****The 2019 Carolina Panthers Thread**** We Rhule At Losing (2 Viewers)

So another big win against a lowly opponent. Still some good things. I liked that so many people caught the ball. I believe we had 5 or 6 receivers with at least two catches. Cam has got to learn how to throw something other than fast balls though, need to work on the touch a bit. I like that we are sticking with the running game. Should have from day one. No better help for a QB than a solid running game. I thought Shula called a nice game with a few wrinkles for a change. And what can you say about the defense? Mitchell with a big day and TD looking like the TD of old. We have pretty much always stopped AP so I am not writing off yesterday to the thing with his son. We could have come out and let them use their emotion to get up like we did in KC last year but we played solid patient ball. Won't mean a thing if we lose next week though.

I laughed when one of the commentators made a comment that a rookie Viking shouldn't pick Steve Smith to jaw at.

I couldn't watch this game yesterday. What happened to AP's son is unimaginable so I took the day off from football to hang with the family. Maybe I'll watch the replay sometime this week. I was happy to see the win and it appears that they put their foot on Minny's throat and didn't let up, so that's good. What remains to be seen is Shula's ability to adapt during the game if the game plan goes out the window. I'll begin to have hope when I see that happen and when they win a couple close games. Anyone planning to go to the game this coming week?

Yeah you need a little experience before you go after Smitty.

Personally I'll be fine if we are never in another close game. Not sure why people keep asking for them. Why can't we just blow people out every week? I'm good with that. Not going to make the game this week but I definitely want to get to one this year.

I'd love blowouts too...don't get me wrong. I just know that the "great" or "elite" teams know how to win the close ones. That's what it's going to take to get to the next level. It's not really avoidable in today's game (unless you're Denver).

I'm not, but my parents go to all of the home games. My dad is a PSL owner, and man was he pissed when Richardson gutted the team, and had Fox coach with scraps his final year. Richardson sent a letter to all the PSL owners, but it was just a bunch of BS. My dad was not happy. Everyone knew Richardson was throwing that season away and prepping for the lockout, and the PSL owners had to pay for it. Anyway, my parents still faithfully go to the games whether the cats are good or bad.

I got rid of my PSLs a year before the lockout stuff went down. Writing was on the wall and I am in lock/step with your father with regard to Richardson. It's a weird dynamic to be fully vested in a team and really dislike it's ownership.

Hell yeah!!!

That was more like it. Anyone else notice how much better Cam plays when he's involved in the running game?

Mad props to either or both Cam/Shula for the flea flicker screen pass. Ginn also absolutely blew that guy up on LaFel's TD.

I was surprised to hear this, but Minny was 4th in the league in points scored before this week. Defense played well.

I don't think my dad really dislikes Richardson. He just dislikes what he did.
Well you know what he did was a business decision. At the end of the day this is a business. The problem I have is how they blew it. They had the cap cleaned out. They had holes all over the team. Instead of taking advantage they blew it by being to committed to current players and not being cut throat enough. That's when I got mad about it.

My dad knows it was a business decision, but when you are paying good money for season tickets, and the owner purposely decides not to put his best product on the field (plus gives his lame duck coach not much to work with), it can leave a sour taste in a PSL holder's mouth.

I forgot to mention the ticket prices were raised that year too, and when JR sent his letter during the season, the second paragraph started by saying "When the season began, we believed there was every opportunity for success." Everyone knew that wasn't true.

To be clear I don't blame any PSL owner for being pissed about it. Don't blame them at all.

Actions make the man IMO. All the lip service in the world doesn't erase actions. My relationship with him wasn't personal...it was business. I understand why he did what he did, but I don't agree with it...especially after he then blew the money as NCC already pointed out...just bad all around and it's when I decided to stop supporting him financially. I gave him my trust that he wouldn't screw his most loyal supporters. He did and I was done.

Carolina has proven they can play well on any given week. Man I wish they could play with that intensity and focus every week.

Rumors swirl about Nicks being on the trading block. Wonder if the Panthers will make a play for him. Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing them make a push for Justin Blackmon. Jacksonville might continue their fire sale, who knows?

I have seen it suggested we should trade Stewart to them for Nicks. If we could get that done I think it would be a good thing. They get a running back, which they desperately need, with low mileage. We get a guy who could replace Smith as the number 1 in short order. Of course Nicks is going to want to get paid big bucks I think and he is unrestricted next season.

So looking at the cap situation a Stewart trade would be financially a bad call by the Panthers. Would kill their cap space when they have lots of people to sign.

Looked seeing this team finally not lose their cool. Also one of Cam's better games. Deosn't mean anything if you can't follow it up with a win in Tampa.

If someone doesn't mind, I won't be able to listen to Smitty today and would love a recap.

Well look at us at 500 after 6 games. A new high in the Rivera/Cam era. 3 out of 4 isn't too bad I guess. Wasn't pretty but the defense delivered. The O-line held it's own against a pretty aggressive defense with the ability to get sacks. Cam was about as accurate as you can be. Only had two incompletes and one of those was on Smitty. Got real chippy at the end and screw Terry Bradshaw. I don't know how the Rams didn't end up with more tossed. Throwing punches on multiple plays and attacking our guy after a legal hit. Try to be just a little bit objective doosh.

