US Men's National Team (14 Viewers)

94 hours in-between matches doesn't require rotation IMO. Injury, suspension, form and tactics will mean some of them sit, but I hope we run our best XI out in every game.

Call me PEFOK

@Theosonsmith

Siebatcheu ? Pefok ? My name is Theoson-Jordan Siebatcheu ! My friends call me Jordy and my best friend is my mum that’s why I play with PEFOK ( or Jordan because she gave me this name and I couldn’t put PEFOK ). It’s easier to say PEFOK than Siebatcheu so now it’s up to you
His momma called him Pefok, Imma call him Pefok.

to be clear, his mom did not call him Pefok. His mom's last name is Pefok and he uses it to honor her.

I honestly can't remember a single time that GGG started the same 11 in back to back games. It must have happened at least once but I can't find an example after an hour of searching through line ups. Our non stop injuries certainly did not help things.

For sure this. He might not let everyone go 90 back to back, but I really hope he puts a first-choice lineup out there for each game and doesn't overthink this. Four days is a ton of time to recover. Not saying we shouldn't use our depth, just that these guys can handle three games in 11 days.

So wait...Sargent is a good holdup guy now? AND good in the air?

Talk about a constructive summer... Although I guess he couldn't have gotten much worse than he was last year at those things.

I mean- I've always been a fan of his. But his strengths are spacial and soccer awareness, especially on the defensive side of the ball (but good understanding of combinations), decent foot skills, and willingness to put in a hard and often unglamorous shift doing the little things a typical 9 won't. But hold up play and aerial ability? Come on now.

The above bold is not his strong suit I fear.

And with literally nothing to do but think between Sept and the start of the WC, I am not feeling great that his decisions will be good. We talked many times over the past couple of years that when he has too much time to think, he does dumb stuff but when he is forced to think on the fly, he seems to make more solid decisions.

He played on the wing for almost an entire year. Being good in the air and hold up play are rarely used skills when out wide.

Look at his goal the other day, that was a fantastic header in traffic which is what you love to see out of a striker.

And note when we talk about things like specific skill sets, they are in relation to our other striker choices, not being compared to world class strikers. We are just trying to figure out who would be best in our current set up of players. None really stand out but all offer slightly different skills sets in comparison to the other striker hopefuls.

When he played up top, he couldn't win a ball in the air and couldnt get to the balls played into his feet. I'm not talking just about his play in wider positions. As I said, I like the kid- but not for his ability in either of those two realms which to me are amongst his weakness...occasional headed goal not withstanding .

And I still like a lot of what Ive seen from Haji, who actually does have some of that hold up play in him, along with good combination play and fox in the box goal scoring with all body parts. It's been years, but I like that he came up with our core players in terms of having a connection. He's way behind Sarge and Jesus defensively though.

Haji is clearly loved by his teammates too which does not hurt although this team does not suffer from any inner friction. Just seems like a bunch of good guys mostly who can put up with Gio being a Diva.

One of the reasons I left Haji off the list was that I think he left a really bad impression on GGG. I did not think he was terrible but GGG's comments were less than enthusiastic IMO, and GGG is not the type to bash every player he talks about. I would be very suprised if he gets called into the Sept friendlies given that.

Oh..wow...the guy I figured was going to be a game changer at this WC...came off the bench today for his new club, Olimpiacos.

Konrad back on the scene? Hope he turns things around this season...his positives are really nice (inspite of his negatives...defense *cough cough*

Herc has made his pick for the 7 midfielders he thinks will get on the plane

1) Weston
2) Tyler
3) Yunus
4) Luca
5) Acosta
6) Tillman
7) Mihailovic

6 and 7 will become clearer if they both get called up for the Sept friendlies.

Are they though? I feel far too much of our opinion of Konrad is based on about 2 weeks of sauce he showed at the very beginning of his Marseille stint. And even then, it was more potential than production. Considering that Gregg seems to think KDL crapped the bed in the first qualifying window, I think he'd have to genuinely light it up in Greece to even sniff the roster. And I've seen nothing from him to convince me that's likely.

I could also see where a front six of Pulisic, Aaronson, Jesus, Flavor of the Day, Arriola, Weah might mean Reyna is listed as a mid.

6-8-8-3 is still only 25 though. I was thinking that he might take a midfield spot from one of those 7, but I guess there's still room for everyone.

I've always questioned his judgment. He's got *de la Fuente* put instead puts "Konrad" on the back of his shirt?

Yes. They are. And more than 2 weeks of sata. Everything on the offensive side for Barca, US and Marseilles I've seen from him showed amazing promise at the elite, CP, Gio, Dest levels of skill. 2 years ago, I fully expected him to be in the mix in in Qatar. Promise though...from a young (at that point) player who I assumed would be playing, learning and improving the other weaker aspects of his game- decision making (typical young guy stuff) and defensive awareness. But the wheels fell off in France and reports of his dgaf attitude didn't help.

I don't expect him to make the plane, but I'd love for him to redirect his trajectory into that game changer off the bench guy I thought he'd be. And as pointed out above- big issue for him is competition.

Is Erik Williamson still alive and kicking? I liked his game quite a bit, but lost track of him.
Thought I heard he was back playing again...Andy?

yes he is back playing. He came back last season. This year he is a mix of a sub and starter (about 50/50). I have not heard anything good or bad, which likely means he is no where near USMNT level at this time. In general, we want our MLS players to not only be every game starters but also shining a bit.

LDT on the bench for Celt’s today.
Game is on ESPN+ at 2 EST.

I love his tidiness and vision and want to see how he does against better competition so hoping he gets some 2nd half minutes

Interesting article in the Athletic about Malik Tillman and the structure of his loan deal between Rangers and Bayern Munich. From the article:

Rangers’ year-long agreement includes an exclusive option to sign the now 20-year-old permanently at an agreed fee, but The Athletic is informed Bayern retain a buy-back option on top of that, which would allow them to re-sign the two-cap USA midfielder at a higher price than they sell him for.

Jesus Dest, the coach can't be any clearer. GTFO!!!!!

@BrianSciaretta

Xavi is ice cold right now towards Dest. “Seeing the trajectory of [Alejandro] Balde we have the position of left-back well covered; at right-back we have Sergi and Dest, but Dest knows the situation of the club and my stance towards him.”
