Gonna disagree on the last part, and from what I read the framework, at least for the Olsen deal, was done by GMan. Hurney just signed it.simey said:I think the contract negotiations Hurney had with Davis and Olsen were good and fair, and I also think him trading Benjamin for a couple draft picks was a good move too.
I'm sure Donald Sterling was very much on his mind. Sterling made out like a bandit on his sale, but in the meantime his reputation got completely destroyed (deservedly so). Richardson probably figures better to take the money and hope the story dies a relatively quiet death. I'm sure some bad details will still come out, but it won't become a national soap opera like Sterling, Weinstein, Moore, etc.NCCommish said:Actually it was probably done to preclude the NFL revoking his franchise. The team should fetch 1.5 billion plus if they revoke he gets nothing.
Sometimes the right move is taking the deal in front of you too.Gonna disagree on the last part, and from what I read the framework, at least for the Olsen deal, was done by GMan. Hurney just signed it.
By multiple reports, Hurney didn't talk to anyone else in the league about Benjamin. The Bills called, he negotiated with them and made the deal. That's incredibly stupid. You've got to cross check and confirm the marketplace. Teams like Cleveland, Washington, New England, etc. were looking for receiver help. That doesn't mean that the end result would've been any different (maybe Buffalo was already making the best offer), but we'll never know. Maybe one of those teams would've traded a 2nd. Maybe other bidders would've forced Buffalo to pay a 2nd. Terrible, terrible process. That's negotiating 101, and Hurney failed miserably.
Sometimes ... sure . I highly doubt other teams weren't willing to pay that price or more, but again ... we'll never know. The price wasn't so overwhelming as to not ask around.Sometimes the right move is taking the deal in front of you too.
According to a Panthers writer, Hurney orchestrated Olsen's deal and Benjamin's trade. I will go with what he says. The writer also said that Hurney's contract runs through June of 2018, so unless his contract is terminated before then, he will be there on draft day.Gonna disagree on the last part, and from what I read the framework, at least for the Olsen deal, was done by GMan. That's an unfair characterization. She has worked her way up through the organization and held many positions along the way. From everything I've read she seems very qualified at this point based on that experience to run the business operations of this organization. She isn't making personnel decisions. Although I would guess she would be involved to some degree in the GM issue.Former Top Cat promoted to COO.
I was just busting balls. I don't have a problem with her and she will not be in the position very long. That's an unfair characterization. Kind of a nice fu to Jerry. Hopefully she'll tell him to turn around and show her his ###.That's an unfair characterization. Peyton Manning putting an ownership group together wouldn't surprise me.So Diddy is putting together an ownership group. Still don't think he has NFL money. And I think he has already shot off his mouth a little too much. He can't just buy the team he has to be approved. And he is already courting controversy.
Read that Eddie DeBartolo is interested. So will a formerly suspended owner with a record be able to buy in?
Maybe Manning and Papa John will whip something up!Peyton Manning putting an ownership group together wouldn't surprise me.
If he did he'd be the front runner. But he comes with his own baggage around sexual impropriety. May not want to drag all that up again.Peyton Manning putting an ownership group together wouldn't surprise me.
Yes. I'd like to see some of the minority owners increase their holdings in the team. There's the Wordsworths, the biggest minority shareholders of the Panthers. Also local is James Goodnight (~$10B) who could buy the team alone. I just want them to keep the team in Charlotte. The Belks, Levines, and Bissels have each had billion + liquidity events in the last two years - add Bruton Smith or Ric Elias to the existing minority LP group and they could easily get it done, as I don't see any of those folks having much of a desire to be the public face of the ownership.
I actually know the Wordsworths and their son pretty well. Their sons wife and my wife are friends. I have been to games with them in their suite. They must certainly enjoy "owning" the panthers and all the perks that go with it but they 100% absolutely do not want to be the face of the franchise. These are down home country people that accumulated a fortune by impeccable timing and hard work. They are not cut out for the glamor of being an owner.Yes. You think so? I don't think so at all ...
