The Inauguration (2 Viewers)

This has been an interesting and long discussion but it's about to end, because tomorrow morning Trump is actually at work doing stuff. That's when it's REALLY going to get interesting.

Why didn't more Trump supporters go?

That's kind of sad.  You got to support your guy.

I think people generally avoid places where they know anarchists are looking to do physical harm to them.  So they stayed home and made it the most watched inauguration (when you count both TV and live streams on the internet).  And these people were right.  250+ people arrested for smashing windows, assaulting people, causing fires, destroying cars, etc.

Here is my overall opinion:

There is conflict between Trump and the media that has been going on. Both sides have contributed to the problem. Some elements of the media jumped at the chance to try and embarrass Trump with "low turnout". He still had a lot of people show up, it's not like it was 1000 people or something silly. This isn't a classy move by the media. However, none of that excuses the petulant behavior of Trump with his whining at the CIA and sending Spence out to lie. This is one of the major reasons why I thought Trump was such a poor choice for POTUS. He is such an easy target for people that want get under his skin.

The most frustrating thing for me with Trump is that I have thought for awhile we needed a POTUS that was outside of the traditional party system and someone that turned away from rhetoric for honesty. Trump fit that bill, but in all the wrong ways IMO. I see the Yen is trading up and the dollar is down right now as investors are seeking safer havens than the dollar. The Asian market channels seemed concerned about the protectionist talk. I just worry how he might lash out or lie when he faces an actual crisis.
I think you are right in that someone in the media posted the comparisons to embarrass Trump.  I don't know who started it, but it probably wasn't a big story, other than, "huh...Look at that."

And then, news got to Donald that someone, somewhere, said he wasn't the greatest.  They insulted what he holds near and dear, his popularity.  That cannot stand, so he and his team made a story out of it.  All of a sudden, it's a story, worthy of the Msm covering.

Alternate theory: team Trump deliberately spread mis-truth to see how the media would cover.  He now knows who his friends are.  We will know if this is what happened if news sources that did NOT focus on attendance get preferential treatment.

Man, you guys are slipping.  Just say attendance was low because Trump supporters were working because they have jobs, not sucking on the goverent teat.

Cheap and lazy and afraid of rioters (speaking for myself).

DC voted overwhelmingly Democratic.  It's only logical that fewer locals would attend after their candidate lost.

I don't know how widespread the coverage of the difference in size was. The thing is with Twitter and the size of today's media, it is unavoidable that everything will get reported and every famous person will have shots taken at them whenever there is an opening.

Funny how no Trump supporters were saying "we're staying home" until after the attendance figures started coming in.

Also, there were significant protests at both of George W. Bush's inaugurals, yet 400,000+ people didn't seem to be scared from attending.

Also...why are Trump supporters suddenly running scared? Aren't you guys the epitome of gun-toting internet tough guys? Go save the country from the big bad libtard protesters, you armchair crime deterers!

That was Friday's excuse. Today's excuse is "we were afraid of anarchists".

Nevermind the fact that Trump himself continues to contradict both of those explanations.

Comparison of crowds at 2009 and 2017 inaugurations from CNN (Fake News!!!).
This mean a lot to you?
I suppose it is posted in the wrong spot. To me it is interesting that the WH states (incorrectly) about the sizes of the crowds and how the difference is based upon the angle of the photograph. These are two shots from the same spot (I bet from the top of GW Monument.) and they show difference.

I don't like the WH telling lies.

CNN's own gigapixel shot shows more people.  CNN is fake news.

Spicer was right to frame the media as the liars they are.  A few more strikes by a few of these crappy organizations and this administration should just kick them out of future events.  No one benefits from CNN's propaganda.

You just keep on telling us how much you don't care about this, and that everyone else is obsessed with the crowd's size. Everyone but you, Donald and Sean.

I never said I don't care about this.  I think it was important to shine a light on organizations "filtering" news in such a way to undersell the event.  It says a lot about CNNs character that they think it's much more important to lie about these things than just report the news.  It's a likely reason they had some 2.4 million viewers to Fox's 8.4M viewers.  People should demand the truth from their media outlets.  CNN failed to cover the riots in DC, fed questions during the debates, ran the bogus Russia story, and now this.  At some point, enough is enough.  I won't lose any sleep when they lose their press credentials.

Cool story, Vlad.

Do you think Infowars is more credible than CNN?

Plenty of reason to take issue with CNN and their relationship with the D Party, but Trump made this a much bigger story on Saturday. CNN did not run a bogus Russia story however the way they sold the story was misleading.

However the Trump admin did a horrible job "shedding light" onto the issues with CNN by just lying through their teeth. I think the thing I definitely have in common with Trump supporters is that I'm sick of the ridiculous state of the current media/2 party state. Where I certainly differ from Trump supporters is that I see Trump not as the antidote, but the embodiment of all that is wrong with the state of affairs.

You really don't think CNN has any preference in partisan politics?
No. Some of their anchor people do, probably, but the network itself? No. They had more Trump surrogates during the campaign than any other network. Of the three networks they were easily the most pro-Trump, particularly early on. And then they hired Trump's campaign manager.

Fair points but early on means nothing. Early on many D supporters saw Trump as a joke and were praying for him to beat Cruz and Rubio. I do not think CNN did a good coverage the content of the leaks, the debate questions leaked, etc.

Can't wait to wake up tomorrow and see what the ol' Trumpo has cooked up for an encore. This guy has a talent for topping himself.

What I noticed is that Obama and Biden have these big plushy chairs but Bush and Clinton and Cheney are sitting on crappy folding chairs.

Also, no mater what you think of polls, there is no doubt BO entered the office with a much higher approval rating.
