the PAT, lovin' it!

i picked up Neil Rackers for the rest of the way out....cake schedule and pretty much all dome games. Only problem is the Cards are so hot in the red zone that he may only get PAT's.

INDIANAPOLIS

Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri may still be out with a knee injury, but his replacement Matt Stover has been solid as a rock. Stover has yet to miss a field goal and on Tuesday night, while taping The Bill Polian Show, the Colts president assessed the situation and how Stover's success affects Vinatieri's future. “What it does, it gives us the opportunity to make sure Adam is 100 percent healthy before he comes back. And then we'll make that decision at that point. Matt knows that this is Adam's job, essentially,” said Polian. “But Matt has done a heck of a job and, if anything should go wrong with Adam, we are going to give him every opportunity to get that thing 100 percent well so we don't get into a spiral where it's good for a couple of weeks and then bad for a couple of weeks. Matt's been phenomenal and I wouldn't be surprise if we kept him the whole year.”

Longwell is nice through week 14. In week 15 he is at Carolina and in week 16 he is at Chicago.

Kris Brown has a sweet schedule the rest of the way, but damn the friggin' guy misses more kicks than he makes.

He's the guy I picked up when Tynes had his bye, and I'm sticking with him. Tennessee's offense has been picking it up, he has good range, and has decent matchups with STL, MIA, and SD in weeks 14-16.

This is the only time of year I carry a backup kicker. Once rosters are locked you don't want to get stuck with a zero at the position because your kicker pulled a hammy. Of course, I've got Tynes and Gould, so I literally left my fate up in the air.

Make sure to have 2 kickers. Years ago I used the philosophy of 1 kicker on draft night, made sure to cover my bye week by making an in-season waiver move, then went in to the playoffs with 1 kicker. Well, my kicker got hurt and I had to take a zero ... and I lost by 4 points. Who knows if it would have been enough to get me the win. I would like to think so though.

I always make sure to make later waiver moves to have depth at K and TE just before the waiver deadline. D you don't need to worry about since they will 100% play.

Taking a hard look at Succop in a FG only league. He is third amongst kickers from Week 6 on and has Buffalo and Cleveland at home in weeks 14 and 15. Sitting with Longwell now but between Brett and their run game these guys score every time they are in field goal range.

How do you guys feel about Cundiff?
i'm going to try to claim him but only because i can play the match ups given my concern with Kris Brown missing more FG of late. Cundiff's schedule has some good matchups during a playoff run:week 12 vs PITweek 13 at GBweek 14 vs DETweek 15 vs CHIweek 16 at PITand for those with week 17 Superbowls:at OAK

Three straight home games, I like Bironas' matchups a lot.
Same, since Tynes bye I have been and will be rolling with Rob Bironas. Granted, he probably can't sustain this pace but 10 points every week from PK is huge no matter how you dice it...

The best strategy for kickers is find a good one early and ride him all season. If you try doing comittees you'll just get burned trying to play matchups and the like.

Me too. It was odd to just drop a number 1 player, but Bironas will be better the rest of the way. Tynes got snatched up pretty quickly, though. Yeah, good luck with Tynes when the winter winds come a blowin' in the Meadowlands.Just get a kicker who you won't have to worry about because of the weather. It's pretty much a crap-shoot after that.

Bironas all the way.

Strong running games and tough defenses with lots of bending but not breaking make for good FF kickers.

I dropped Tynes for him.

I screwed up by benching Jennings and needed 13 points to get back in the lead on MNF. Bironas got me 12 with 2 50+ yard FG's and had Brown not missed his had a very good chance of pulling it out in what would have been overtime. Lost by but 0.7, but I had a real chance.

Not a lot of guys out there with legit shot at monster long field goals or multiple FG's over 50.

Thanks Mike; I guess that means Vandy may not play?

[i'll assume you meant Vina and not Vandy]. Sounds like they're leaning towards letting Stover play out the year, and letting Vinatieri extra fully heal. Similar to what the Giants did last year with Carney (not to imply that Tynes and Vinatieri have comparable track records). Plus, with McAfee handling kickoffs, Stover is probably the Colts' best bet on placekicking anyway.