To me, JR has always been kind of a jerk to me. I lost a lot of respect for him during the lockout with how callously he treated players as if he, as an NFL owner, wasn't making money hand over fist. I've thought he was the biggest problem in the organization for years ... thrilled he's selling.
Pretty much squarely where I'm at.I didn't know that. Interesting. Tell the Wordsworths that you will be the face of the franchise!I actually know the Wordsworths and their son pretty well. That said someone told me yesterday that if Jerry wants to sell 100% of the team that he could force them all to sell due to some stipulation in the ownership agreement.
Goodnight could easily buy the Panthers but he doesnt give two chits about sports. That could obviously change since this is the NFL but he is more or less a nerd that hit it rich.

So for Combs that means spending pretty much every penny he has to acquire the 30% and then have 250 million left to be in charge. Like I said he doesn't have NFL money. Niether do any of the people climbing on his bandwagon. This is a billionaire's club now.http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/12/20/full-100-percent-of-panthers-is-for-sale/
welp things just got interesting
People just dont quite get how much money a billion is. Another thing is that these guys have made crazy good choices their life and a lot of them may pass on the idea of owning a team. Maybe its too much work for too little payout. So for Combs that means spending pretty much every penny he has to acquire the 30% and then have 250 million left to be in charge. Felix Sabates has said his ownership group isn't looking for income they want equity growth. And they want to keep the team here.People just dont quite get how much money a billion is. and they want the city to build them a 1.5ish billion dollar stadium with a retractable roof. Its so stupid as BOA stadium is pretty damn nice. The in essence that potential group is already holding that over the citys headFelix Sabates has said his ownership group isn't looking for income they want equity growth. Completely ridiculousand they want the city to build them a 1.5ish billion dollar stadium with a retractable roof. Its so stupid as BOA stadium is pretty damn nice.
Then they can move. No money for a new stadium when we have been told the current stadium will be profitable for at least 15 years.and they want the city to build them a 1.5ish billion dollar stadium with a retractable roof. Naw...let's raise taxes so another billionaire can get some on the side. Then they can move. No money for a new stadium when we have been told the current stadium will be profitable for at least 15 years.
You know I'm not about that life.Naw...let's raise taxes so another billionaire can get some on the side.
TB is so banged up we should be able to pull it off without the late drama if we play how we have been.Really need to win this weekend. A loss puts us in a very bad situation as our tiebreakers don't look good and Atlanta will either be playing for a playoff berth or divine title. Dallas and Seattle are threats. Need Seattle to win this week and Minn to win so that Philly has something to play for v. Dallas in week 17.
http://www.wrestlinginc.com/wi/news/2017/1221/635193/vince-mcmahon-sells-portion-of-wwe-shares-to-fund-alpha/I googled his net worth last night and yeah the math isnt going to work out very well for him. I wonder if Balmer would be interested or even Vince McMahon (he is from Havelock, NC)
It sounds like he might be interested in reviving the XFL. Who knows. He is friends with Jerry Jones. On a side note, Vince is an ECU alumni.http://www.wrestlinginc.com/wi/news/2017/1221/635193/vince-mcmahon-sells-portion-of-wwe-shares-to-fund-alpha/
the timing of this is quite interesting, could be a coincidence but who knows. The NFL is going to want a significant amount of cash up front. Hmmmm
Listened on the radio so didn't see it but those guys were saying they werent sure. Still I'll take a little luck.Got lucky on that spot.
I dont it was that bad we had a ton of dropped passes. It's good to be in but if the offense plays like this we're one and done for sure.
When Bersin is your top wr that’s what you getI dont it was that bad we had a ton of dropped passes.
Good thing he is such a beast running the ball, cause he is a crappy passer.Incredible game. Cam is a warrior on the field.
Division games are always tough. The teams know each other so well, and fight and scrap to the bitter end.Not really surprised the Bucs played us so hard. Not sure why anyone is. It's always like this. We can suck all year and they can be rolling and we do the same thing to them. It's happened time and again. When these teams meet toss their records it's almost always close.
The defense needs to play better too. It's good to be in but if the offense plays like this we're one and done for sure.
