THE FBG Fashion Thread :style: (2 Viewers)

See, I didn't. But left to my own judgment, I COULD HAVE. I need serious help from you people.
Keep it simple. If you're on a budget and don't feel like hitting a sale, just go to your local Brooks Brothers or Dior store and get some classic, timeless threads. You're going to look like a gay black jack dealer in that top.
:homosaywhat?:
exactly...that's what it is
phewI was worried for a second there, fella.

;)

I went to Urban Outfitter, and it seemed less... urban?... than I'd imagined.

What's your budget Bob? I can find you at least 2 decent outfits for a $1000 or so. Should work for a weekend in Vegas.

UNIQLO just opened a store in San Francisco. Haven't checked it out yet, but how do they compare price/quality wise to H&M?For me H&M is hit and miss depending on what item. I usually end up buying some jackets and button ups from H&M, but I find their cotton garments (sweaters, cardigans, shirts, etc) too be really thin. Was wondeering what uniqlo had to offer.

Also bought some Levi's 511 skinny trousers (revolver and Kangaroo) for casual wear and I love the fit.

Uniqlo is heads and toes above H&M. H&M's quality is rubbish and their fit is poor. The type of clothes that will fall apart in a year. Target and Uniqlo are the two discount retailers that Major routinely shops. Great basics at both spots.

Nice guess I'm going to have to make a visit.Target, though? I have never really gone inside one since I usually just head to Wal*mart when I need a discount place, but chicks do love Target for some reason. Guess I need to head over. Since I've been single I've had to update my wardrobe and need some basics for fall. Does Target have their own store brand? Any specific brand I should look out for?

Merona.Their underwear, undershirts, socks are the only things I'd consider buying. Everything else appear to be geared toward mid-western body-types and sensibilities.

The Mossimo Athletic Fit V-Neck T-shirt is the best clothing buy since the fig leaf.

Agree with this. I have pretty much every color in the rainbow and are my summer staples. Can't go wrong with $10 a piece. To follow up thoughts on above H&M is pretty much garbage. I do have a winter coat that I got there a few years ago that has held up nicely, but it was also $200 which kind of defeats the purpose of H&M. Their more expensive stuff is decent, but their cheap stuff is terrible quality.

H&M to clothes is the equivalent of Ikea to furniture.

My wife calls H&M "single-use items." I don't own any.

I have a winter coat ($200) and a charcoal grey with thin white pinstripes blazer ($100) that are still part of my rotation. Don't even bother going in there to look anymore.

It's stylish but that's about it. A step up might be Zara.

Zara is definitely a step up, but they tailor the merchandise to the locale. I found that their clothes in Latin America and Europe are better than the US.

better how? selection-wise? build quality?the american stores reflect american buyers sensibilities and interests. overseas, it's not enough to be fashion forward or simply stylish.

I think we've had this conversation in here before. I used to use Zara as a go-to for basics and the occasional sportier thing- had a great run on winter coats from there over several years. It used to be that every time I walked into one here in NYC, I'd find what I was looking for and more. Good quality and stylish enough to be interesting without being goofy. The last few years, that has changed. I've found their US stock to be very meh in terms of style and fit- not justifying the slight uptick in price over other big-box boutique stores. OUt of habit, I still look, but I honestly haven't bought something from there in years. Walked into one in Paris over the summer and it was far more interesting... but #### the french.H&M is #### for quality and fit, but they constantly turn over new stuff so you never know what you'll find in there. And I hear Margiella is designing a collection for them... which I'd be all over if there's a men's line.

Classic always trumps trendy, in my opinion, and that jacket is a good example.
I completely agree on the classic > trendy, especially when it comes to outerwearI just think some of the details on that jacket are too flashy to be classic. The zipper pockets, the collar, the stud/medallion on the back of the neck, elbow patches, tapered fit, etc.

Uhhh, that jacket is trendy. Hence my comment. For winter coats, I actually think GQ did a good job with this articlehttp://www.gq.com/style/wear-it-now/200911/best-topcoats-winter-under-500-dollars#slide=5And being under $500 none will break the bank

My bad, misread your intent

Wifey just bought this one for me for the upcoming season. :moneybag:
I personally have moved away from military style, but that might be just me
If it didn't have the zip pockets it would be a whole lot better and likely more resilient to trends
Zippered pockets are trendy?
Sorry to break it to you JB but your wife came up with a whole bunch of fail in that purchase. Return it.

Merona is Targets private label and great for basics - quality material, good fit and cheap. The best thing about Target is their co-branding/collaborations with top designers. They recently produced a line with ODIN (best men's store in NYC) and had some great pieces for you cheap FBGs that frown at paying $500 for jeans.
