Tiger Woods (1 Viewer)

Hardly a shock. There have been rumblings of pain meds for years. Hope he gets it sorted out if that's a legit rumor. He doesn't look like somebody who is in too deep, so chances are a relatively short turnaround. And who knows, maybe a renewed focus.

He's done man.  That back is toast.

Could be. But since I don't have a crystal ball and this guy made a career out of doing the improbable, I'll go ahead and wait to see. Not sure why people constantly feel the need to declare #### long before the gig is over. I guess that's the internet.

Well, I'm struggling from back issues on the course so I have some empathy for him in that regard.

People love to see the mighty fall. Sad story. He's still the best I've seen and it's not close. Hope he gets some peace. (Insert joke here)

Pain meds wouldn't surprise me. Neither would steroids.

There's the part where he's at dinner with the military guys who let him dress up and play army man with them, the check comes and Tiger just stares at it until one of the military guys says separate checks was   and sad.

He probably made their yearly salary sitting there while they ate.

Woods was a machine, amazing at golf but a weird, weird super flawed dude. I like watching golf and he made for great storylines and but never rooted for him and never found him likable in the least.

Because, in this case, the gig is clearly over.  Never mind "long" before it is over.

Vegas is giving even odds that he finishes in the top 20.  At any time this year.

Anyhoo, this is a good newer article: http://www.golfchannel.com/news/ryan-lavner/tigers-debut-riviera

What is the story with bets in here. Did they happen who owes / paid what?
I've got a Rack with Otis that Tiger doesn't break Jack's record.  Goes back to 2012 I think.  Even though there is no hope that Tiger gets to 19 (can't even bet on it anymore) I don't think I will collect unless Woods passes away.

Weak. Pay up.
Now?  That's ridiculous. It's a long shot but the guy is still playing golf and was looking great just a few months ago.

This is like whining that it's the start of the fourth quarter and your team is ahead by 20 but the other guy won't pay. Let's let the game finish.

Lots of dudes were paying SB bets in the third quarter this year. Oops.

I'll pay the bet when I lose the bet.

Looking great?  Really?

I have $500 with Binky that Tiger doesn't break Jack's record. There is no doubt I will win but premature for him to pay up. Now, if he announces a retirement hopefully we can agree it will be time to settle up.
I've wondered about this.  Guys retire and unretire from pro sports all the time, especially the greats/lunatics, a la Jordan.  If it were a buddy of mine I'd surely pay it on the thinking that I've likely lost, but if the guy comes back a man possessed in a few years and starts winning majors, I know said buddy would make good on it and return the winnings. But some random dude on the internet who'd gladly walk away with my thousand dollars and change his username?  That money is good as gone the minute I pay out.

So, do I pay upon a retirement announcement? If he's 60 most surely yes. But at 41?  I just don't know if that makes sense.

:cstu:  territory

It is well established that iReputation is valued at somewhere between $1400 and $2100.  So at $500, I think it is all good.

wat?

I believe TWs fall may be the swiftest and most tragic I can remember seeing.  We've seen athletes lose it because of age, injuries, etc, but being caught cheating by your wife?  Most self absorbed guys would shrug that off, bang the next hor, and win a bunch just to spite the ex.  It feels like Tiger just collapsed and just kept spiraling down.

It's more than a long shot. We are approaching lottery ticket territory.

Probably should wait til he's 85-90 just to be sure.

No ####### way. Anybody looking to get paid before Tiger is 50 was...ill-advised...for taking the bet. Tom Watson nearly won the British Open at 60.
Tiger would actually have to win 5, not nearly win 1. He just had to withdraw from his press conference

He has the back of a 70 year old linebacker, bad knees, the yips, wonlt even get into his real life issues.

I don't really care, not my bet. So I'll just shut up now.

Same here.  Without a 15 minute, or so, stretching regimen before the first tee, I'm asking for trouble in the form of back pain.  Sometimes it comes anyway.  I'm 52.  When I was Tiger's age I could still (if I'm late to join my group) just drive up and head to the first tee.

so you made a bet that basically you cant lose for another 20 years or so but could win a lot earlier.

Smart on your end

I don't agree with this.  The wife issue was in early 2009 and he won 6 tournaments that year.  No majors since 2008.  But he won 3 times in 2012 and 5 times in 2013 with 2 second and 17 top ten finishes for those two seasons.  It may have been around that time when he got into the weight lifting/Seal training stuff.  I think the bulking up did more to hurt his career than splitting with his wife.

But it wasn't as swift as dropping off the golfing map in 2009.

If he's hooked on pain killers he should get in touch with Kurt Angle.  He had a huge alcohol/pain killer addiction and came away from it clean and sober.

The pigeon emoticon was never meant for guys like Otis, fellas.  Show me one time Otis didn't make good on anything (outside of losing weight).

And I'd wait on conceding this bet too.  Sure, I'm holding onto hope like Dennis Reynolds holds on to his sanity but there's nothing wrong with hope and a prayer.

Yea, now that you laid it out, you're right.  I guess I forgot that he did well in the non-majors until recently.

I used it in reply to Otis saying he wouldn't pay up even if Tiger announced his retirement. I've needled Binky here and there about paying up but as I stated previously I think it is premature. However, if Tiger retires and he doesn't pay up I will be disappointed.

I agree.  If he retired but only needed one more major for Oats to win the bet I could see possibly hanging on to see if he stayed retired.  Comes out of retirement and has one epic run at Augusta or something.  But 5 more majors?  That is a hall of fame career.

Also, I've been here since April '03.  Just sayin.

I'm team Otis here.  His side is in bad shape, but it is by no means settled.  These long-term bets tend to be, yanno, longer term.  Don't make one if you're looking to get paid out in a couple years.
