Too Early for a Redraft Draft? (1 Viewer)

My Mavs are out of the playoffs two months early this year, the Rangers are being their typical bad self and the Stars crapped out early too which leaves a huge hole in my sports entertainment schedule. So,,,is it too early to start the next fantasy football season by drafting a redraft league this early? We typically do the draft the week before the season starts when most of the info is known. What is the upside and the downside to starting this early and possible solutions? I don't really want to do dynasty but I wouldn't mind something that started the fun sooner than August.

Everyone's in the same boat, so I don't see a big deal except for the looong wait between drafting & playing. I'd look hard at how you set up transactions for the preseason, though.

So you draft early, now what do you do until the season starts? You should spend you extra time researching your draft so you can Kick ### later. I would not be in a redraft league that drafts this early.

It seems to me that we have about 75% (probably a high %) of the info that is needed prior to a season beginning. We know 75% of the players (at least) that will be on teams around the league and for the most part, which teams they will play on. We don't know about trades, cuts and promotions that happen in training camp. So what,,,the unknown and unexpected just spices it up a bunch doesn't it? What do you do after the draft? Free agent pick ups and trades. I charge for free agent pick ups in my league as a big way to boost the payout pot so it would encourage early free agent activity. What about league software sites???Are any of them set up this early and would they have all of rookies and free agents loaded into their database yet? This might be the limiting factor. I typically stick with Yahoo but I don't know if they would be ready for anything this early.

at my old job several of us were going to set up a dynasty league where we would draft 1 round on the first Friday of each month between March and August (2 rounds the first year to build up the roster).

we thought it'd be a good way to keep everybody involved & paying attention throughout the year.

then a bunch of us quit working there so we never got around to it :(

i still think it's a good idea if you have a group of owners committed to the idea of monitoring whats going on throughout the year

seems about the best league hosting solution available. CBS and NFL.com seem stuck in the stone ages, RTsports didnt seem that great for being pricier than MFL.

we've used yahoo past 3 years also, but yahoo! premium isnt even available to preview their features let alone set up the site, and we wanted to get an early start so... MFL it is.

its pretty customizable and free to try

that is an excellent idea to cure the FF blues (from May-July) . . .

Join a dynasty league anyway, you'll love it. We're doing our rookie draft right now. If you join a new one, you would probably do a huge 40+round draft that would probably last all summer. You could just abandon the team after the season, but by then you'll be hooked on the dynasty format. Then all you have to do is focus on rookies for the yearly drafts after that, manage your salary cap and contracts, bid on UFAs, etc.
