US Men's National Team (27 Viewers)

Not actually sure that would be a good thing. He's certainly not getting playing time ahead of Theo Hernandez on the left side, so he'd need to play on the right (which is obviously just fine)...and I'm not sure how tough the competition is there. He might just be bench depth if he goes to Milan.
Dest couldn't find any minutes at RB last year, so I have trouble seeing Scally being much different. Then again, with Pulisic and Musah playing so well, maybe Pioli will be more open to starting other Americans now?
Unlikely unless Scally is a much better defender AND puts in mad effort on the training ground.

From Men in Blazers

Eight matchweeks into his Serie A journey, @FabrizioRomano gives an inside look at how the USMNT midfielder is getting along at AC Milan...

❝The beginning of the season for Yunus Musah was not that easy. Adapting to, obviously, a new city and a new life, new football and a new league in Serie A. Now it is going very well. I can mention that Milan, and the director Giorgio Furlani especially, are very happy with Yunus Musah. He's doing very well in terms of how he's adapting to his new life, but also on the pitch. He was very good a couple of days ago against Genoa, and he's (been) one of the best players on the pitch for Milan in the last 3-4 games, and so, this is really changing. Milan were 100 percent convinced of the investment that they made to sign Yunus Musah from Valencia, but as we said, at the beginning of the season it's never that easy to adapt to something new. Now for Musah, it's going very well, and also the player is very happy here in Milan where we are based, so it's a big opportunity for him. But Milan are very, very happy with American midfielder Yunus Musah."

Dest hasnt looked to me like he is playing a wing back role... more of a traditional wide MF or wing, without a lot of defensive responsibilities. It suits him.
I agree, but I think that's because PSV is almost always attacking in their league games. He looked incredibly dangerous in the first half of their game this past weekend (I didn't watch the second half), but I don't think he had to defend even once during the half.

Yes, I think you nailed it. His team is almost always on the front foot so his natural attacking abilities are much easier to see in this type of environment.

I don't know what caused him to become such a leper at Milan, to the point he was not even allowed to train with the main team, but this move could not be going better so far for him.

Floppo news rumor feed saying Jamaica trying to lure Mason Greenwood to the reggaeboyz. They've been assembling a pretty solid lot of england almosts.

Was just texting with one of my friends in Germany and we realized the US-Germany game kicks off at the same time as New Zealand v Ireland in the rugby world cup. Really no point in trying to flip back and forth with these two sports and I think its an easy decision which game is more interesting. Just really bad timing for two events on different continents to be starting at the exact same time.

You know, you can have 2 TVs on at the same time...

Yes... look at you and your 2 tvs.

6 years ago today, in Couva... 'wet and bumpy'

May it never happen again, especially with the 32-team format going forward.
I think you mean 48 team format.

Knowing FIFA, they will probably expand it to 64 teams before too long, especially with them happy to have games stretched across countries and even continents.

Norwich City announce they have signed Josh Sargent to a contract extension through 2028.
Any idea when he will be back on the field?
Have not heard
Last I saw ... In the new year. But that was weeks ago.
Such a shame.

He had his best year as a pro last year, and then was off to a fantastic start this year. This combo could have propelled his career forward into a bigger league but now he has to start over again.

Luck/timing is such a huge part of these guys lives in regards to their health. Read a story about Hazard yesterday, who apparently just retired. Just fell off a cliff after getting to RM and getting hurt..and then hitting COVID...and then more injuries. And of course Obie..and countless others.

Just googled... Nothing new other than the Xmas/new year time I said earlier.

Did find this though...

"The funny thing is that everyone thinks it happened when the keeper landed on me and that was when I got hurt. But it was actually when I blocked the ball and I landed on it weird," Sargent told the Scuffed podcast.

"I think I had so much adrenaline going and I saw the ball going towards the goal that my instinct was to go and tap it in.

"When I landed again I had no power to put any weight on it and that's why I just collapsed after. It was hard to be happy about the goal and I could feel that it was not going to be a good injury.

"I even told him (Lee Nicholls) after because he was a bit worried saying 'did I do it?' but it wasn't his fault. I promise.

"It was a freak thing that happened in the game. I landed on my ankle wrong, but I'm not too sure on the specifics yet. It's a bit swollen and we have to wait for the swelling to go down before we can really assess it and figure out exactly what is going on."

There have been multiple big offers already declined for Caleb Wiley. A Bundesliga club came to watch him vs Philadelphia Union (Oct 4th). Wiley could have a pushed for a move but he wants to win in Atlanta. He wants to go to the right club.

The wife scheduled my Covid booster shot at 3:30pm tomorrow. Bad wifey!

:sadbanana:

I am really looking forward to the game even if I have to record and watch later. This will be a big test for the US. Massively talented opponent looking to find their way again for a new coach should provide the US an extremely hard test.

One small item I will be watching for is possession. In past generations, we would commonly cede ~70% possession to the top teams and play compact soccer and try to catch them on a counter. I hope to see much closer to a 50-50 type game in possession.

With Tillman out, I expect Reyna will get a 30 minute run in at least one of the games, even if they are using extreme precaution

Berhalter on Gio Reyna: "We're moving forward... It's about the future."

- He says he's looked very sharp in training.
- Still figuring out how to manage his minutes these games.
- Wants to send him back to BVB in great form
- He won't say what position he will play.

Fun bit of trivia from Men in Blazers. The game tomorrow will be the first time GGG will be facing Germany (as player or coach) since he was robbed of the PK that could have seen the US into the semi finals in 2002.

They went on to say that Claudio would have had the assist to GGG if that hand was not there................

Not sure if any one from here is going but this seems less than ideal

FYI, USMNT fans: If you are in Hartford for the Germany game, plan to arrive early. (Like, *really* early.)Hartford Marathon is tomorrow, streets closed, “extreme” traffic expected…
I saw the US play T&T there in WCQ whichever cycle Eddie Johnson was leading the line up top.

we missed most of the 1st half because of traffic getting into the parking lot. no marathon. it's going to be a disaster.

and I genuinely considered going. tickets were $120 a piece for worst seat in the house... over a month ago. between that and crazy kids weekends, it didn't make any sense.

still regretting not doing it. :(

I wish I was not a cheap ******* because I would have enjoyed going to this game as well. But I just can't justify the ridiculous ticket prices for a friendly

Bad News: Noel Buck got into the game for England's U19 team in an official UEFA event, which preliminary cap-ties him to England

Good News: Rumors are swirling that 2004 Winger Luca Koleosho has submitted his one-time switch to the US

I would take this trade in a second! That would be a wonderful get.

And the one time switch locks him into the US forever I think even if he is under 21, coupled with Buck unlikely to crack a full England lineup could see him switch back in a few years.

I just saw the new roster for the US U15's and Cavan is not on it....

I wonder if they are going to have him play up 2 tiers to the U17"s..? That seems crazy but I can't figure out why he is not on the roster unless maybe he is hurt.

While GGG's wording in the press conference was a little unclear, there is a lot of speculation that Gio is going to start today (probably go 45 minutes).

If he does start in the midfield, I would guess at a line up like this... (I could make agreement that this may be one of the highest skilled lineups the US has ever fielded...just from a technical aspect only)

......................................................

.................................Turner

...Dest............Richards.........Ream..............Scally

.....................Weston.............Musah

...................................Gio

Weah......................Balogun....................Pulisic
