US Men's National Team (7 Viewers)

McGlynn just announced he has suffered an injury and will be out rest of season and many weeks after. Interestingly, he specifically said he was disappointed he could not join the US this October camp which makes it sound like he was originally called up.

Bogert says he was on the initial roster and then had to drop out. Hopefully it was instead of Aaronson as I am unsure who else on the list he should have replaced, unless this is that specialty only role.

Guess he called 26. No Adams, which I guess makes sense if he really wants to give Morris and Tessman a real second look. No Johnny. Still no Scally, which puzzles me as I think he's a real solution in a 3-man back line. Most costly golf cart donut ever.

Wright and Big Pat in. No Sargent. At this point, I'm not sure we can really complain. They're better fits for what Poch wants to do.

Dest and Pepi's injuries leave them out I guess.

If you're going to play 3 CDs (which it certainly looks like with the amount of CDs called in) with wingbacks, do you really need Scally (if Dest is healthy) especially if Weah can slot in there? One of the big things this roster shows is he's still not satisfied with his CMs.
If we play a 3-5-2, Scally is in competition with guys like McKenzie, CCv, and Miles. My understanding is that he has played RCB in a back three for Gladbach with some regularity. If we play a 4-3-3, he's a swing FB who can play on either side in a more defensive role. I don't think he's really in competition as a wing back, IMO. But he's probably the second best defending FB in the pool (behind Jedi).

I'm highly influenced by not trusting McKenzie, CCV, or Miles much at all. I feel I've seen them a lot with the Nats, and it hasn't been good for any of them in a very long time.

If this is supposed to be the main team then it makes no sense to not call up Adams.

Guess I need to read up!

Poch when asked about the absence of Scally and Musah. Kind of savage.

Uh...wot.

Theyre not messi or maradonna. Ok. Thats Pochs sum total understanding of these guys?

Why so reticent in saying...i didnt take them because of x, y and z. He sure as **** should be telling them that. And as a national coach, yes- he has a responsibility to tell the press and public too why these two guys arent there relative to the guys that are. Its not being disrepctful to the guys that he called to explain why theyre there and not others. Im hoping this is a problem with english thing.

It is not a problem with the English. I watched the whole press conference.

He made it crystal clear that a) when we call a player up, we don’t tell him why and b) when we don’t call a player up we don’t tell them why

It makes no sense to me but it appears they have a hard policy.

Also his answer here jives with an earlier answer where he caught himself after saying something to the effect that no one has a roster slot spot on the team locked up and then later said something to the effect of “ok I lied, Christian does”. In effect, he is saying Pulisic is at the Maradona level for US players. I don’t think he sees anyone else who should be a lock. Maybe if pressed he would admit Richard’s is.

Note that Tyler Adams and wife are expecting a new baby in the next couple of days.

I don't hate the roster as much as I expected. The blue balls continue on ever seeing Dest and Jedi together under Poch.
Maybe that’s the reason for Adams then which makes some sense.
Poch confirmed this is the reason in the press conference. Who replaced Adams and McGlynn we can only guess.

It does not make sense, but I also love it at this point. It just feels completely out of step with how I imagine someone who has built a decades long career in top football management would behave. But it's also funny to watch anyone hit zero Kelvin on the ****s Given scale.

I get from a club coach level...hey, its my team and ill do what i want. But its not club- he has to make selections for the overall roster. Once hes done that...Im kool and the gang with his starting 11 being completely undeniably and inexplicably his.

I would be interested in seeing this group get 45 minutes together in one of the games this break

………………………………....Turner

…………….McKenzie……..Richards…………..Ream

Weah………………Tillman…………Tessman……………..Jedi

……….Zendejas…………….Balogun…………………Pulisic

Fwiw, Mak and Richards are both playing RCB for club (i wanted one of them to go left to move Ream central so hes not exposed by pace on the flank)

Fwiw2, Swag played an 8 role yesterday. Despite missing all the opportunities that came to him- he was there to miss a bunch of opportunities.

Pretty even match so far between US and France. 0-0 at the 31st mark. US with best chance of game. I don't think France even has a shot yet.

The standings of Group C are very interesting

Morocco 2-0-0 6 points
Mexico 0-2-0 2 points
Brazil 0-1-1 1 point
Spain 0-1-1 1 point

Spain and Brazil have to play each other in the last game. High chance that one of them will not advance.

U20...
US v France at 4pm on FS2
Weird seeing them play one of the worst teams in the tournament and then directly playing one of the best in the next game. The difference is amazing after on a few minutes of watching

I’m guessing France probably has an entire team of U-20 players not on this team because they have champions league games with their clubs this week.

Yes, their depth is amazing. Not only are they missing a bunch of top players on the initial roster, some of the ones that came were called back while the team was already in Chile (similar to Kochen for the US).

hmmmm, wonder what the personal reason is....timing wise it makes sense at his age though. If he has a great WC, he could make a ton of money, especially if he comes on a free transfer.

There are several MLS clubs who are continuing to call Weston McKennie, and McKennie is definitely open to a possible return to the United States, but also for a personal reason. So we’ll see if this can materialize, but there is a real possibility that McKennie could eventually leave Europe, starting next season. McKennie’s contract with Juventus expires in June 2026.

Even from a club level, I think you kind of need to give players some input on how to get back into good graces. Managers who just give up on guys and have them practice separate from the team suck, IMO. I do think communication with players matters. That doesn't mean managers aren't in charge. It just means that managers keep the door open for players to improve.

But I also understand that it is an insult to the guys he trusts to ask him about it. We can disagree over whether Roldan is better than Musah right now. But it's clear the Poch trusts him more. And I can understand that. I don't know how he sees Scally. But he obviously trusts the CBs he called up more for the 3 man back line. And I certainly don't think it's crazy to trust Freeman and Arfsden more as wingbacks. That's what they play and they've shown promise in those roles.

I don't think we talked about it but the Fire cleared the final hurdle for a new stadium in Chicago. They some how beat out the White Sox who wanted the same location. Ground breaking will be next year. Weston in a hard hat could be :lmao:

Fwiw, im talking about the coach giving that info to the press and public for a national team. If a club coach is not talking to his players...yeesh. but at club level, the coach is handling starting 11...entirely his domain. He cant call in whomever he wants from around the world and have his pick. So overall player selection for the roster is out of his control. For country, he has the control and damn skippy he should be sharing with the public and press...or at least not be so offended when asked.

Looking forward to seeing the highlights. Stats favored the US throughout.
US played a strong game throughout. I can’t say that it should have been a 3 goal win but 2 was very fair.

Best portion of the game for me was right after the US scored when you had to figure France was going to go for the equalizer but the US would not let them settle the ball, swarming them and then scored a nice goal to seal it. 3rd goal came after France all but quit.

I am 99.99% sure the US has advanced. There is one crazy scenario where the US could end up in 3rd (really unlikely given they have a +11gd. ) but with some 3rd place teams advancing, 6 points has to be enough.

Gozo was the big difference. Scored on first, assisted the second, and hit the crossbar in which the rebound was the 3rd goal.

Note that Gozo is fresh off a very likely goal of the year candidate in MLS.
