What do they mean by top 10 losses? Last night was a disappointment but wasn't the end of the world. Not a chance in hell I'd say it was a more important loss than that smattering of World Cup losses, blowing it in the 09 Confed Cup final, etc.NewlyRetired said:

Hijacking a bit, but I've watched a few NYRBs games since Miazga came back. Kid is already one of the best CBs in MLS and he just turned 20. He reads the game beautifully, particularly at stepping up and stopping attacks before they build. Now, obviously VIckers is 3 years younger still, so the thought of him developing into something REALLY special at 20 is enticing. But I think both of these kids are going to get a ton of caps.

Yeah, I'd like to see them partner for the U23 Olympic qualifiers (and the Olympics themselves). That could be the stepping stone to potentially securing back-up roles in 2018, and starring roles in 2022Hijacking a bit, but I've watched a few NYRBs games since Miazga came back. Howard has a beef with Freidel going back to his transfer to United. And hes not wrong about Lalas.
I dont know the whole story but there was a lot of hate toward Howard for his timing on his wanting to come back statement. A lot of people want to blame him for Guzan's bad performance vs Panama. Sad thing is he always had said he was coming back and would be fighting for his spot, if JK would allow him to.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Only downside in that is the pundits all wondering if you're doing that in response to the miscues (or perceived miscues) of Guzan against Jamaica.

Regarding that list of top 10 losses. The one I thought would be on there was Poland in the final game of the 2002 group stage. We had upset top seeded Portugal and tied with South Korea (host nation) and needed a win to win the group and a tie to clinch a spot in the knockout stage. I remember the hype being really high as Poland was the worst team in the group and had lost their first two games in blowouts.
And then we gave up something like 3 goals in the first 8 minutes. And Portugal and SK were tied 0-0 for forever and all they had to do was play for a tie to eliminate us on goal differential. SK saved our butts by scoring late to eliminate Portugal. If that hadn't happened, I'm sure the USA-Poland game would have ranked #1 on the list.

I was there for that one... el suck. 95-5 is about right for that one too. I thought we lucked out sitting in front of a family (Mexican) instead of a bunch of drunk young guys. dad and other adult male were drunk from the opening kickoff, screaming/swearing the entire game and definitely trying to #### with the two gringos in front of them. we bailed after 4-0, to a volley of very specific swearing (my gb speaks spanish fluently).

I actually think that it's about like a 13 seed beating a 4 seed. If you figure that at least one 12 seed usually wins a game every tourney, this would be a bit more uncommon than that. But not so uncommon as to be unheard of. Its just important to remember that in world football, the difference between the 70th best team in the world and the 20th best team in the world is way, way less than the difference between the 5th best team in the world and the 20th best team in the world. Once you get away from the very best teams, you're in the realm where the better team would win 6 or 7 out 10 times (with a draw or two sprinkled in).

losing at home is the bigger issue. I feel like Jamaica away is usually a tough game, without much separating the teams. at home... usually not as much separating the teams as this game, that the US did a good job controlling. outside of the goals.
that call on guzan... still has me saying wtf. I notice that kind of play a lot in various games- but when the GK is clearly outside of the box with his entire body (irrelevant to hand ball or not, but visually much more obvious). I've never seen this called.

I can't get exorcised over a call that's correct by the letter of the law. It would be one thing if the ref ignored the same violation by the Jamaican keeper, but if its called consistently by that crew, then it's on Guzan.

again- never seen this call made... regardless of whether it was the correct call or not.
unrelated, the same crew had no problem letting the Jam GK hold the ball for up to 15 seconds

The 16-year-old is training with the Red Devils and will be hoping to impress enough to earn himself a contract with Louis van Gaal’s side.