I would love to hear this today. I have a feeling a certain cornerback will get some airtime. Talking crap about Smitty's wife is probably a bad idea.

Wow....I was out of town playing golf at Medinah (LOOK AT ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and on a plane when the game was going on. Just watched it last night. I'm digging the attitude. You could tell the Rams came out and tried to play the mental game with all the mocking etc but the Panthers were having none of it. I loved it!! Everyone looked to do their job on Sunday....even the O-Line. The coaches put the players in position to succeed and I thought the play calling was much improved. I hope they keep it up. If Smitty's press conference is any indication, the show today should be pretty good.

I was reading how the Rams offensive scheme was to stop the linebackers. Especially Luke. This left Star, KK, etc. one on one and they responded with good games. And there was actually an adjustment to what the Rams were doing so our line could get after them. Imagine that someone adjusted during a game and it was a Panthers coach. Someone get my fainting couch.

Don't look now, but the NFC hasn't quite turned into the bloodbath it was supposed to be.

Assuming the 1st WC goes out West, that 6-spot looks like it could be completely up for grabs (with one team losing it's QB for the season).

Also, it's pretty remarkable that CAR has the 3rd best point differential in the NFC. Grain of salt, of course, considering the opponents in wins. But curb-stomping bad teams is still better than barely beating them, I guess.

Dude, he has "low mileage" because he gets hurt. And please note the Giants will get a 3rd round draft pick as compensation for losing Nicks to FA. No way Stewart is worth even close to a 3rd round pick.

Dude until 2012 he had missed 2 games in 4 seasons. The ankle cost him 7 games in 2012 and 6 games so far this season. A lot of guys miss a season worth of games in their career. The reason trading Stewart is bad for us is the cap implications that are detailed in my next post on the subject.

I had front row seats in the endzone Sunday, and there was something different about these players compared to previous years. They weren't joking around before the game, and they seemed to have the kind of focus that we've all wanted to see out of them for years.

I'm not sure how much of this made TV, but when the fights were going on, you could see players around the edges pulling each other back and calming them down. That type of discipline was the difference between just a big fight and the Panthers benefiting from other players losing their cool.

I've always thought McDermott was a pretty good coach though. Never had any major issue with him. He doesn't get to draft the players...he's always done the best he can with what he's had.

Yeah I like McDermott. It's just kind of weird to see the Panthers doing stuff like adjustments and churning the roster to take a look at young available players. It's almost like we got a real football team here now.

:lmao: Agreed.

Nicks didn't look real good last night. Put a Lafel on his back and i couldn't have noticed a difference.

Any one Smitty on fnz?

showed my homerism today in one of my PPR dynasty leagues and traded Luck for Cam and a 2nd next year. Just feel like we've not seen Cam's best. At some point, they are going to HAVE to address the WR core don't ya think? Nicks and Watkins sure would be a nice boost next year ;)

What about Mike Evans, Texas A&M? He's a big guy (6'5, 225) with good hands and has shown he is a big game receiver that can take it the distance. He's had a couple of TD catches over 65 yards this season, IIRC. Sophomore in his second year in the SEC. Was redshirted in 2011. Manziel's favorite target.

Not sure I wouldn't take him over Watkins right now. Sammy is as fast as they come and has good hands, but he has a tendency to get lost in an offense that should be targeting him more. Though that could be more Boyd than Watkins.

But Evans has a monster game every time I see A&M play.

This really is shaping up as a great draft to pick up skill players. DBs and WRs a plenty. But yeah I'd love a big receiver like Evans.

A big reciever would be great for Cam in the endzone. Not sure where he is projected, but a guy like Kelvin Benjamin from FSU could be a good fit.

Benjamin is another one. Big and strong.

Sammy Watkins is one of the best wr I have seen in college in the last 10 years. I can think of only a handful that were more NFL ready then this guy. He is big, fast, tough, great hands and is aggressive in going after the ball. His route running is outstanding as well. He should be a top 10 pick.

He's 6'1, 200ish. By big WR I think more 6'4/6'5+

I've watched most every snap of Sammy's career and would love to have him on the Panthers. He will be a big time deep threat but not sure how he will be in traffic in the red zone in the NFL. I just wish we could draft the next Calvin Johnson or Brandon Marshall.

For a "big" WR, I like the guy opposite of Watkins at Clemson (forget his name). I think he's a freshman? Gonna be a player if he continues to improve.

Martavis Bryant? He's 6'5 but could add weight (currently 200 lbs). But he is very talented. He is a junior this year.

I really hope we can draft at least one of these big guys. Corners are getting bigger in the NFC. Everyone is trying to model on the Seahawks. You got to get at least one big fast guy on the outside IMO.

He is talking about Mike Williams, I think. Certainly has the size but needs to improve route-running and hands (hopefully not! ;) )

I just killed some time looking over some early mock drafts. 90% of them had Sammy Watkins in the top 10 and a few had the panthers picking him. I highly doubt we are picking in the top 10 this year and my dream of getting watkins is officially crushed.

Actually it's Bryant I was thinking of...not sure why I thought he was a freshman though. I guess I was getting him and Williams confused. I'll shut up now :bag:
