The Return of the Desert Island Jukebox Draft - Drop in a quarter (1 Viewer)

Anyone have any good recent music book recommendations?
I read the Dylan Jones' oral biography of Bowie at the start of shutdown.  It was OK but the artist was an elusive subject even for people who were close to him.  Last summer during my Dylan binge, I read a book about him going electric at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival.  It was interesting because I knew nothing about the early 60s Folk music boom.

I have Cowboys and Indies: The Epic History of the Record Industry in my queue but haven't found the opportunity for it.

Mrs. Eephus says the Johnny Marr and John Doe memoirs are good reads but too many books, not enough time.

At some point, it's probably easier to just move Hov34 down the draft order and get this moving.
Sorry, been camping with little to no signal.  Skip me if I don't respond after 10 minuets for the rest of my life.

I got nothing for you when it comes to rock n' roll books. That's one genre that never did it for me. Something about reading about music makes me instantly want to listen to it. I can do long form pieces and journalism, just not books.

I think that's why I loved Meet Me in the Bathroom, it's more like a collection of short stories (about bands I love obviously).

I looked up to see if Mark Ronson was related to Mick Ronson. I don’t think so, but it turns out Mark’s step dad is Mick Jones, guitarist for Foreigner.
Mark Ronson's sister Samantha used to date Lindsay Lohan.  Mick Jones from The Clash could not be reached for comment.

Great pick! Was originally on my list of 1 hit wonders. He had some huge singles in the UK and a couple songs since in the US so moved it way down my board.
He had massive success as a producer too. I think he has 2 Record of the Years from the Grammys.

Very sorry for holding things up in round 1.  Here is my late pick:

1.07 Sade - Hang On To Your Love (1984)

I will very gladly take the B side as I would listen to her sing the phone book, and I'm actually quite fond of this song

B-Side: Cherry Pie (Live version - awesome!)

Also, do we put the B-Sides on our Spotify Mix?

I am not in the headspace to tackle this jukebox idea I originally had.  I think I am going to take advantage of Eephus' mulligan rule, throw the Janis pick back, and have a little more cheesy fun with my jukebox.

I'm in the headspace for mine, but I really botched the first pick of the draft considering having an opportunity is so heavenly.

:wall:

Optional.

I'll mention B-sides for my picks when applicable but will probably only put a few on my playlist that are consistent with the vibe.

ETA:  the Sade flip side fits perfectly

2.18 Having a Party b/w Bring It On Home to Me - Sam Cooke (1962)

Going with some more pre-Springsteen era songs to set the mood.  I love how Cooke doesn't rush the tempo of the A-side.  Everybody's getting loose at the party he's having but there aren't any clowns doing keg stands.

Both songs have kind a Boss vibe to them even though I don't think he's ever performed them live.  Maybe he was leaving them for his compatriot Southside Johnny who has done versions of both songs with Springsteen and Little Steven accompanying him.  The Asbury Jukes were a force of nature in concert.  They may get the spotlight later in the draft but the late 70s-early 80s are deep for my gimmick.
